The Elgato 4K S capture card is capable of handling all your console recording and streaming needs. You can record up to 4K 60 FPS, which is perfect for YouTube videos. If you’re streaming on Twitch, you can play the game at your preferred resolution and frame-rate (1080p goes up to 240 FPS), while the capture card prepares it for OBS or any other software you’d be using for streaming or recording. My recommendation is to download Elgato Studio and update the firmware before you begin. I experienced a few hiccups before I did that, which was resolved with the firmware update. The captured 4K gameplay from my Xbox Series X looked very smooth and detailed. The HDR to SDR conversion looked natural and needed minimal tweaking. If needed, you can record HDR footage up to 1080P 60 FPS, but compatibility is still behind on Twitch and YouTube unfortunately, so you may prefer sticking with the on-device tonemapping for now. With the chat link pro (not included), you can also record voice chat via the audio line in. If you’re a competitor online gamer/streamer, this is a very useful addition. I’m definitely getting one. If you already have an older Elgato capture card, and you’re wondering if you should upgrade. I’ll say this, I’ve had the HD60S+ since 2020 and it still works perfectly, so I can attest that Elgato products are built to last. The 4K S will replace it from now on of course, because of the several improvements, including reduced latency, improved colors, higher resolution and frame rates, but it’s nice knowing that this capture card should last me as long as technologically necessary. I can’t imagine needing an 8K capture card anytime soon, so I’m good to go for years. I’ve used it on both my Mac Studio and Windows 11 computer, and it works great on both, although HRD10 capture seems to be Windows 11 only. I haven’t been able to test it, but it even claims to be compatible with iPads with USB-C ports, making it the perfect capture card for travel as well. If you’re a console streamer (like me), you’ll enjoy the 4K S capture card very much. Great colors and compatibility with the trusted Elgato quality makes it an easy choice for all your streaming and recording needs.

The Elgato 4K S 4K60 Capture Card is the latest entry in Elgato’s lineup of capture card devices, with this one being built specifically for content creators who want smooth, high resolution gameplay capture at 4K 60FPS. It supports HDMI 2.0 passthrough, HDR10 compatibility (on Windows), and USB-C connectivity, making it ideal for consoles like the Nintendo Switch 2 and Sony PlayStation 5 Pro. When setting up the 4K S with the consoles, I found the Nintendo Switch 2 couldn't have been easier. I connected the HDMI from the Switch 2 to the HDMI input port on the Elgato and ran the HDMI output to my monitor and the USB-C cord to my laptop. Within seconds, the signal appeared in the Elgato Studio software and automatically recognized the console. There was Low input delay or latency in passthrough mode with the help of ALLM, and the gameplay recorded in full 4K at 60 frames per second. Even without tinkering in the settings, it just worked right out of the box, which is exactly what you’d hope for when setting up new hardware. The image quality was crisp, colors were vibrant, and motion felt natural perfect for streaming or recording high quality gameplay footage. That being said things didn’t go as smoothly with the PlayStation 5 Pro. After connecting the console in the same way, the capture card displayed no signal at all. Same with my monitor, no signal. I checked the cables, ports, and settings multiple times in the Elgato Studio software, but nothing seemed to fix the issue. Unfortunately, Elgato’s official help page didn’t provide any useful troubleshooting steps for the PS5 Pro, and searching through their documentation only led to generic HDMI setup advice. It wasn’t until I checked on a Reddit thread that I discovered the real problem. If the PS5 Pro has Dolby Vision HDR turned on the Elgato 4K S does not support it and has to be turned off in the PS5 video settings. The capture card only works when it's turned off, so when Dolby Vision is active, it won’t detect a signal at all. After turning off Dolby Vision in the PS5’s video settings, the signal appeared instantly, and everything worked perfectly. Once configured properly, the 4K S captured gameplay at 4K60 with no visible delay. The image quality was excellent, but it was frustrating that Elgato didn’t mention this common issue anywhere in their official support materials. NOTE: If you want to capture voice chat audio you will need to get the Elgato chat link pro. In daily use, the Elgato 4K S performs exactly as advertised once properly configured. Recording from the Switch 2 or PS5 Pro produces detailed, smooth footage, and passthrough gameplay feels like you are playing directly from the console output. Just know that recording in 4K the file sizes will be larger, so make sure you have plenty of storage when recording. I was also able to use it with the OBS app for live streaming and it worked perfectly. Just know that you will not be able to stream in 4K, which is expected, but some might think you will be able to stream live in 4K. This is not the case because of the bandwidth limitations. Pros: Excellent 4K 60 FPS capture and passthrough quality ALLM Low input latency while playing Simple, plug-and-play setup with devices like the Nintendo Switch 2 Compact and premium design with a clean USB-C interface Compatibility with streaming software like OBS Cons: No support for Dolby Vision , causing signal issues with the PS5 Pro Limited and unclear official troubleshooting documentation Can be frustrating for users who expect instant compatibility Overall, the Elgato 4K S 4K60 Capture Card is a good device for capturing your console gameplay that delivers good performance. It excels with the Nintendo Switch 2, offering plug and play simplicity, but struggles with the PlayStation 5 Pro until Dolby Vision is disabled. The end result is good once set up properly, but the troubleshooting experience could be much smoother if Elgato provided clearer guidance on HDR format compatibility out of the box. In the end it gets the job done, just know there are some growing pains with it for the higher end consoles.

My son is a U.S. Navy Nuclear Engineer and an avid gamer. Needless to say, after months under the ocean on the submarine, when he back on-shore , he passes away a great deal of time gaming. So when the chance came up to grab this Corsair Elgato 4k S Capture Card, I jumped on it. He was glad I did as he loves to record and stream his gaming on-line. In the box, you will find the Corsair Elgato 4k S Capture Card, HDMI 2.0 cord, and a USB C to C cord. This Elgato 4KS has a quality feel and a fairly small foot print. The cord also have a solid, quality feel. With what's included, setup up is quick as it is simple. You can be open the box to fully in use in an easy 10 minutes, and that will include the time to get a fresh beer. From a techy standpoint, here are some highlights: *Records with 4K 60 resolution *Plug-and-play with the included USB-C and HDMI 2.0 cords *HDR10 passthrough up to 4K60; HDR capture supported up to 1080p60 *VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support *Ultra-wide resolution, ujp to 3440×1440 & 2560×1080) *High frame rate passthrough@ 1080p 240 End of the day, this is an excellent choice if you have the need. I would, (and have) reccomend to a friend.

I wanted to check and see if this would work with more than just consoles. Why? Putting together a video of a how to is easier with a capture card. First, lets go through the setup with a console, or any device with HDMI out. 1. Install Elgato Studio from Elgato web site on your PC 2. connect the HDMI cable from your console (or any device that can send to HDMI out) to the HDMI IN port on the 4K S 3. connect USB type C from the 4K S to your PC 4. if you have an external monitor/TV connect the HDMI OUT to your display 5. power up your device, the 4K S gets power through the USB type C from your PC I have tried this with a Windows laptop, a Chromebook, Android tablet and a Pixel 10 without any need for an external monitor. I have also tested connected to my consoles (PS5, Switch 2) and there was no degraded video. It passes 4K video with no noticeable difference. I am attaching a video from the Pixel of my Monopoly Go inventory to show how well that worked. The only thing I needed for my phone was USB type C to HDMI adapter or cable. I have both and both worked well. The setup and software is as easy as it gets. Now I just need to get better at my video edits. If you are looking to capture video from almost anywhere, this is an excellent solution.

What got me excited I’ve always wanted to have a capture card so I could make some commentary on some older classics. I knew the name Elgato, and the brand recognition it brought. What I’m expecting My expectations are to be able to plug it into a gaming console and save the footage so I can edit the footage with some voiceover narration. What’s included in the packaging? Out of the box you get the capture card, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and a HMDI 3.0 cable. My first impressions The card is small and compact. It’s lightweight, and doesn’t have any physical buttons. I like the bundled cables. I was surprised there wasn’t a quick start guide included. Instead you get a 4-step “how to plug everything in” sequence on the interior of the packaging. Let’s try it out I plugged the provided HDMI cable to the “out” port, and to a monitor. I plugged a separate HDMI cable to the “in” port and to my console. I finally plugged in the provided USB-C cable to my laptop. Blue light came on and…. Nothing. I overlooked the part where I was supposed to go to the website printed on the last part of the sequence to download the companion app that showed what I was capturing. So after I downloaded Elgato Studio, something finally popped up. The app shows a mirror of what’s playing on the monitor. You click the little red record button and off you go. There wasn’t any lag, and it captured the audio as well. I was in fact surprised that there wasn’t any lag, despite a prompt telling me to plug in the provided HDMI 3.0 cable; which was in fact plugged in. I guess it meant use a 3.0 cable to connect to the console. If that’s the case, it would have been nice if two 3.0 cables were included in the packaging. The app is very easy to use and straightforward. Once you’re done recording, the video/audio is saved as a mp4 file. What stood out that was positive I like how easy it is to use, both the card, and the app. You record, and it creates a file, simple. What stood out that was negative Not including two HDMI 3.0 cables. Who is this targeted at? This is clearly aimed a gamers. I like playing “classic” games, and so this allows me to create videos of older games that I can upload. All in all This is a great capture card. I wish it did 4k at 120hz. I like the fact that it at least does 1440 at 120 hz. I would recommend this to anybody who wants to create some fun gaming videos for memories or to upload them.

I use this mainly for my gaming and streaming setup on PS5 and PC, and it’s been excellent. The performance is smooth, response time is fast, and the connection stays stable even during long gaming sessions. I noticed better overall consistency while streaming and playing competitive games like Call of Duty. Setup was quick and easy, and the device has been reliable without overheating or disconnecting. Definitely a great addition for anyone serious about gaming, streaming, or wanting a cleaner setup.

I picked up the Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+ recently because I wanted to capture high-quality gameplay from my PS5 without always having to be tethered to my PC, and honestly, this device has exceeded my expectations. It is exactly what I needed for a streamlined setup. My Experience & What I Liked: Standalone Recording is a Game Changer: This is easily my favorite feature. Being able to just plug in an SD card and hit record without needing to boot up a computer or mess with OBS is incredible. It makes capturing spontaneous gaming moments so much easier. I can take it to a friend's house and record 4K footage instantly. Incredible Picture Quality: The footage comes out crisp and professional. I was worried that recording to an SD card might compress the quality, but the 4K HDR captures are stunning. The colors are vibrant, and the 60fps is buttery smooth. It handles the PS5's output perfectly. Zero-Latency Passthrough: One of my biggest gripes with older capture cards was input lag on my monitor. With the 4K60 S+, the passthrough is flawless. I don't feel any delay while playing, which is crucial for the fast-paced shooters I play. Ease of Use: Setting it up was plug-and-play. The device is smart enough to automatically adjust settings to get the best picture, so I didn't have to spend hours tweaking bitrates. Final Thoughts: If you are looking for a capture card that offers professional 4K quality with the flexibility of recording without a PC, the 4K60 S+ is unmatched. It’s a premium piece of kit that has completely simplified my content creation workflow. Highly recommended!

The Elgato 4K S delivers exactly what it promises—clean, reliable capture with incredibly low latency. I’ve been using it for PS5 and PC gameplay, and the 4K60 passthrough looks fantastic. Even when dropping to 1440p120 or 1080p240 for certain titles, everything stays smooth with no noticeable delay. Setup was very simple; it worked right away with my streaming software on both PC and Mac. The compact size is a nice bonus, making it easy to move between devices, including my iPad for quick recording sessions. If you’re looking for high-quality capture without any headaches, this is a great choice. Totally worth it.

The Elgato 4K S is a 4K 60 FPS capture card for multiple systems. It’s a great compact-size capture card and it comes with high quality USB-C and HDMI cables. The software is downloadable from Elgato’s site and installation is easy enough. The HDMI input works fine with Nintendo Switch 2, and the connection was firm and stable. The passthrough function allows video output to a TV while simultaneously watching the same video feed on a PC monitor. Videos are smooth with virtually no discernible input lags. The viewing software has a clean UI and looks neat, which enables users to easily record gameplay clips. At the maximum resolution of 4K 60 FPS, the capture card may not be the best option for machines that can run beyond 60 FPS. Aside from Nintendo Switch 2, I’ve been trying to connect it to my PS 5 slim, which I did so unsuccessfully. It’s probably the input video setting on PS 5, which I don’t really care enough to fiddle with. Now onto the video recording. The capture card will automatically match the resolution and frame rate settings of the input video source. So, the video recording I got from playing Nintendo Switch 2 games was 1080P. The capture card records both video and audio and the recording quality was excellent. Thanks to its small form factor, playing console games on a laptop's screen is convenient.

[Employee of bestbuy] Overall very easy to setup and it is absolutely fantastic as a capture card. I would go to this if you are a content creator that is either trying to capture your ps5, xbox, switch, or whatever else you are trying to capture to record and stream. They make it very easy to setup with the elgato studio which you can also stream out of itself. The only downside is that there is a 1ms delay from the capture, so if you are trying to stream and use elgato studio to play your games, it might be a little iffy, but if you get another monitor or something to pretty much play your game on you'll be able to connect it with the output hdmi port in the back and be good to go. The sound quality on the otherhand is immaculate and everything works amazingly. Doesn't get too hot at all, and quality is outstanding.

As a part time content creator (Twitch Payouts are terrible lately), I needed a new capture device so I can showcase my sub-par LoZ skills (my community loves putting me through challenges in that game). With the release of the Switch 2, I knew I needed something that could capture the crisp details of a Talus throwing my rag body 30 meters away, or a Lynel chasing me down like I was a Charizard card in the hands of a 4 year old. This capture card does not fail to deliver; there is no motion blur, no lag, no stuttering, and no frames dropped. Truly worth every penny.

I’ve been using the Elgato 4K S for a few weeks and it’s been great so far. Setup was simple, and the passthrough quality at 4K60 is super clean with no noticeable delay. I’ve tested it with my PS5 and Switch 2, and both work flawlessly. The capture quality at higher frame rates (like 1080p240) is also really solid. It’s compact, doesn’t heat up too much, and works well on both my PC and Mac. Overall, a reliable capture device that does exactly what it’s supposed to.

This capture card has been a great upgrade for my setup. It really is plug-and-play: my Switch 2 was recognized instantly, and I was recording 4K60 footage within minutes using OBS with no driver hassles. The passthrough feels basically lag-free, so gameplay is smooth and responsive while still getting clean recordings, and the image quality at 4K and 1440p120 looks sharp and vibrant.
