Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the Nighthawk Pro Gaming AD7200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router's ease of use and straightforward setup process. However, some users experienced inconsistent Wi-Fi performance and expressed a desire for faster Wi-Fi standards. The router's Wi-Fi capabilities received mixed feedback. Awesome product flawed by bad firmware

I picked up the XR700 to replace my R9000, mainly for the netduma OS. Everything was set up quickly and worked perfectly... until the router was restarted. Once restarted, it suffers from SSID poisoning (like cache poisoning with a CDN) and it was impossible to connect to WiFi due to the router being unable to obtain an internet connection. I could connect to the router directly when wired, but nothing wireless would work without applying a brand new SSID; literally every time you restart the router. Having a smart home with nearly 100 smart devices, this was a nightmare having to connect to every device manually to set a new SSID. After losing several hours and nearly 24 hours with no sleep trying to fix this, a friend pointed me to numerous forums online from back in May where numerous users had the same problem where restarts meant factory reset or new SSID’s to function. Appears to be caused by firmware updates and the only true fix is to rollback to version 0.20 and miss out bug fixes and newer functionality. That was the last straw for me for a $500 device. Returned the XR700 and went back to the R9000 while I do some homework on what equivalent routers other manufacturers have.

Great Hardware but lack the software to use it.

While the router does boast some of the best hardware in the game. I find that the Firmware and the user interface can be buggy and unresponsive most often. This also brings me to my next point Duma OS has a nice "Beta" that I was lucky enough to get into for some features that this does not come standard with. They work from my experience well enough to release it to the masses. They have not released it though so the bulk of what is best about this router is actually blocked to new would be owners unless you can find the beta duma os build and install it onto the router. Great Hardware just needs some software to push it. I also use the SFP+ port to have fiber between my PC and the router bc I am autistic and knowing it is the fastest pleases me even though my WAN is a Ethernet RJ45 bc I cannot find a Cable modem that support a SFP+ port coming out of it. I know adapter exist but still not the same.

One thing with all of my nighthawks thus far. At random they will drop wifi and you will have to reset routers. This is my 3rd one and it does the same thing. Other than that great product. Can throttle back certain devices (kids) at times of day or at bandwidth. Easy to use.

Although it is pricey, it delivers on all all fronts. I enjoy the ui for customization. Have always enjoyed netgear's gaming routers and this one doesn't disappoint.

This was spendy, but I would buy it again. Our wireless has many devices and this unit handles them with no issues. No more slow wireless. Great dashboard, easy setup, and comprehensive settings make it a breeze to setup and use. I have spent lots of money on several different units, and this is the only one I believe has been worth it.

Most beautiful piece of networking hardware I’ve ever purchased. Router UI makes everything accessible at my fingertips. Customize how much each device pulls in bandwidth. Prevent freeloading roommates from draining your bandwidth. Amazing.

It plays nice and the OS is amazingly simple....but off and on, these firmware updates have sabotaged its performance so deep, I thought I was operating off of my neighbors WiFi - and I was hardlined! Much respect to those Netgear reps though. My family even sent Kelley and Rayneer a Christmas card last year from all the time we’ve spent together. Dropped this piece of-

I am using the XR700 with a CM1100 cable modem and this router has been very stable for me and I have 15 wireless devices that have yet to loss there connection. I love the Plex Media Server integration and the Hybrid VPN. As far as gaming the Duma OS is very nice. The only thing this router does not have is Ethernet Port Aggregation or Link Aggregation. It would have been nice to have WiFi AX although it's still very early for that as far as device compatibility. I would defiantly recommend this product WiFi is strong and stable and easy to setup and lots of options in the routerlogin.net or Duma OS. There is even a debug page to adjust the fan settings routerlogin.net/debug.htm

    Beta Tester Review

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I received this router from Netgear to perform a eta test and post my review. Looking at the specs, the Nighthawk XR700 was the clear dominator. I expected the high class performance that it delivered when I hooked it up to my Netgear CM1000 gigabit modem and established my superspeed internet connection, but what I wasn't prepared for was the astonishingly well-crafted NetDuma operating system. Netgear had teamed up with a brilliant group of developers to collaborate on this router, and just one look at the UI of the router management portal was enough to win me over. The feature-packed menus gave me the options I needed to take total control of my home network. Every individual screen a resizable window that could be pinned to the main screen. I got deep in the thick of it and poured over the options like I had just been handed the keys to a spaceship. Customizing the dashboard was easy, and now I log into it daily just to oversee my network from the top down and to take a proud breath in that I now have the network of my dreams in my very own home.

Horrid WiFi, bad UI, and support couldn't help

I bought this router for all the gaming bells and whistles. Really bad wifi, horrid packet loss even wired , and Geo-filter would give nonstop errors, and Netgear acknowledged there was a issue. WiFi was super weak and couldn't run one 4k TV 15 feet away. After days talking to the reps on the fourms trying every different setting along with giving everything there own IP address and talking to support. This is what they emailed me days later. "I apologize for the delayed response. Going back to your case, I do apologize however this device is beyond my scope of support." Then sent a dead link, Huge dissatisfaction in this product, and with support. My Netgear R7500 ran circles around this thing.
