Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the high quality of the three included games, frequently citing the nostalgic appeal and overall value as significant positives. Many also enjoy the fun factor and portability of the collection. However, some users point to control and camera issues as potential drawbacks, along with a feeling that the games are not significantly enhanced from their original versions.

Revisiting these three classic Nintendo titles has been so much fun so far. While the UI outside of the titles of minimal, that’s fine because you only briefly see it when starting the game or switching between titles. It looks good and functions well. Super Mario 64 looks better than the original, but worse than the DS version… I suppose it makes sense to take the original version for this, but the graphics from the DS remaster would have been preferable. Also, I don’t remember the controls being this finicky on either the 64 or the DS, and it makes certain actions pretty difficult especially when requiring some level of precision movement. Super Mario Sunshine looks, feels, and runs well. The same could be said about the controls, although significantly less so. Navigating here is easier for sure. It performs well and looks slightly better than the original. Super Mario Galaxy is a real treat here. While elements have been changed to work with the Switch’s input method — star bit collection is definitely different, but it needs to be. I do find myself flinging away star bits when I try to do a long jump, because it’s the main right trigger and I instinctively expect that to be the crouch key. (I haven’t looked yet to see if that can be remapped) Aside from that minor annoyance, this game is great and I’m having so much fun replaying it. While all three titles in this set are great, it really does highlight how much better these games became with time. All three are great fun and recapture the nostalgia of their originals on the consoles they launched on, but with slightly improved graphics and the flexibility that the Switch offers. (I’ve played almost everything so far in docked mode, with a Pro Controller) If you really enjoy 3D Mario platformers, especially if you’ve played these titles before and miss them, I highly recommend this title for you. It’s dozens of hours of fun for sure.

Despite the camera controls these are some of the best games ever made. Also, some little touch ups wouldve been nice like how saves work and starting up and exiting games could be easier. They also removed a voice line which kinda bummed me out but it's not a huge deal and I kinda understand why they did it. $60 seems steep for such old games but between 3 amazing games and a soundtrack I think it's money well spent. All in all I'm stoked to play these classics on my switch.

Really enjoying this package of games so far. Awesome nostalgia, looks good on my tv, great perk to be able to just pick up the Switch and play all over the house or outside. $60 works out to $20/game, which is more than fair for three legitimate masterpieces. Bring on a Legend of Zelda version!

Alright, let’s talk about the cons first. Mario 64 is the worse as far as upgrade goes. It’s not full screen, it’s the shindou version (without Wario or Yoshi), camera control is just awful ( your stuck at certain angles) and there’s no remaster or remake of it at all - all polygon. Pros are the touch up for what they are are way better than the 64 or DS version. It’s nostalgia at its finest. Great game and this where Mario started it all in his 3D adventures. Sunshine and Galaxy are beautiful. Galaxy can almost pass for a new 2020 game for the switch. I’m still exploring both these games and having a blast!!! If you played the originals, for sunshine there’s no analog so that gets getting use to as well as camera controls are inverted. Galaxy is the best! Recalibrating the control to the screen can get annoying compared to the Wii version but man... this 3D all star game is must in anybody’s Nintendo Switch collection! Get it before March 31st 2021!!! After that it’s gone and back in the Nintendo Vault.

Having only played a little of Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy - and no Mario Sunshine - this was a good buy for me. They could have done more in terms of additional content - but it's worth the $60 price tag if you haven't played them before or just want them all handy on the switch.

This collection was something I immediately preordered as soon as I saw it was announced! 64 was my ultimate favorite so having it permanently in my collection was something I could not pass up! The graphics are a kick back to HD 64 and past consoles for the other two, if that makes sense... it’s not in odessey graphics like many hoped BUT, the charm of the originals is mostly there. It should provide hours upon hours of fun Don’t pass this limited collection up if your a veteran or just like Mario or just curious if past games, give this a try!

This is one of the best game collections of all time. It definitely gives a lot of nostalgia to earlier Mario games and it brought back a lot of memories! It's disappointing though that Nintendo no longer is making this game. Glad I bought one before!

Finally, a way to play these three classics on newer software! While there may not be many features, it is still great to have these three games readily available for people to play and experience, whether for the first time or just revisiting them.

Lots of nostalgia loading up Mario 64, the controls are a bit dated now so that's a little annoying but its still fun. Never played sunshine or galaxy so it's perfect for me and with the time I've spent on both of those so far I'm having a blast. Definitely recommend.

There are few games that bring nostalgia back like the Mario series. Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy hold up great, but 64’s controls are, as usual, a little wonky. Tip for gaming: use the joycons disconnected from the system for Mario Galaxy for maximum impact.

There are little to no graphical improvements on any of these games outside of a higher resolution, but that's completely okay. This is a collection of ports from various older Nintendo consoles brought to the switch. All three games run very well with no noticeable problems or errors, but I wish the option to adjust controls was included, as some of these control schemes are admittedly dated. Super Mario Sunshine is one of my favorite games and probably one of the most neglected of the 3D Mario games, so I'm very happy to see it come back to a modern console. If you like Mario at all, this is a very powerful and fun triple pack, all on one cartridge. Did I mention that each game comes with its soundtrack that you can listen to separately? Awesome touch! The only other extras I would've liked to see is maybe some concept art.

    What’s old is new

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is, at its core, a great collection of great games. For what it is and for $60, this is among the best value you can get for a video game. As someone who has extensively played all three of the games featured in the collection on original hardware, I can confidently say that all three games play as well as they ever did and look better than they ever have. Some may be quick to point out the lack of extra content or the absence of Galaxy 2, but I still think that this game is certainly worth your time and money. If you’ve played the games before, having them on handheld and with updated graphics is great. If you’re new to the games, then you’ll find yourself with three classics that have (mostly) aged quite well. Overall, Super Mario 3D All-Stars is worth it for the vast amount of quality it brings to the table.

These are all classic games. Mario 64 feels a bit more dated than the others, and really could have benefited from a true remaster to the controls, and camera. But, you are getting 3 Masterpiece games. Stop reading and buy the game.

The collection is good. The downside is that Mario 64 isn't really as updated as I hoped but it is still a good game. Super Mario Sunshine is still good and frustrating as ever. The controls on Super Mario Galaxy and the camera are not as good in certain areas. Super Mario Galaxy is the still one of my favorite games and still holds itself up pretty well.

This was something I had been waiting for since my old GameCube disk became too scratched to play. Buy it before they no longer sale it. I love Super Mario Sunshine, hands down my favorite Mario game. Although the Switch has slightly different controls, the game was still perfect and handled well. They upscaled the graphics so the games play well on modern TVs, they did not reskin the games. They look just like they did when they came out, just now one can use HDMI. If you are young and these games predate you, they are a blast and worth it. If you are older and remember even one of these, they are fantastic and may bring back some childhood joy. I beat Mario Sunshine 14 times as a kid and beating it this 15th time was incredible.
