I have several existing Ring devices. I bought both the Smart Wired and Battery Ring Floodlights. I love the wired floodlights, but NOT the battery floodlights. Why ? Because the battery floodlights use 4 D cells and not the rechargeable Ring battery. Also a big negative, it doesn’t have solar charging capabilities. I bought rechargeable D cell batteries but I’m already having to climb up and down the ladder to manually recharge them. Until Ring changes this, avoid buying it for now. The lighting is adequate, range of directing the lights is better than the Wired device, and setting it up was easy.

Hello MrRoo,
Ring Floodlight Battery is designed to last around a year on one set of batteries under normal use. Battery life is dependent on device settings, usage, and other factors such as the weather. Brightness may decrease as battery life is depleted. Ring recommends using standard alkaline batteries in Floodlight Battery. Rechargeable batteries will work in Ring Floodlight Battery, though they may not last as long as alkaline batteries. Heavy duty batteries should not be used in Ring Floodlight Battery. Lithium batteries will also work in Ring Floodlight Battery and are recommended when the weather is extremely cold. If you'd like to discuss this further, please email me directly.

The Ring smart light is a nice alternative if you don’t have any existing wiring for a light fixture on your home. So I chose to go with this battery powered version. It takes 4 D batteries and mounts very easy. It took me all of 15 minutes to get this mounted on exterior of my home. Each light looks like it has 3 led diodes. To be honest it is not as bright as traditional floodlights but I understand this being that it is battery powered. The light itself is nice, serves its purpose and the sensor is very accurate. I get updates on my phone when it detects movements and when the light is triggered. Even in the daytime when lights aren’t triggered it’ll still send you a notification, which I like. It’s good to know when there is movement around your home. This light will also integrate with other Ring accessories. Overall it could be a little brighter but it does its job for the convenience factor.

Hi Parker,
You should be able to adjust the brightness in your Ring App. Please connect with me directly if you need help with this: Bilan.jenkins@ring.com

This light was great for its' easy installation in an area where there is no wiring available. It puts off a decent amount of light and doesn't seem overly sensitive. My only complaint is not having smart functions built in. I was hoping to tie it into my other smart home items that i control through Alexa but realized after I bought you have to cough up another $45 for Ring's bridge to add smart functions. But there are not many battery powered motion sensor security lights on the market so it still wasn't bad deal

Easy to install and works well. Worth the money spent

We thought this was a camera at first and realized it wasn’t. It was easy to install and it’s very bright for the size. We ended up getting another one with stick up cams and they work perfectly together.

Just started installing Ring security products throughout my home, and needed a light in our small back yard. This fits the bill, however, I would suggest maybe paying a little more for the spotlight/camera wired or wireless. This works just fine, but is not as bright, and the battery life is not the best. If it's just a small area that you need light and recording is not needed, this works fine.

The Ring spotlight has a motion sensor. It puts out a lot of light. It was super easy to install and works great.

We live in a very rural area and don’t have electric ports on garage - this fits the bill and lights up the entry to garage door well. Haven’t had long enough to see battery life.

I have a wired and a wireless ring floodlight in my yard now. I have not noticed a difference in strength between them, and the installation is very easy. I've had it for a few months now, and use it nightly for the dogs, and the batteries seem to be doing just fine. The app will tell you how much battery life is left so you wont be surprised when it runs down.

Easy installation, it is very sensitive to motion. I have reset the motion detector several times and it even picks up the wind blowing.

This product works great except it goes off all the time regardless of settings. Bugs, rain, etc. put it in a location where changing the batteries often won’t be a hassle. Our batteries lasted 3 months.

This is a good light, not sure yet about battery life, but you must have the bridge or the light is on during the day

This is one of the best motion detector flood lights that I have installed! But it is way too sensitive when the wind blows and the grass moves, it sets off the alert, day and night! A little too sensitive, and I have it adjusted as minimal as possible.

Got this after having another one for almost a year and still going strong with original batteries so I added this to the other side of the house and they both kick on at the same time but can alert me as to which picked up the motion

I have purchased all of my Ring products from Best Buy, and this floodlight hasn't disapointed. People say that the fact that this light runs on four "D" size batteries, should not be a negative factor. I have other Ring lights, and Spotlights that also run on "D" batteries, and they have lasted exactly the time frame stated by Ring. Dep nding on usage, they are listed to last up to a year before changing. I can clearly see that is the case. I have not been disapointed by any Ring Product I have purchased so far. Especially when Best Buy runs some awesome deals.

At first, I was a little skeptical about how well this floodlight would work but it was easy to install and it gives great lighting for our cameras when someone walks onto our property. I would buy another one if needed.

Good light but the batteries have to be replaced too often. I would definitely go with the wired instead.

Hi briqqqq. I understand the importance of being able to rely on your Ring Smart Lighting. If you find that the batteries are draining quicker than expected, adjusting the light and motion settings may help cut back on unwanted motion detection. This will help extend the amount of time between charges.
