I initially had a 48" LG OLED for my Series X in my game room which opened my eyes to how amazing the OLED tvs are. I wanted to replace out TCL LED TV in the living room with an OLED and decided on the Sony A80j. Pros: - A+ Picture Quality - Great for Gaming ESPECIALLY PS5! - VRR - 4K HDR Dolby Vision - PERFECT Blacks - NO backlight glow - NO panel clouding - Quick Response - Great additional built in features (Live Color Super Sampling) - Handles Reflections well - Gets bright Cons: - NOT for a VERY bright room with no way to control the light - Google TV is mediocre at best and sometimes sluggish (We use a Roku in place) I did a bunch of review diving online and YouTube and landed on the A80j. The main purpose of the TV was to be in the living room and be used for primarily Movies and TV with a secondary use being for the PS5. In conclusion of my research I realized that the A80j was better than the LG CX for Movies... Also a better option if you were using it with the PS5 since it is Sony and has an even better handshake with the console than a Xbox would. I also went forward with it for gaming since I knew that it would get VRR at a later date which it did. The picture is top notch and there is nothing better than OLED in my opinion. The only drawbacks would be if your room it is in in VERY bright. Like a room with many windows but no curtains or blinds. Ours is in our living room that has 3 windows that the tv faces (with blinds and curtains) as well as 2 windows in our kitchen (with blinds). I have zero complaints about the brightness. It also handles reflections very well imo. When you are sitting in just the right spot on the catch at the right time you can get some sun reflection through the blinds in the kitchen but it is really minimized with the type of finish the screen has. Games and movies look beautiful on this panel! It can output 120hz for gaming as well and looks great doing it! Do not be afraid to experiment with the additional features built inside of this TV. Sony is one of the best in the industry. Find a good baseline of what to have on and off online and tweak from there. You will be floored with the quality and clarity of this TV and never want to go back from an OLED. People worry about burn in but I think they WAY over think it. I have 2 OLEDs and have not been worried at all about it. Be smart... Don't leave it on a static screen forever. There is Pixel Shift, screen savers etc built into all the newer OLEDs!

OLED is no joke. You can read about black levels and infinite contrast all you want, but, until you witness it in person watching your favorite UHD discs, it becomes unbelievable relevant. Movies you've seen dozens of times, look so much better. Insane detail in texture, perfect blacks and black details, and in my opinion bright enough to make anyone say wow. I was worried about OLED not being bright enough, but in reality it is perfect for my room. I can control darkness day and night, but if you have a very bright room without window control, you may want to look at the brighter LEDs. But, you'll miss out on what makes OLED so great. Infinite contrast and pure black, which may sound like marketing, but it is true. What a difference it truly makes. I bought the 77" for my space. UHD discs, 4K Streaming (AppleTV+, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Discovery+) look amazing in that order. I sit about 12' from the screen and it is perfect for 4K viewing. I do notice a huge difference between 4K and 720P and 1080 programing streaming from YoutubeTV and other sources. But, that is to be expected. I went to a much larger TV at the same seating distance. Deal breaker, no. Youtube TV 4K streaming looks very nice on the limited live programming they offer, Thursday night Football, College Football, and Soccer that I've seen. If you're primarily going to watch streaming in HD, I may go with the 65" at a 10-14' seating distance. But, if you're going to watch movies and programs in UHD 4K, this size is a must. Other benefits include superior motion control. This is a feature I've always turned off in past televisions. But, Sony's software and high refresh rate is beyond comparison. Smooth clear action in sports and films. Finally, the Bravia Core platform this TV comes with is very nice. At this level TV, you get 5 movies and 12 months unlimited streaming at around 80Mbps...near UHD Disc data rates. Outstanding picture from this streaming service and it is included. Obviously, the A+ titles are for redemption while the B Movies are for unlimited streaming. Highly recommend the Sony-specific mount for this TV. It allows it to sit flush to the wall while also allowing you to pull it out enough to get to all of the inputs. Built very well. Pair this TV with a Panasonic UB820 UHD player and it is a match made in heaven. Superior picture and when tied to a surround system, amazing sound. Comparing to when I used my XBOX as my UHD player. Truly Awesome TV. Blacks and contrast are unmatched. Motion control is spectacular and Bravia Core is included for some amazing quality streaming content.

The 77 Sony a80j looks amazing. I own a 63 inch Samsung plasma and a 75 inch Sony 900e, and this oled is by far my favorite. The a80j gets brighter than I was expecting. In fact, I’ve had to turn down the brightness at night because it was hurting my eyes. The motion is also much better than I was expecting. In the motion flow settings, using 1 on smoothness and 1 on clearness, I like the motion better than my plasma or lcd. Obviously the contrast is also great due to it being an oled. It’s so nice watching sci-fi movies with pitch black outer space.

Sony has upped its game with this TV. See it to believe it. Pros: 1. PQ is a 10/10 at the least. 2. Upscaling is another 10/10. 3. Sound from tv is amazingly good, but obviously can’t beat a dedicated speaker. 4. Google tv interface and settings are easy to operate. 5. Bravia core is an amazing free app which changes streaming forever. 6. Build quality is superb. 7. 3 way stand is a welcome feature for soundbar placement or a narrow stand. 8. The tv gets bright enough for a well lot room as long as the tv is not directly facing the sun. Cons: 1. Only 2 hdmi 2.1 ports: A big downside for gamers 2. No VRR support at this moment which is another big issue for hardcode gamers. 3. The EARC implementation is buggy. A lot of audio dropouts and also the consumption/passthrough of lossless PCM transmission(from apple tv ) is really bad. Worth mentioning: the 55” and 65” model has a matte finish screen where as the 77” tv has a traditional Glossy screen. In dark rooms both perform equally well but in a well lit room, i feel the matte finish somehow appears blue and reflects light more from sides making the screen image look dimmer. The glossy one performs well even a well lit room.

What a great TV beautiful picture display. nice and bright vivid colors very thankful for my purchase. Perfect for the PlayStation 5 add a backlight for some extra ummff hopefully getting a sound bar to go with it as well!! Looking forward to future Sony products!
