I was debating between the Suunto Traverse Alpha and the Garmin Fenix. All I really just wanted was a watch that I could save GPS locations of my trail cameras so I could remember how to get back to them (I hunt on a 10,000 acre ranch). The traverse is perfect. It is easy to save locations, the phone app works well (even with older phones, I use a Apple 5S), fits well, the battery life is great and it was considerable cheaper than the Garmin. Other things like activity tracker, email and text notifications, etc. are bonuses that I use all the time and never thought about when I bought the watch. So far I have no regrets, very happy with the purchase.

This is a mans watch! It doesn’t have a heart rate monitor as I would have liked! But it’s fairly basic and easy to use. Far more accurate than the other watch’s including the Garmin Fenix 5! The battery lasts roughly if not slightly longer than two weeks on watch mode no apps open. I haven’t fully used the gps mode but from what I hear it lasts around 4 days on Ok mode. That’s still good. Compass is great and simple. The POI works well enough. Durability of the watch is impressive. I’ve bumped it , dragged it through much mud! Rocks hit it! And my watch looks fine! The strap is great! Don’t believe everyone saying it will stink after a week so change it! No you don’t need to change it you need to wash it ! I’ve washed mine and it still Smells fine!

If rating only the hardware I give this watch 5 stars. If rating only the mobile app I give this watch 1 star or even zero stars if possible. I’ve owned (and can reliably compare) Apple watch, Fitbit, Garmin, and even the short-lived Microsoft watches, and this Suunto hardware is hands-down my favorite. The screen is large so call, text, and app messages display clearly. On the main screen I can read time, date, battery, steps, and Bluetooth connection status clearly. This watch has many unique features including compass, sun-up and sun-down, barometer, temperature, five-buttons to control functions, flashlight, and an AMAZING battery life. My ONLY complaint with hardware is the alarm which is a single on/off alarm, and I’m used to most watches offering multiple alarms. Lastly, I’ve been hard on this watch (along with all others), and its durability is the best I’ve experienced. Then there’s the mobile app, or maybe better said lack of a mobile app. The mobile app manages some watch settings such as 12/24hr, backlight, tones, units, compass, and more, but it doesn’t offer even the most simple step counter, health tracking, or exercise history. If not for managing and sending messages from your mobile device to the watch there’d be no need to have the app. If Suunto developed even a decent mobile app they’d stand out in the smartwatch arena, but they haven’t. And it doesn’t make any sense to me WHY! Today people expect two-way communication with a smartwatch, but the Suunto app only sends data to the watch and doesn't receive any data from the watch. I’ve surprised myself the decision that hardware trumps software, and have kept this watch. I had the box out to return it for several weeks, but because this is my favorite watch hardware wise it’s still with me. Darn it Suunto, develop decent mobile apps!

Great watch for outdoor activities and daily wear. Easy to use, with features that are unique to the outdoor enthusiast (shot tracker/fishing tracker) as well as the expected GPS functions.
