    Landscape Photography Dream

Using the Sony A7R V for landscape photography has been one of the most inspiring creative experiences I’ve had. The first time I took it out on a hike, I was stunned by how much detail it captured — every leaf, every ripple in a distant lake, every layer of a mountain range felt alive in the frame. The 61MP sensor truly brings landscapes to life, but it’s more than just the resolution — it’s the dynamic range, the way it handles light and shadow with such grace. I’ve shot sunrises where the sky glows gold while the foreground still holds onto its depth and texture. It feels like the camera sees more than my eyes sometimes. The autofocus is sharp and smart, even when I’m trying to compose in tricky light or through moving branches. And the in-body stabilization has saved so many shots I thought I’d missed. It’s light enough to carry all day, but powerful enough to make every scene feel like it’s worth capturing. This camera has made me slow down, look more closely, and fall even more in love with the landscapes I hike through. It’s not just a tool — it’s become part of the experience.

High Res, Useable Low-Light Amazing Autofocus

The 60 Megapixels offers photographers plenty of room in the editing process to crop into the best frame of every shot. Paired with the AI autofocus and dedicated subject/eye tracking processor, the speed and accuracy of the autofocus is top tier. Not many consumer level cameras even come close at the accuracy and speed, even in tough environments like forests or two stops below ideal exposure. The subject tracking has been extended to humans, animals, insects, birds, planes, and even trains. I use for weddings, the option to record at lossless L, M, snd S MP equivalent sizes is amazing. If you don’t need the full 60MP, no problem, save file size and memory by choosing the M format (roughly 26MP). Video is amazing too! It’s not a dedicated video line camera, but it holds its weight with 4:2:2 10-bit and 4k60 and 8K. Admittedly not ideal for low light overall, but it holds its dynamic range pretty close to its smaller MP counterparts like the A7iii, actually boasting a slight edge l across iso values, especially its second native iso of 320. Mind the increased noise in lower light situations, it’s still very useable up to 3000 with no problem in photo mode. Video is even a stronger contender with Slog3 with surprisingly useable noise levels almost reaching 10,000. As always use lights and wide apertures if available, but even without it is a strong contender. The low-light crop-in photos attached shows how the low-light, crop-in, and post-processing noise reduction all work together to make otherwise impossible situations possible without additional light.

    Great Hybrid! Love it!

Choosing the A7R V in 2025 felt like the most obvious decision I’ve ever made, yet somehow the hardest. Obvious because I’m already neck-deep in Sony glass, and jumping ship would’ve cost me a small fortune. Hard because the competition is fierce and the “no open gate”. The 61-megapixel sensor is ridiculous, in the best way. Downsampled 4K from 8K oversampling looks cleaner than most cameras shoot natively. Skin tones are creamy, detail in landscapes is great. The AF is the same monster system as the A1/A7S III now, sticky doesn’t even begin to describe it. About that open gate drama… yeah, I get it. 3:2 open-gate would simplify a lot of vertical deliverables and future-proof things even more. But honestly? I’m already drowning in 8K RAW files that eat SSDs for breakfast. Adding open-gate would probably send me to therapy. The 16-bit RAW video files from this thing are already comically large; I’d need a second mortgage for storage if Sony gave us full-sensor readout at 8K. So while open gate would be nice in theory, I’m secretly relieved they didn’t do it. My NAS thanks them. Ergonomics are peak Sony now. The new flip-out screen is perfect, the best. If you’re a resolution junkie, love punching into 8K timelines like it’s 4K, or just want future-proof stills from your video camera, the A7R V is an absolute weapon. Btw, does well in low-light. Attached photo, light was coming from 1 side of the building - iso was set 12,800

Brings the shock and awe factor to level 11

Awesome upgrade from a7iii. Back tilt/swivel screen, high resolution EVF, stunning dynamic contrast, cropability with 61MP makes for great editing in post, image stabilization especially with an OSS Sony lens makes this purely fun to shoot on, autofocus is simply brilliant. Sony makes some incredible gear Sadly my jpegs are quite larger than 10MB for uploading some examples, lol

the best hybrid cam of choice for me

Coming from an A7rii (2017-2019) an A7riii (2018-2021) and an A7iv (2021-current 2nd body): The things I love the most that I feel is worth upgrading are the EVF, the Tilt/Swivel screen, the extra megapixels + option to have smaller files, the 8 stops IBIS, the color science, the ai autofocus, and the current body style that lets me switch from photo to video settings real fast. I'm a 50-50 hybrid shooter that mainly shoots events, and real estate, lifestyle portraits, and this is the perfect camera for me. I'd say the only downside is that I didn't expect the 60 extra grams of weight or so compared to the A7iv to be so significant. I shoot a lot of run and gun on my Tamron 28-75 G2, and my wrists can feel the weight difference versus the A7iv and my previous A7r bodies
