Customers are delighted by the expansive storage capacity and reliability of the Expansion 14TB External USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive. Many appreciate its ease of use and compact size, finding it a good value for the price. However, some users noted that the drive can be noisy and occasionally experience connection problems.
Bought this external HDD to use as a Time Machine backup for our two MacBook Pros. HDD comes preformatted for windows, but as soon as I plugged it into my MacBook it identified it needed reformatting, prompted me to do it, and once done my computer started the process for getting it setup to use as my time machine backup destination. The HDD itself comes with multiple adapters for the electrical, which is pretty neat considering you could be in a world of hurt if you decided to relocate from one country to another. It also comes with the necessary data cord, and data recovery services if you need them. Product registration was super easy on the Seagate site, and I only paid $20 more than if I had bought it from Seagate on sale; bonus is that there was no waiting cause I picked-up, in-store same day. The extra $20 was worth it. Both MacBooks had zero issue backing up to the drive, and it’s got plenty of space left. It does only have the one port option, so that does limit how quickly it transfers data. My old iomega drive had two different FireWire ports, a thunderbolt port, and USB. That said, even with the USB port this uses, it backs up about 500gb an hour, give or take, using Time Machine. It goes without saying, if you need faster transfer speeds, and have more cash to put down, a SSD will be quicker, but for purely back-up purposes? I’d say this is more than adequate for the average person. Overall solid buy, and would def recommend.

Despite being labeled as a 14Tb external drive is actually has about 12.5Tb of storage. Read and Wright speeds are very slow. Transferring over my photo and video files its going at about 10-15Mbps. Says its going to take around 2.5 hours to transfer 400Gb. Neer mind the other 5Tb of storage I need to transfer to it. Not looking forward to how long its going to take for that, but when its only one project st a time down the road having it just as the backup storage drive will be fine. Would only really recommend this as a backup/master drive to hold everything so you can wipe your SSD’s to work off of.

This external hdd is massive, reliable and quiet. What more do you want? And it's a much better value than the other brand.
