Customers are delighted by the Nighthawk Pro Gaming AD7200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router's ease of use and straightforward setup process. However, some users experienced inconsistent Wi-Fi performance and expressed a desire for faster Wi-Fi standards. The router's Wi-Fi capabilities received mixed feedback. Improvements to Wi-Fi reliability and speed would enhance the overall user experience.
I picked up the XR700 to replace my R9000, mainly for the netduma OS. Everything was set up quickly and worked perfectly... until the router was restarted. Once restarted, it suffers from SSID poisoning (like cache poisoning with a CDN) and it was impossible to connect to WiFi due to the router being unable to obtain an internet connection. I could connect to the router directly when wired, but nothing wireless would work without applying a brand new SSID; literally every time you restart the router. Having a smart home with nearly 100 smart devices, this was a nightmare having to connect to every device manually to set a new SSID. After losing several hours and nearly 24 hours with no sleep trying to fix this, a friend pointed me to numerous forums online from back in May where numerous users had the same problem where restarts meant factory reset or new SSID’s to function. Appears to be caused by firmware updates and the only true fix is to rollback to version 0.20 and miss out bug fixes and newer functionality. That was the last straw for me for a $500 device. Returned the XR700 and went back to the R9000 while I do some homework on what equivalent routers other manufacturers have.

While the router does boast some of the best hardware in the game. I find that the Firmware and the user interface can be buggy and unresponsive most often. This also brings me to my next point Duma OS has a nice "Beta" that I was lucky enough to get into for some features that this does not come standard with. They work from my experience well enough to release it to the masses. They have not released it though so the bulk of what is best about this router is actually blocked to new would be owners unless you can find the beta duma os build and install it onto the router. Great Hardware just needs some software to push it. I also use the SFP+ port to have fiber between my PC and the router bc I am autistic and knowing it is the fastest pleases me even though my WAN is a Ethernet RJ45 bc I cannot find a Cable modem that support a SFP+ port coming out of it. I know adapter exist but still not the same.

One thing with all of my nighthawks thus far. At random they will drop wifi and you will have to reset routers. This is my 3rd one and it does the same thing. Other than that great product. Can throttle back certain devices (kids) at times of day or at bandwidth. Easy to use.
