Hi Robert. Thank you for your question! We don't recommend using a light switch if your Ring device is connected to it. When you remove power from the device for long periods of time it can lose connection to your home wifi. When the device is powered back on without a connection it will enter setup mode. In setup mode the lights will flash to show it's ready to be setup. If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring devices please reach out to our community.
