The overall picture quality of this tv is incredible. The motion is excellent - a big step up from my A9G. This TV gets very bright in HDR/Dolby Vision content - an even bigger step up from my A9G, and I bet, probably pretty close to an A90J. The interface is excellent - I love google tv, I love how Sony lays out it's settings and picture controls, overall awesome. My panel does have some magenta around the edges, and top right-hand corner in certain scenes and the bottom left corner has a cyan tint. Aside from the minor panel defects, this TV is excellent! I love the remote - four great shortcut buttons.

The Sony Bravia XR A80J has a beautiful picture. Incredible clarity. Speakers are decent. Knowing that most TV built in speakers are average at best, these are above average as you can play them at a high setting without distortion. With that said, you would probably get more out of the TV with a quality surround sound system. I like the fact that you can connect to Google or Alexa and use voice commands! One downside (but not a huge issue) is glare. I the tv is in a bright room or near a window/door, you can see a reflection (See pictures). Picture is perfect in a dark room. Would have given 5 stars if not for glare.

Sony TVs look the best in the darkest environment possible, so it's a good idea to turn off all lighting sources if you really want the best viewing experience. For best picture quality, we do not recommend exposing the screen to direct illumination or sunlight and installing the TV in a room with a reflective wall and floor materials. You can always adjust the picture and brightness setting of the TV for any glare concerns

The Bravia XR A80J OLED Smart TV was relatively easy to set up. The onscreen setup procedure walks you through connecting to input sources and the internet and the built-in speakers are clear with good fidelity. I have been viewing multiple shows from cable and streaming sources on the TV for about a month and the picture is still a little too "blue" for my taste but I will wait a couple months before I attempt any adjustments to the color and hue. The sharpness and depiction of black is superb. Much better than anything I've seen from the other OLED and QLED smart TVs. I'm glad I waited to replace my Panasonic Plasma TV until Sony came out with this line of OLED Smart TVs.

I was going to buy the LG CX at first. LG had a huge display in the store and looked very impressive. On a whim I walked over to the Sony and right away realized how bleached out the colors were on the LG. Just reading the specs doesn't give the full picture. This tv is beautiful. And oMG these tv speakers are a level up from previous modles.

I love love love this tv! When I originally arrived at best buy i wasnt sure what type of tv i wanted i usually go for samsungs but then a worker introduced me to Sony and i fell inlove with the 77 inch sony bravia! The colors are so vibrant and beautiful! I definitely would go with this tv again for my living room! Wish i could add a video because these pictures dont do it justice!

2 weeks with new Sony oled tv. Tv has a great picture, but must use 4K sources to fully appreciate (uhd 4k Blu-ray’s!). 77” tv is nice size for room- viewing from about 11’ away. Thin profile, with wide viewing angle. Sound is good, but not used, as home theater system is used for sound. Smart tv features are good but using Apple TV. Remote is typical Sony remote but using universal remote. If going oled Sony has to be on the short list.

I extremely satisfied with my TV, the picture is awesome. The only thing I did not like was the Tv sits to low to the furniture top not ideal for a sound bar witch blocks the remote sensor.

Thanks for sharing your experience so far with your new A80J. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. This TV have multiple mount positions (3-way stand) which includes a higher mount position for soundbar clearance. The height of the TV stand when on a soundbar position is approximately 2 7/8 inch (72.3 mm) and the width will become approximately 40 7/8 (1,036 mm). If your soundbar's height measures below than this approximate TV stand height in soundbar position, then it should provide enough clearance for your unit to fit under the screen.

Bottom line for this tv; if you’re debating whether to get a 77” A80J or a 65” A90J, get bigger A80J. I’ve fallen in love with watching movies all over again. After going through 3 A90J panels with horrible screen uniformity issues, I decided to pick this tv up and I couldn’t be happier. All the screen uniformity issues that plagued the A90J are non-existent on this panel. Super clean, even for a 77”. And no purple tinting in sight! Picture quality, motion, and UI is superb. For watching movies and shows it’s just beautiful once you dial it in. I watch during the day and night time hours, and it’s great for both. However, I have only one window in the room which is off to the side. The build quality is better than the A90J too in my opinion. Now where this tv falls apart is with gaming and e-arc. No VRR or ALLM out the gate (which I knew) is a bummer and hopefully Sony releases that firmware update soon. Also, playing Xbox series x on this tv, although visually stunning, is a let down on the audio front. If you plan on using a receiver via e-arc with a 5.1 setup or more prepare to be annoyed. When using bitstream audio with the XSX (DTS or Dolby Digital) the sound will cut out every few seconds. It’s literally unusable. I know this is an issue with this tv because the LG C1 doesn’t have this issue. So hopefully the Sony rep that trolls these reviews and posts replies takes note of this. So, if you want a gaming tv for next gen gaming, look elsewhere for now. Especially with only 2 HDMI 2.1 ports available and one being e-arc. Hope this helps someone! Good luck!

For this, try checking the Digital audio out and set it to Auto 1 or Auto 2 instead of PCM.

I debated multiple times on pulling the trigger on getting this tv over the lg c2. I finally decided to go with the Sony a80j and I’m glad I did. The colors pop out of the screen. The darks are great. The goggle App Store is good. I wish it had more hdmi 2.1 but hopefully there’s a adapter to get that supports it. Gaming on it is also good. NHL22 looks great on it. My only concern is geek squad told me they calibrate my tv and the words doesn’t match up to the screen hooked up to my surround sound. I contacted Best Buy and they told me to go to the bestbuy I purchased the tv about the calibration which is too much hassle since it’s already mounted on my wall. But the tv is a fantastic buy

I am coming from a 14-year-old Panasonic TH-42PZ700U plasma TV, so keep that in mind. That said I purchased these TV because my old plasma finally died. I purchased since I don't want to go the movie theaters anymore (thanks covid) and to play video games at home. I was going to best buy to buy LGC1 but when I was the picture quality of the A80J, I quickly forgot about the LG oled. I am glad I went to best buy to see the tvs in person. The picture quality is out of this world. My movies and PS5 gaming nights never looked better. I could spend hours watching YouTube 4K content. Because I am coming from a Plama TV, I find the TV to be VERY bright. I am quite happy with the brightness during the day. The biggest con for this TV is the annoying ABL that you cannot turn off. This comes into play when you are watching sports. When you a have static image for too long like a score board, the image WILL start to dim. To combat this I sent the image to peak luminance high. I wish there was a setting to turn in off. I also notice some minor image retention. I am always careful with my TV, so no bring problem. Final thoughts: best purchase in my life. Because I purchased this TV for movies, I don't get too frustrated with the ABL. If you do a lot of gaming and watch sports with static images, you're better off getting the LED X95J or the upcoming X95K if you want to keep it in the Sony family. Keep in mind even the LG OLED have the same ABL. SONY give us the setting to turn off ABL please.

We also appreciate pointing out the peak luminance setting that determines how bright it's going to actually be on the average. Picture settings allow a wide array of changes to color, contrast, motion settings, and brightness that can improve the viewed content on your TV.
If the same image is displayed repeatedly or for long periods of time, image retention may occur. This issue is not a malfunction. The good news is that we have equipped it with functions, [Pixel shift] and [Panel refresh], that are designed to reduce image retention. These functions automatically run according to your TV’s condition or you can run them manually.

Great TV, Sony support not so great. Been doing a lot of research the past couple months to upgrade a current TV. All the information can be confusing and difficult to define. The TV I replaced was in a well lit room. Bright? Define bright. Side windows and two skylights. Always had an afternoon glare on the LED TV for about 2-3 hours a day in the summer. Cover the skylights in the summer to keep room cool. Most “expert” opinions were basement, OLED; above basement, LED. Went to Best Buy Magnolia and one rep says Samsung QLED and another says Sony LED. Again, think it comes down to preference. Decided to go with OLED and it was the right choice. Picture cannot be described. Almost as you’re there. As far as reflections, not as bad as what I thought it might be. A little more noticeable than the LED, but not enough for me to return. Most of my TV watching is at night and might get some direct sun late afternoon for about 30 minutes. I can’t comment on sound since it’s hooked up to a Bose Lifestyle system. Wall mounting was no problem. This TV's mounting bracket area is lower than the Sony LED I replaced so it sits higher on the wall. I currently have a “case” opened with Sony Support. The display does not reach the edge of the screen which is especially noticeable at the bottom. Also, I am not able to adjust the picture size using any device. Sony Blu-ray, ROKU Premiere 4K, Apple TV 4K, and the TV itself. Default setting is off for Auto Adjust. Open any of these Apps on any device and TV display settings are grayed out and can’t be changed. Did an online chat and removed all devices and factory reset the TV. Didn’t resolve the issue so they said they would elevate to the “Engineers.” Told them I work until 5 pm, so they call me at work at about 3:45 pm. Didn’t take my TV to work that day so I was out of luck. Called back when I got home, only to be told that I needed to send pictures and that I can’t change the display. In the meantime, Best Buy swapped out the TV when I explained the circumstances. Same issue with this TV and I get an email that they’re trying to contact me. Called back and tech said the black bar was supposed to be there. I asked about not being able to change display settings and he said they didn’t include that in the original ticket. Techs are working from home since a kid is crying and dog barking in the background. I asked for a manager and they put me on with someone else. Sounded like roosters crowing in the background where she's working at. Says she would update the ticket and transfer me back to tech support since they have troubleshooting steps to do. Told her I went thru all of that on Sunday. 25 minute call to accomplish nothing and put me right back to where I started. So to sum it up, if you want a TV that has a great picture and a picture that you cannot adjust the size, this is for you. If you want a TV that lacks manufacturer customer support, this TV is for you. If you feel that for $3500 you should be able to change the display size and they give you the option to disable in the settings, than this TV isn’t for you. If you feel that after spending $3500 of your hard earned money on a TV and expect a certain level of support from the manufacturer, then this TV isn’t for you. Almost 4 days for an “engineer” to say the bar is wider at the bottom on this model TV.

Love the clarity and picture quality. I’ve had it for 2 years now. The only problem I have is that the apps sometimes freeze up on it and I have to restart the TV. No complaints other than that. Beautiful picture. Sound is good. Settings to adjust the picture are very ample. I’d buy Sony again and again.

The picture on this tv is amazing. Especially when viewing hdr content. Unfortunately it’s not a good gaming tv because of horrible abl. The picture dims down when playing Xbox series x. Also experienced getting kicked out of Netflix constantly and some earc problems. Sony makes a beautiful tv unfortunately there way behind with there gaming features with only two hdmi inputs and the lack of vrr. Also called Sony support to get help with the audio issues and the support guy was rude ave very unprofessional with loud people screaming in the back ground. My experience with Best Buy has been excellent and would definitely use them again on my next purchase.

Perfect picture quality out of the box, nothing can easily receive five stars but they came very close and I think in most of the areas you don’t need more than this. Brightness, sound quality, ease of use in general makes it a satisfying package.
