arrived today. took it to a test run. seems like it is impossible to take a bad shot with it. But there are lots of things to figure out. along the way, The first shock was lightroom couldn't recognize its ARW file. checking the internet for a solution now. But overall it is a great camera and I am happy to purchased it.

If you shoot sports, maybe try and find a camera that can shoot faster. If not, this camera is great for just about everything else

DO NOT buy the open box version of this (or any other) camera. I made the mistake of ordering an open box version of this camera from BestBuy online. It was delivered to my home yesterday, and everything looked great...until I pulled the camera out of the box. My first clue that something was wrong was the cool flippy-tilty screen innovation that Sony invented for the a7rv. The screen on this camera tilted, but it didn't flip or rotate. At first I thought I was doing something wrong, but quickly came to the horrific realization that my "open box a7rv" was NOT an a7rv. I immediately took this into my local store and asked for a manager, as this is a serious (criminal) issue. The 'experience supervisor' came to help me along with their photo guy (both were fantastic), and we determined that this camera was actually an old a7iii that someone in Ohio (where the camera came from) had doctored to LOOK like an a7rv to the untrained eye. It appears they bought the a7rv, took the stickers and bottom plate off, put them on their old a7iii, and then returned it. Here's where it gets really annoying. I thought at the time my local store was going to help with with this (very serious) issue...until they called the store manager who wasn't working that day. The manager said their policy required me to call 888-BEST-BUY to process a return. So, I called the number, and did my best to explain to the overseas call center employee the severity of this situation. I'm still unsure if he even understood what I was saying, and just sent me a UPS label to return the camera. So, I dropped the camera off at the UPS store for return, but now I'm asking myself...."is this thing going to go BACK into the "open box" category for sale on the website when they receive it??? I was never able to get anyone to really commit to helping me with this issue, other than just processing my return. I'm the type that wants someone in authority to address this situation with me directly, and provide me with some assurances that this won't happen again. I didn't get that from this experience at all. I got a bunch of 'passing the buck', so I'm now worried one of YOU will end up with this same situation. So, BUYER BEWARE! DO NOT buy an open box item from Best Buy. Photos attached show several of the discrepancies in this camera: the a7rv sticker is in the wrong spot on the camera, the bottom plate was clearly swapped, the record button is in the wrong place, the mode dial doesn't have the lock button, the flippy screen issue (that you can't see in the photo), the joystick has a different texture. I didn't take a picture of the menu screen, but it identifies the camera as ILCE-7m3. Also, the card slots were only for SD cards, not CFExpress type A cards. Although the two employees I spoke with were both wonderful and understanding, I am FURIOUS with the way this was handled, INCONVENIENCED by having to make multiple trips into town to talk with them and then to drop it off at the UPS store, and to add insult to injury, UPS made me buy a roll of tape to seal the box before shipping (because I broke down the shipping box after opening it). I view this as a sweeping failure on the part of Best Buy on both sides of this transaction. DO NOT BUY!

Beautiful camera awesome sensor, totally worth it.

The Sony Alpha 7R V is one of the most impressive cameras I have ever used. The level of detail it captures is simply incredible, making it an outstanding choice for photographers who demand maximum image quality and flexibility in post processing. The resolution is remarkable. Images are packed with detail, allowing for extensive cropping while still maintaining excellent quality. This has been especially useful when working on commercial projects, portraits, architecture, and landscape photography where every detail matters. Autofocus performance is exceptional and feels like a major step forward. Subject detection and eye tracking are fast, accurate, and reliable, even in challenging situations. It makes capturing sharp images much easier and allows me to focus more on creativity rather than technical concerns. Dynamic range is another standout feature. I recently purchased the Sony Alpha 7 IV, and I have been extremely impressed with its performance. I miss my fuji (I had the X-T2, T3, T4!) but between the reliability, performance, and ergonomics of this camera... I am in love!!! This was a tough pill to swallow between how much it cost and what I was giving up to do so (selling all my fuji and other gear) but after nearly 8 months of research, dozens of best buy visits to handle the display model, and watching every YouTube video on this camera -- I have made one of the best purchases ever. I am no professional, and I don't even profit a lot when I do shoots. However, I am one who loves having a camera, to capture everything from everyday moments to the special events and of course, my travels! I am a hybrid shooter by nature, I mainly love to make videos but by volume I take more photos. My FAVORITE thing about this camera is how FAST it turns on AND switches between photo and video mode-- It is SO SO SO RESPONSIVE!! Imagine just clicking away at the candid moments and boom you switch to video mode and start recording in under half a second!! This has been so amazing for me as I am able to truly capture EVERYTHING!! (I do not worry about technical or artistic perfection as both myself and the people that see my edits are all just happy they were taken in the first place) My second favorite thing about this camera is simply the autofocus. It. Does. NOT. Miss!!! I've shot everything from volleyball, to graduation pictures, to animals in the wild, to fighter jets, to mountains, to vlogging eveything -- there is no missing your target when the built in AI can be instructed to literally find and HOLD focus on the target. The settings are so fine tunable that if you miss focus on this camera, you do not understand it and should not be using it. Third for me is the speed of CFexpress type-A (I personally use OWC cards) and the longevity of the battery. There is so much to be said about the peace of mind that having a reliable and fast card can give you. Take it from a non-pro but serious shooter... you're investing in a multi-thousand dollar camera, DO NOT cripple it or hold it back by going cheap on cards or battery!!! One battery lasts me through most of the day until about lunch time or so which I charge while I eat thru the USBC port then end the day with just enough juice to off load all my photos and footage. I could write a love letter to this camera and the 90% perfection it is. The ONLY thing I can complain about is how bulky and heavy it can sometimes get

This is my 2nd Sony A7R V and it is an absolute monster. The kind of camera that makes you look at your old gear like, “Wow, we really struggled together, huh?” The autofocus is sticky in the best way, the files are crisp enough to make you emotional, and the dynamic range is basically wizardry. I recently had the pleasure of using the Sony A7R IV, and I must say, it's an extraordinary camera that exceeds expectations. Coming from the Sony a7RIVa body, I was already familiar with the amazing resolution of the 61-Megapixel sensor. The newer A7RV keeps that sensor, but there were just enough upgrades with the a7RV to consider replacing the older body. I think the major upgrade has to do with the improved autofocus. The focus on the A7RIV was no slouch, but the improvements due to their addition of a separate focusing module in the camera alone was enough for me to upgrade. The new autofocus system covers more of the sensor, and refined subject recognition makes focus tracking ridiculously good, even in low light. Beyond the autofocus, Sony made some noteworthy improvements in the body design and function as well, especially with the fully-articulating LCD screen with touch control, improved high-resolution viewfinder, and also the improved menu system. I must admit that Sony made this camera highly configurable, which also adds its complexity. Because of this, the flexibility to customize the camera allows adaptability to fit the needs of just about every photographer. Other improvements include improved data handling with options for image file compression, as the files sizes can get quite large because of its 61-megapixel sensor. The a7RV also added a new card format to better handle the large files sizes, allowing rapid shooting without buffer delays. The two card slots can handle both the standard SD cards, as well as the newer faster CFExpress Type A cards. They are more expensive, but the faster cards are necessary in some cases to get the most out of the camera, such as recording 8K video. If you are a still image shooter, then fast SD cards can usually suffice. About the only negative I can mention is that I wish it could use the cheaper faster Type B CFExpress cards. The camera comes complete with a battery and external charger, the customary strap with the Sony logo, a USB-C cable to charge the battery inside the camera as well as transfer data to your PC or laptop. As an advanced amateur photographer, I find the Sony a7RV to be the perfect camera, providing almost medium format quality. Match that with Sony’s world class array of lenses and the ability to use third-party lenses as well, and you have a powerful image and video machine that can handle just about everything you can throw at it in a small mirrorless body. I am excited to own this camera and really glad I made the upgrade.

I had been pretty happy in the Nikon camp for decades, but they just seemed to lag behind in spite of recent autofocus gains with Z5ii and Z6iii. Having a somewhat outdated Z6i and an even older D610 DSLR with assorted primes and zooms, I decided to buy the a7Rv. The spectacular autofocus and the 61MP sensor for landscapes won me over. Paired with the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 as my first lens, I couldn’t be happier. The new a7Rvi has additional refinements, but this is more than I need.

I upgraded from a 20 year old DSLR. This model is mirrorless. I am Completely Satisfied! Auto focus is very quick. Features are easy access. Touch screen tilts and flips. Photos are razor sharp. WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity makes for easy sharing. Dual card slots fur Scandisk or CF Express memory cards. This unit is stunning!
