You get to fight old FInal fantasy bosses again. Downside side is that there are some bad glitches.

Stranger of Paradise is quite the mixed bag of a video game. It combines elements of several different games, the most notable being Dark Souls and Devil May Cry. The game manages to find a good balance on its difficulty without being too punishingly hard and frustrating. The combat is a lot of fun, the job system provides a wide variety of options for any play style. The game has a loot system that almost overwhelms you with loot with even the most pitiful monsters turning into Loot Pinata's. The bosses feel challenging without feeling impossible and taking them down and getting the big reward really feels great. Especially since the main character is such a brute and practically crushes them. The combat and gameplay are fantastic and it actually becomes rather addictive to play. Unfortunately, for as good as the gameplay is is where the praise ends. This games story is....rather bad and thrown together. It fails to explain even the most basic elements of the plot and the motivations of the characters especially Jack, the main character are not exactly clear. All you're told is that Jack really hates Chaos and wants to destroy whatever it is. It really does feel like they just slapped it together without much fun which is sad considering Final Fantasy's always been known for their deep compelling storys and layered characters. The graphics on the cut scenes are rough to say the least with many of them looking like they are Playstation 3 quality. The inventory system is honestly abysmal, with the sheer wealth of loot you end up attaining its almost overwhelming to even start sorting through it all. For all its faults Stranger of Paradise is honestly worth a playthrough just for how great the gameplay and combat are but maybe wait for this one to go on sale.

Got this game for the memes, combat was pretty decent (class system too), however wish there was more to this game & simultaneously less bloat (in-game equipment). Decent game to get on sale.

I’m honestly not sure what Square was trying to go for with this game but in my opinion it takes itself way too seriously bordering on being campy. The main character has a one-note personality through the majority of the game and doesn’t really experience much personal growth. In the end you’re left with a protagonist that leaves much to be desired. The story itself is enjoyable if you peel back the layers of bad voice acting and presentation. The graphics and performance aren’t characteristic of what Square is truly capable of. The gameplay tries to mimic the fast pace of Devil May Cry but falls over itself in attempt. The sound design is one of the only good points to this game. Enemy design is top notch as well showing off some Final Fantasy favorites that are easily recognizable. The cons, for me, outweigh the pros for this game but I can say there are things to like about it if you’re a true FF fan. There are references sprinkled throughout for fans of the original game to enjoy. If you’re looking for something to play and there’s nothing else on deck you may be considering then pick this up. If you’re a FF fan then expect to curb your expectations and try to enjoy it for what it is rather than what it isn’t.

Gameplay is fun but story is not great. Loot system is cumbersome but combat is fun.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Final Fantasy and I became a huge follower of the souls genre after Bloodborne. So to have the two blended in this release was a breath of fresh air. The gameplay is easy to get a hold of for non souls veterans and the story is your traditional final Fantasy fan fair.

It's got good bones. If you like souls-like action combat and Final Fantasy, then it's worth checking out. The best part is the action-oriented, souls-like combat. With the number of jobs and different abilities, the combat stays fresh and fun throughout. Just be prepared to sift through hundreds of equipment options. The story is serviceable, with some decent cutscenes and traditionally obtuse dialogue. Navigating the story is basically just a map with points of interest that you pick and choose to play through. While the game generally looks fairly nice overall, there are many sore spots that probably should have been improved. Overall, a good detour from the traditional mainline Final Fantasy entries and worth checking out.

Fun souls like gameplay combined with final fantasy is amazing, if you've played nioh you can expect the gameplay to be similar to that game since it was also made by team ninja, I recommend the season pass because you get a lot more content and jobs to play with

Fun fighting mechanics make up for bad dialogue and poor graphics. A fun time if your expectations are adjusted.

The gameplay is fun...they difficultly options offer a casual experience to an punishing one. Unfortunately, the three DLCs releases were locked to higher difficulty, but if you play with friend's or do matchmaking it should definitely help.

As the title says, it has similar gameplay as a Souls game. So if you want to enjoy the story, play it on easy. If you want to repeatedly get one-shot by standard enemies, or have to grind for gear all the while praying to the RNG gods? Then be like me and beat the game on hard. Then attempt Chaos mode. Excuse me while I go check for stress gray hairs.

I really enjoyed this game and it's massively slept on, mainly because it's become a meme on social media. There is a great game in here, and it doesn't take itself serious, which is refreshing. Don't sleep on this one.

Fun to play. Kinda basic. I don't agree with the use of some enemy types in certain areas. Kinda wish it was more significant and unique. More of a Final Fantasy vibe would be nice. I got it for 40 dollars.

I love the game. It is a modern take on a classic story. The new battle system is one of the best active systems I have played! I love the class system. It is in depth and expansive in a way that combines classic final fantasy classes and modern ones. The game can be difficult, but there is a difficulty setting so it can be enjoyable at multiple levels! I wnjoy difficult games so i play it at a high difficulty. This makes it feel more rewarding when I beat a boss. This is a game I will be playing for a long time between my own playthrough and playing the multiplayer with friends. With all these good things I need to say why I gave the overall rating 4 stars, and that issue is with best buy itself. I preordered this game online due to the steelbook bonus exlusive to bestbuy. The steelbook came in late causing me to come back a different day. That happens especially with supply chain issues. The problem I have was I set the order to curbside pickup allowing me to grab the game an hour early at 10am. I got my email saying the order was ready for curbside pickup so i went over at 10 am, but when I clicked the link in my email it said the order could only be picked up in store. This happened both times i went for my 2 parts of my order (the second time i went while the store was open so it was less of an issue). If there was an issue with the order, the email should have said that the order needed in store pickup.

This game is different than most from the series, although I won’t replay it, the first run through was a great experience.
