The reason I purchased this was that I had just taken a new job and needed an additional back for my Mac. I never use the software provided by WD, I reformat for my needs only, great drive and its fast.

5 terabytes for $129, "Hard to believe". I have an external drive that I bought 5 years or so ago and it will store 128 gigabytes. I paid about $60 or $70 dollars for it. After buying this 5 terabyte Book drive, I calculated how many of the 128 gigabyte drives it would take to equal 5 terabytes and then multiplied that figure times the cost of the 128 gigabyte drive. The answer is that it would cost approx $3600 to have 5 terabytes of data contained in drives that are 128 gigabyte's in size. So 5 terabytes at $129 is equal to an expenditure of $3600 if I bought enough 128 gigabyte drives to equal just one 5 terabyte "Book" drive.

This is a great product. I previously owned a Toshiba 5TB and this is much quieter with seamless data transfer. The dimensions are similar but this device performs better. Works well with both Windows and Mac with the best backup and data security software I have used. The size is .... it's a beast but overall, very pleased with it.

Customers enjoy the ample storage space and ease of use of the My Book 5TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive. The drive's reliability and price point are also frequently praised, along with its fast USB 3.0 transfer speeds and quiet operation. While some users found the included software less intuitive, the positive feedback on other features outweighs this concern.
