No, it’s not needed to play the game. You can play with the regular switch controllers, the ball is just a fun accessory to make the game a little more immersive so you feel more like you are part of the game.

No. I have talked to others who have the ball and have said they aren't even sure why they bought it. The controls of the ball do very little to add to the game and really only has value if you also play Pokemon Go as well. I use my joy cons when I play, don't see the value of having the additional, minimal controls of the ball.

Nope, the Joy Con works just fine to play.

You don’t need the bell to play it, it just makes it a little more fun as the ball will vibrate and make noises as the the pokemon are captured. Otherwise, the controllers work with the game.
