Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was one of my favorite games on the GameCube, and this remake completely does it justice. The updated visuals are gorgeous—colorful, crisp, and full of charm—while still keeping the original paper aesthetic intact. The orchestrated soundtrack adds so much depth to the atmosphere and really enhances the nostalgia. Gameplay-wise, it’s just as fun as I remember. The turn-based combat with timed button presses makes battles more engaging than most RPGs, and the partner system adds variety and strategy. The writing is still laugh-out-loud funny, with quirky characters and witty dialogue that make the story unforgettable. I also appreciate the quality-of-life improvements, like streamlined menus and smoother performance. It makes the experience feel modern without losing its original heart. If you’re a fan of RPGs or just want a charming, story-driven adventure, this is a must-play. For returning fans, it’s the best way to revisit a classic; for newcomers, it’s the perfect introduction.

The fan-favorite game from the entire Paper Mario series makes a triumphant return with a beautiful HD remake. It has been a joy to revisit this game and experience the pinnacle of the series again. Hopefully this remake means that future Paper Mario games will return to the classic formula and bring back all of the things that fans have been missing—unique character and partner designs, traditional turn-based combat system, and a stronger emphasis on story. This remake is truly a must-play for Paper Mario fans new and old!

I can totally see why everyone was complaining about modern paper Mario now, I don't think I can ever go back. Every single character is unique from one another, the world is bright and colorful, the story is SO engaging and slightly dark at times. If you have heard all the talk about how TTYD was one of Nintendo's best games and wondering if it was true id say absolutely and its worth a shot! HOWEVER You must keep in mon that this is NOTHING like the origami king that is also on switch. That game is more so a puzzle platformer while TTYD is strictly an RPG. if your not a RPG fan then you might not enjoy this title as much as TOK. In saying that however, unlike other RPGs you don't just press a button and watch an animation. Each attack serves at there own mini quick time event. Its not the MOST engaging thing in the world but its better than Pokémon ill give it that. Which game should YOU get? This is a hard decision because although not EVERYONE likes RPGs TOK has puzzles as its main battle gimmick which some might argue is MORE boring. however TOK has measure's in place to make sure the player never stays stuck on a puzzle for to long. If you don't feel your child has the attention span for RPGs then I say TTYD, however if that can (or if they are older) I do suggest TTYD DO NOT buy TTYD first than TOK If you wanna get them both. TOK is less satisfying experience (compared to TTYD that is anyway.)

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on Nintendo Switch is a phenomenal remake of a GameCube classic, revitalizing one of Mario’s best RPGs with a gorgeous papercraft visual overhaul, an orchestrated dynamic soundtrack, and witty, memorable writing. Its theater-stage turn-based combat remains a masterclass in engagement thanks to timed action commands, unique partner abilities, and an extensive badge customization system. Nintendo also introduced smart quality-of-life additions, such as a fast-travel pipe room and quick partner swapping, to smooth over legacy friction. On the downside, the remake targets 30 FPS instead of the GameCube original’s 60 FPS (even if frame pacing stays solid), and despite the new warp shortcuts, certain chapters still suffer from noticeable backtracking and tedious fetch quests. Nevertheless, its irresistible charm, hilarious dialogue, and deep RPG mechanics make it an essential adventure on the console.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is an absolute classic and still just as fun today. The writing is charming, the turn-based combat is enjoyable, and the characters are unforgettable. Playing it on the Switch feels great and brings back a lot of nostalgia. A must-play for Mario fans.

This game is a masterpiece through and through. Simple but tight combat, charming story and characters. It’s hard to find things not love about TTYD especially with all the quality of life and graphics improvements in this remake.

This game has taken what was already an amazing, well thought out, fun and enjoyable experience and enhanced on it. The music has a touch of nostalgia to it, the battles flow a lot slower but in the best possible way, and theres some overall quality of life changes that make traversing the worlds and finding items so much more fun. This is absolutely worth $60 no questions asked.

Giving this game a 5 because it's still a fantastic game and the new coat of paint is done wonderfully. Just wish it still ran at 60fps like the GameCube version instead of 30. Hoping for a switch 2 update.

This game has held up so well in its gameplay and writing. The best story of any Mario RPG, characters and badges offer plenty of options for customizing your way of battling, and the new graphics really elevate the art. Small tweaks to the game here and there show that the team that worked on this remake really cared. I surprisingly could not feel a difference in combat between the remake's 30 fps and the original's 60 fps, so they definitely did their work to make sure combat still felt the same (though they definitely made guarding easier).

I’m absolutely "blown away" by this remake! Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is a total masterpiece that really "folds" in the perfect mix of humor, strategy, and charm. The visuals are crisp, and the gameplay is so smooth it feels like it was "pressed" to perfection. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the series, this game is a "staple" for any Switch library. It’s definitely not just another "flat" RPG—it’s got layers of fun that will keep you hooked for hours. Don’t "crease" under the pressure, just go out and grab this game; it’s a "tear-iffic" adventure!

For those thinking this is just an updcaled outer polish of arguably the greatest Paper Mario ever made on the GameCube...you would only be half right. Nintendo has truly outdone themselves and taken something that was near perfect and improving in very small ways that fans will appreciate. I won't spoil anything but they definitely added a ton of new content and it's 100% worth a buy even if you've played and beaten the GameCube version. I love the graphics, the music changes, and the gameplay elements that have been upgraded for the modern era. Dont pass this amazing game up

Looks amazing visually, remixed soundtrack is incredible, and has fantastic world building, amusing writing, really fun combat and some of the most memorable supporting characters in a Mario RPG. Lower framerate compared to the original game takes a moment to adjust to for super-fans of the original but nowhere near a deal-breaker for me. Highly recommended to any Mario fan or anyone looking for a fun RPG with a sense of humor and a lot of heart.

I missed this one back on the GameCube. Glad to get another chance to go through it on a modern system. The remaster looks and plays great! Enjoying this much more than Origami King, and I actually like that game. I just think the battle system in Thousand Year Door is more streamlined and satisfying—more fun overall. The storyline is light and entertaining. Highly recommend if you’re into Mario and/or whimsical role playing games.

This is one of the best remakes I’ve ever played — a loving, faithful update that respects the original GameCube classic while making it feel fresh and vibrant for modern audiences. If you’re a Mario fan, an RPG lover, or just someone who appreciates charm, humor, and top-tier presentation, this game is an absolute must play. Buy this game. Whether you played the original and want to relive the magic in glorious HD, or you’re discovering it for the first time, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is pure Nintendo excellence. One of the standout titles on the Switch and easily one of the best Mario games ever made. Highly, highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you haven't played the original when it came out on GameCube then you need to experience this game. And if you’re like me and already played the original then this is a worthy way to replay an old favorite in glorious HD + portable wherever you go!

Played the original to death back on the GameCube so seeing this fully remade with HD graphics and an updated art style was literally a childhood dream of mine come true. It’s a near perfect remake with its main issue being quite slow text speed if you’re a fast reader but the gameplay more than makes up for it. I cannot recommend it enough!

Fantastic remake of one of the best games on the GameCube. New music remixes, small additions to character models and script have made this game just as charming as the original game was. Absolutely worth the money in my opinion. Game does run at 30fps which I know is a deal breaker for some people but honestly it hasn't changed much and all the fuss over it hasn't dampened my enjoyment at all.

This is one of my favorite games of all time, an enjoyable time for anyone of any age. If you have someone that loves RPGs, Mario, or just great games with a great story, I'd highly reccomend it. And this enhanced reamke of the Nintendo Gamecube original has a lot of improvements that make it look and sound even better than before, and to gameplay that makes it accessible to anyone. Also the staff that gave me the game were polite and had it ready as soon as it was available to release.
