I bought this to replace a Venus Laowa 7.5mm because I just couldn't get sharp photos from it. The problem was no doubt my eyesight, but the Panasonic has auto-focus and that resolves the problem. I find the slightly reduced angle of view to be acceptable and the Panasonic is a slightly faster lens. When I use it, the focus ring has a very smooth action. I don't mind too much that the body is plastic - that makes the lens a bit lighter. Another point is that it is dust, splash, and freeze-resistant. All said, I am glad I moved up to the Panasonic.

This lens is the best wide lens I've ever used for the m4/3 system. It renders well and doesn't distort. In the short time I've had it, it's quickly become a favorite. The one thing I would change would be to have it made of metal. As it is, this lens is high quality and a really great addition to anyone's camera setup.

Although it is pricey, it is worth every penny. Extraordinary wide angle lens for micro 4/3 users. Light, sharp, fast, weather resistant and well made. Pairs well with my Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III body. Although it has a polycarbonate body it feels right and this type of lens construction allows for the light weight. Small and light is the hallmark of why most people use micro 4/3 and this lens is a must have for many people using the system.

Panasonic needs to put together a G100 bundle with this lens to save their credibility on that thing's marketing. Give it 30 minute 4K, too. The 12-32 that came on it is too zoomed and slow - especially when you turn on the electronic stab'. 9mm is more like it, and at a vlogging length it gives you a decent amount of Bokeh. Probably just right for giving background context. That being said, f/1.7 really isn't that impressive for Bokeh when you're talking Micro Four Thirds. You're getting f/3.4 Full Frame equivalent. I honestly couldn't tell a difference compared to my 12-35mm f/2.8 unless I stuck the 9mm right up to my face, and that presents the viewer with a fatter-than-real-life version of you. As for focus distance and lack of fish-eye effect, this lens is good. Corners are sharp too. I give this 3 stars because it's a single focal length yet costs close to what other zoom lenses with OIS do. And it's a "plastic fantastic". C'mon, man. Bring that price down 20% and I'll come back. For now, however, I'm going to be returning it.

Especially since the other reviewer complained about this lens and it really had nothing to do with the lens. This lens itself is golden. If you are an MFT fan like I am, even though I own every other system except for Nikon, then you are familiar with the quality of the system and the glass. This is just the absolute best landscape and/or vlogging lens. Optics and size and weight are a 10/10. Do yourself a favor and get this lens.
