A big improvement over last years 2016 J3 model

I just bought the J3 Emerge with Virgin Mobile today and I totally absolutely love it. I am coming from the LG Stylo 2 same carrier. And I love the J3 Emerge far more. Now for all you tech savvy people out there here's some awesome specs for you that maybe the Best Buy website doesn't have listed: a 5 inch 720p HD display NOT an Amoled display. Comes with a 1.4 GHZ Snapdragon 430 processor Adreno 308 @598MHZ. Can take up to a 256GB sdcard. has 1.5GB of ram. Duel band Wi-Fi (2.4/5.0Ghz). 5MP rear cam w/1080p 30FPS video recording with flash. 2MP front facing cam w/ 720p 30FPS video recording. Comes with 16GB of internal memory. About 10GB of storage out of the box. Roughly 8-9GB of available storage after you update all the apps. 9.2GB for me because I don't need all the apps. VERY LITTLE bloatware. Call quality is outstanding id give that an easy 8.5-9 out of 10. Better than my LG Stylo 2. 5MP camera quality? absolutely amazing. Doesn't auto focus a lot but the quality itself is amazing. 1080p recording? I loved it. Sound quality with the video? OMG I LOVED it. And the phone actually has some weight to it after you put in the 2,600 mAh battery. Battery is amazing no problems there. OH and the Galaxy J3 Emerge comes with its own cleaning system under Device Management in the Settings (settings are different this time around. Its not in different sections now its just one semi long vertigo listing and each setting has their own settings within them. Its a pretty cool way Samsung did the Settings in this phone) you can check the Ram how much internal storage you have and Battery usage and theres other things under each of those. Pretty cool. Now I love this phone so much even though its only day 1 for me but I also did a review of this phone on my YouTube channel GTX Gaming & Reviews. Check out the review for more details.OH and btw NO lagging OR stuttering and NO crashes. The Snapdragon 430 with the 1.4GHZ processor has been supper snappy and it hasn't given me ANY issues. Anyways hope this somewhat of a review helps.

as always, before purchasing a device, I did my homework, read reviews here, elsewhere, even watched a few youtube video reviews, and made the decision to pull the trigger when this device came on sale. a snappy fast phone, gets a signal darn near anywhere, and..unlike my last phone(an LG) I actually get my texts within a minute of my contacts sending them, and I can actually take calls indoors. the..off placement of the speaker is hardly conventional, but, and I was honestly surprised at this, the speaker puts out some pretty good quality audio, wouldnt have expected that of a dinky speaker either.. the front facing camera is a bit..wonky but what do you expect from a 5mp camera? experienced photo buffs however should be able to get decent use out of this. the rear facing 2mp camera...is pretty much the only real failing of this phone. the baffling part...is play movies offering me hd downloads on a 5 inch display, where I wouldnt really receive much benefit of said hd content, though I will comment that the phone plays my movies without question, complaint, nor the slightest hint of a stutter, a real surprise, and one that actually prompted me to yank my class u1 memory card from my flaky tablet..best move I ever made. the screen is smooth and responsive, the device light in hand, feels real light, and can get really super bright when set to outdoor mode. it has a flash which doubles as a flashlight, always good to see on a mobile phone. the other minor cavet and one that ALMOST saw me returning to the store for help...was the back cover. it does NOT want to come off, which made me think I might perhaps need help with the battery installation. so, for perspective buyers, this is NOT a defect, though it is definitely concerning. it pairs so readily with my memorex bluetooth headphones it isnt even funny, and the audio quality is superb, no hint of any signal breakup...I went 30 feet away, down the hall to my bedroom with the headphones on, forgot I left the phone on the dining room table, and the phone kept pumping my music without so much as a hint of a complaint. I would recommend screen protection of some kind for this device as a general rule of thumb. all in all, I am VERY pleased with this device.

Of all the Virgin Mobile phones on the market, this seemed to be the best value. Before buying, I researched all the phones, reading reviews, looking for problems, and educating myself on the processors. This phone uses the Qualcomm MSM8917 (Snapdragon 425), which is one of the newer chips in a virgin mobile phone. Before this, I bought the J6, but had to return it due to severe overheating. This one is a good deal, but there are a few issues. First, I can't use voice text. When I do, it repeats itself over and over, changing the words down the line like a bad re-translation. This sucks, because I've always relied heavily on voice text. I can't find a fix. Second, I hate how I can't turn off the shutter sound when I take a picture. This seems to be a Samsung thing in general, as I have never had this problem on an LG. And finally, (and this is not really a problem, per se, as an adjustment on my part), I feel that Samsung over-complicates things. For example, I can't pick and choose which notifications sounds to recieve. Well, I can...but in a back-door-fix kind of way. I need to hear texts when I'm sleeping, because my daughter is in school early, and sometimes texts me in the morning, if she misses the bus, or is sick, etc. But I don't need to hear every email and other notification. But in the settings, it is really just on or off. To customize it took forever to figure out. I had to put my phone in do not disturb mode and then customize from there. It just seems not as straight forward or user friendly in some ways. Other than those issue, great phone. But I think next time, I'll go back to LG.

I've always had Virgin Mobile as my carrier and I prefer their simple approach to cell phone ownership. In the past I've always had flip phones & decided to finally get a smart phone. I love apple products, but honestly, their smart phones are just too darn expensive! The phone seems fine so far! Price was good, it's loud enough to hear conversations clearly [this used to be an issue with the flip phones] and it comes with a bunch of intriguing apps. It uses the same mircoconnector as my old flip phone to charge up so it's nice that those cables are not obsolete. Charges up very quickly. I had a few issues getting set up on the Samsung web site [so I gave up on it] but it's really not an issue; I'm primarily going to use this thing as a phone [I prefer my macbook air for the other stuff]. So far so good; seem's like a nice phone. When my wife's flip phone dies, I'll probably get her one too.

My LG K3 was running out of memory (8 gig). Needed a phone w/a geomagnetic sensor so it could run a compass app. I'm not a big app user but after I loaded it full I still have about 7 GB remaining. It's lightweight, with a nice size screen, but not so big it won't fit into small pockets. Only downside I've found has to do with 2 apps. The Voice-to-Text app on the Samsung keyboard does not work. Fortunately it works on the GBoard (pre-installed). Also, if you want ability to toggle the data radio on and off - to save power - you'll have do download the Quick Settings app from Playstore. And the only disappointment about the camera is that the app is not programmed to shoot from a voice command i.e. "cheese."

having issues with voice to text and notifications

I don't get all text notifications all the time, but I certainly get every other notification all night long, keeping me awake. Can't find a way to pick and choose which notifications to keep silent at night, yet keep others on. Also, (and this is a major issue for me) my voice-to-text repeats itself, even changing the words down the line. I can't find a solution to this. Samsung seems to overly complicate things that should be self-explanatory, requiring a lot of headaches. Like, my text window has to be completely closed to get a notification chime when I get a new text. Returning this, and going back to LG.

I've always had an android phone, dogged chewed up one so my daughter gave me her old iPhone, I5. I really liked the size of it! But this phone isn't bad, little bigger. And I still do prefer Android over Iphones. Being with Virgin mobile, the selection of phones seems pretty limited. But no way am I paying $700 for a phone, like my wife and kids and going with Verizon. Maybe Verizon is better, but not too much better in my opinion to offset price! Would recommend this phone thus far, I've had it just over a month.

I like this phone, but if I had to do it again I would buy the 2016 model, as the volume is different on this phone in regards to the ringtone and alarm clock, making it hard to hear. Speaker volume for calls is good. I like the camera, and the camera can be launched quickly by tapping the home button twice, which is nice for quick shots. This phone gives me trouble synching to my Fitbit at times, I usually have to restart the Bluetooth every time I want to sync. Compared to other phones on the market, I would buy this one again, but if they had the 2016 model available, I would get that one
