We purchased four of these for our NAS. Have had good luck with WD and liked that these were 7200 rpm with a 5 yr warrantee.

Got this a week ago. Came in a generic brown box, not a retail box. Supposed to be a new drive, not refurbished. I had asked BB but never got a reply prior to ordering. I assumed it was a retail package drive. Packing protection was less than stellar, as it was only wrapped in a thin bubble pouch. Opening this bag reveled it had been possibly hit hard on the corner in shipment by another package, but not really mishandled by shipper, just not packed properly for such a precision and fairly fragile item as this. Drive should have been in an outer box with padding, as most shippers do with items like this. Opening it up the drive appeared new and undamaged, so I kept it. Hooked it up a few days ago, using it in a docking station, and it seemed to work fine. Yesterday, I noticed it seemed to freeze when I copied a file to it. After I powered it down, I noticed it made a vibrating noise. I also noticed that it seems to vibrate a lot more than any other drive I've ever had, and I've had many. Drives of all different manufacturers I've had in the past all seem to be very smooth. This one is not. Today, I used it again, and it is getting more noisy. It also freezes sometimes when reading and writing to it. I have several other drives on my system, and none have these issues. Not a good sign. Maybe, just a bad unit, as I have had many WD drives and they have all been very good. Since I thought I was buying a premium drive, (red), I'm returning it for another. I'll do a follow-up on the new one to let others know.

I highly recommend these hard drives for use in file servers. They are specifically designed for heavy duty use.I've had the drive for a year and have not had any issues. Setup was easy.
