It’s Mario in a different format, which is usually pretty fun to try. I never got to play the GameCube version so I was looking forward to this one.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door on Nintendo Switch brings one of the most beloved entries in the series back to life with modern polish and the same charm that made the original a classic. It is a faithful remake that respects the source material while making it more enjoyable for new players. What Stands Out - Beautiful updated visuals that keep the paper aesthetic but add sharper detail and smoother animation - Classic turn based combat that still feels unique thanks to timed button presses and stylish moves - Strong writing with humor, personality, and memorable characters throughout the entire adventure - Quality of life improvements that make exploration and backtracking smoother than the original - Runs well on the Switch, whether docked or handheld Gameplay Experience The game holds up remarkably well. The pacing, story beats, and puzzle design feel just as engaging today as they did years ago. The Switch version enhances the presentation without changing what fans loved. Battles remain strategic and fun, and the partner abilities add variety to both combat and exploration. The soundtrack has also been refreshed with higher quality arrangements. What Could Be Improved - Some areas still involve backtracking, which may feel slow for players used to modern RPG conveniences - Combat can feel repetitive for those who prefer faster paced systems - No major new content, so returning players are getting a polished remake rather than a reimagining Final Thoughts This remake delivers exactly what it should: a modern, polished version of one of the best Paper Mario games ever made. It preserves the charm, humor, and creativity of the original while giving it the visual upgrade it deserves. Whether you are revisiting it or experiencing it for the first time, this is an easy recommendation for RPG fans and Nintendo players.

This remake on the Switch has been such a nostalgic joy, and it honestly feels like seeing an old friend in high definition. The core of what made the original so fun all the witty, laugh-out-loud writing and that addictive, audience-fueled battle system—is perfectly preserved. I never felt like it was just grinding. And the visual overhaul is breathtaking IMHO. Every environment now has this beautiful, glossy papercraft sheen l, dynamic lighting, and reflections that make the world feel more tactile. Beyond the looks, the quality-of-life enhancements are awesome. Like the new Warp Pipe room and shortcuts significantly cut down on the backtracking that used to feel a bit tedious. I also like the quick-access partner wheel. I think with all the reboots and remakes it is rare for one to capture the exact magic of a 20+ year old masterpiece and still make it feel like a more modern and essential experience, but this version absolutely nails it.

This game was my childhood, originally on the GameCube. It is my absolute favorite Paper Mario game of all time, from mechanics to storytelling. I knew going into it that not much would be changed and I was simply excited to play it once again. But boy was I wrong. To simple backtracking and quality of life changes to the GORGEOUS soundtrack and visuals. There is a complete new breath of life in this game and it is easily the best looking and playing Paper Mario game of all time, despite the 30 fps frame cap. Sure it would feel smoother at 60, but a game like this simply does not need to be that high and I didn't even notice the difference once throughout my entire playthrough. This game is a must buy for all RPG enjoyers, you will not be disappointed.

**Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door** on the Nintendo Switch is a highly anticipated and mostly successful remake of the GameCube classic. The remaster has generated a lot of excitement, and for good reason — it preserves the magic of the original while improving on key aspects. ### Visuals and Audio The game’s visuals have received a major upgrade, with the bright, colorful art style looking even more vibrant on the Switch. The 2D/3D hybrid world remains charming, and areas like Hooktail Castle and Rogueport benefit from enhanced textures and lighting. The soundtrack is another highlight, offering a remixed version of the original tunes, though you can also switch back to the GameCube-era music for that nostalgic feel. ### Gameplay and Combat The core turn-based combat remains mostly unchanged, with the signature "action commands" that require precise button presses to maximize damage. This system keeps battles engaging, with an emphasis on timing and strategy. The addition of a partner wheel makes switching between your companions easier and faster, which improves the flow of battles. While the combat is solid, some players may find that the earlier chapters feel repetitive, with battles that drag on a bit. The exploration aspect has been improved with a more streamlined fast-travel system and less backtracking, though some may still find the puzzle-solving and platforming segments challenging. ### Story and Characters The story is one of the standout features of *The Thousand-Year Door*, with its witty writing and memorable characters. Mario is joined by a colorful cast of partners, each with their own unique abilities and personalities. The game’s humor is timeless, and the dialogue remains charming and clever throughout. The relationship between Mario, Princess Peach, and even Bowser adds layers to the narrative, giving it more depth than you'd expect from a typical Mario adventure. One notable change in the Switch version is a more faithful localization to the original Japanese script, which addresses some minor discrepancies from the GameCube version, especially in how characters like Vivian are portrayed. ### Final Verdict *Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door* on Switch is a fantastic remaster that successfully blends nostalgia with modern improvements. The game still stands as one of the best RPGs on the GameCube, and its remake on the Switch makes it accessible to a whole new generation of players. While some might find the early chapters a bit repetitive or the puzzles frustrating, the overall experience is enjoyable, with a perfect mix of humor, strategy, and heart. It's an excellent addition to any RPG fan's library.

This is my favorite game of all time. To see it beautifully remade like this was not only a treat, but also an affirmation as to why so many loved this game in the first place. The story is amazing, the visual upgrade is wonderful, and the soundtrack has both the original and the remixes for the modern audience. The only knocks I can give it is that the frame rate is locked to 30FPS as opposed to the original's 60FPS. That is still a minor complaint as the frame rate is stable and does not hamper the game experience. Please buy this game if you like Mario or RPGs at all!

Don’t know why there aren’t more people buying this game. It’s a really great game. The story is great, the remaster is great, the characters are great and the humor is great. This is the best Mario RPG in my opinion. Way better than Super Paper Mario and Origami King. I would highly recommend this game if you’ve never played it. Supposedly, a switch 2 update is on the way. So if you haven’t picked it up it’s definitely worth a play through. The only negative I can give this game is that you can’t speed through dialogue. Other than that, it’s a quality game.
