Will this pick up state police what is the range it will pick up null

I asked the person I bought the radio for. He says yes it will pick up state police. According to the specs in the owner’s manual the frequency range depends on the band. i.e., VHF low range is 25-54 MHz. VHF high range is 137-174 MHz. UHF low/T band is 300-512 MHz. UHF high is 764-1300. There are preprogrammed service searches for public safety, aircraft & ham.

so mine works perfect love the range new mexico has several repeaters i live in a small town the largest city is 120 miles both directions, i can pick up there main dispatch but not there patrol units unless there withen the local reapter . this scanner has been my favorite a little difficult programming cause of all the features.
