For a Pokemon game this was pretty special, just being able to have a slight amount of freedom was enough for me. But putting aside my childhood nostolgia for the game, its issues start to apear. I'll start with the most obvious, the graphics are rather awful. Although this could be due to the Switch being a very weak console or the nature of the open world was simoly to much for the producers to handle, it doesent really matter. This game looks like it could have come out in 2011. Personally I never found this to be an issue, but im aware that others will. My primary complaint is in the games repetitive simplicity. In short this game boils down to catching Pokemon. To progress at all in the story (which is also depressing simplistic) you're forced to catch pokemon repeatedly to finish reaserch tasks. Which in itself is not a horrible idea until you realise that catching a pokemon is essentially hiding in a bush throwing a berry and then waiting until the pokemon turns around. Although there is a feature to essentially fight the pokemon the option is rather pointless as the in game time required to gather the resources outweigh the convience of hiding in a bush. As such as soon as a pokemon sees you your best action is to run away as nesrly all pokemon follow the same AI, 1 it sees you, 2 it gets mad at you, 3 it attacks you. This repettstiveness does begin to drag on as the obly truly new thing that happens as you progress is seeing new pokemon. Now, I do find this review a bit harsh. As Im grading the game as if it were trying to be some sort of masterpiece, when it simply is not. Pokemon legends Arceus is a simply game at worst and a relaxing adventure at best, but it certainly will not be winning any awards. TLDR: Pretty good, easy a little boring. But Pokemon!

While Pokémon Legends: Arceus offers a fresh take on the franchise with its open-world gameplay and exploration mechanics, it often feels bogged down by its reliance on traditional Japanese cultural elements that can come off as repetitive and uninspired. The gameplay mechanics are engaging, but the reliance on a predictable backdrop and interactions with other characters leaves much to be desired in terms of storytelling and originality.

The concept is nice, I think they need to up their execution. The graphics isn't that good especially compared to something older like Botw.

It's a pretty fun game. It's amazing you can walk around the map freely now. The wild Pokemon hang around the land, but it still feels so fake/programmed, like they'll just walk a 8 foot span or just idle there in the sky if they're flying type. Pokemon fans will absolutely love it, flaws and all.

First try at a pokemon game - i just cant get into the turn based mechanics of this game. Only thing i like is the semi open world and when you fight the boss pokemon it has some action where you throw some bean bags at it - but then it goes back to turn based combat. Just not the game type for me.

Was looking forward to this game since the day got announced. I’m a huge Pokémon fan and was so excited for a new generation of Pokémon games. I can’t help but being incredibly disappointed by this game. It feels incredibly rushed and half developed. I don’t understand why the most profitable franchise in the world still can’t release a full-fledged game that doesn’t have graphics from 2006. What is there is decent it’s a fun game and I refresh in Pokémon game but it just feels incredibly lazy. The game is down right ugly at times and theirs very little excuses when beautiful games such as Xenoblade Chronicles 1-3 and Breath of the Wild look beautiful on the system. All in all this game is not worth the $60 price tag if you can find it for less than that it’s a fun game that should keep you occupied for a while but Its hard to shake the feeling that it is half cooked.

Honestly disappointed as a die hard pokemon fan the fact that this was boring and unexciting physically hurts

Honestly the game concept is cool but where it really struggles for me is the functionality of the game. The controls are pretty weird especially with joy cons and I really dislike how the b button is no longer the run button which was tradition in Pokémon games. I wouldn't complain if you could change the controls, but you can't. If you're considering buying this game I'd probably have a better controller than just joy cons especially considering the aiming function. Otherwise I'd give the game 4 stars if it's controls weren't so weird.

The mild open world system is ok, your choice to pursue pokemon silently or battle is a wonderful change that i loved. That graphics however do not befit a game of this gen. Catching a pokemon over water is an embarrassing collection of graphics from what apprars to be from early 2000s. This could have been a conplete game changer for the franchise, and they wasted it.

Extremely MID. I grew up playing pokemon and have a huge nostalgic attachment to the franchise. This game is decent except you have to muddle through some of the most tedious garbage before you get to wander around and collect pokemon.

Honestly, at this point, I think Gamefreak just doesn't have it no matter what they do. I'd love for them to put out another banger but I just don't think it'll happen. Not a good game here though, just more of the same.

Solid game. Beat in just under 30 hours. Battling has never been better and the Pokemon models look great. World is empty though, and gameplay gets repetitive and grindy. I think long-time Pokemon fans will like, or at least have a fun time for 30 hours.

This is a great game if you are a long time Pokémon fan. If you are just a causal Pokémon fan this game is average but still worth checking out if you want to get into the series.

Great graphics. The reason to the low review was due to the fact The game is sooooo repetitive. Like yeah Pokémon catch them all. But no. Catch them all 25 times each and then battle them x amount of times more. So yeah

There are some cool mechanics that make they game feel like you are playing the 90s show, but ultimately there isn't much variety in what you are doing. Catch 'em all ad nauseum. Feels more like a silly spinoff than anything.

Decent improvement on the Pokemon formula. The gameplay loop is fun, but the lack of work put in by GameFreak in the visual and world department makes me say wait for a Christmas sale to pick this up at a discount

great addition to the series and expansion of the concept. a little tedious at times with the dialogue and so forth, but a genuinely challenging pokemon experience. no multiplayer battles (!?!?) is a huge bummer

Wouldnt buy it in hindsight. grindy in a repetitive and unrewarding way. Only buy this if pokemon is your narco and you are a feign.

As a fan of pokemon games ever since the release of gameboy my general thought on this installment of pokemon to be great! The concept of the game brings a rather refreshing pokemon experience all the while keeping some of the original feel of the pokemon we grew to love. BUT........ as a game itself it feels very bland. Keep in mind I understand it is just a nintendo game so the graphics is not something to complain about but the entirety of the game all the dialogs are extremely boring and I wished they just made even a little bit of a noise. If you love pokemon because of the franchise than get it! If you love the pokemon game series I would suggest buying it at a lower price.
