The reason I purchased this was that I had just taken a new job and needed an additional back for my Mac. I never use the software provided by WD, I reformat for my needs only, great drive and its fast.

5 terabytes for $129, "Hard to believe". I have an external drive that I bought 5 years or so ago and it will store 128 gigabytes. I paid about $60 or $70 dollars for it.
After buying this 5 terabyte Book drive, I calculated how many of the 128 gigabyte drives it would take to equal 5 terabytes and then multiplied that figure times the cost of the 128 gigabyte drive.
The answer is that it would cost approx $3600 to have 5 terabytes of data contained in drives that are 128 gigabyte's in size.
So 5 terabytes at $129 is equal to an expenditure of $3600 if I bought enough 128 gigabyte drives to equal just one 5 terabyte "Book" drive.

This is a great product. I previously owned a Toshiba 5TB and this is much quieter with seamless data transfer. The dimensions are similar but this device performs better. Works well with both Windows and Mac with the best backup and data security software I have used. The size is .... it's a beast but overall, very pleased with it.

Although I bought this as a gift and I'm not using it personally, I have good feedback from the person to whom I gave it, who is a computer geek. He is confident in the WD brand, as is especially happy that this hard drive has the ability to serve as a centralized storage unit, being plugged directly into his wireless router to allow access from any capable device in the house. I thought $120 for a 5TB USB 3 hard drive was a good value.

This large capacity drive used with a high data-rate pc can save you from a catastrophic data failure. I use it for backing up a new pc with a 0.5 TB SSD and a 4 TB data drive. I have never had a backup drive failure, but I have had several eide and sata drives fail. I do high resolution photography and convert and save older family and institutional movies. Reliability is essential for me. This drive is very fast even for a USB 3.0 device.

Best Hard Drive for the Xbox 1!

This hard drive is great! Best storage hard drive for a really good price (109.99 at the time I purchased). For those looking for a hard drive to expand their storage, this is what you'll need! Not only does it have storage, it is made by a company I trust completely for their superior products.
My Usage:
I mainly use this for the Xbox 1. The internal 500gb hard drive isn't enough to store all your games in. Finding which games to delete is the thing in the past for me. It really gets annoying on choosing which to delete and which to save. After buying this hard drive, i don't have this problem anymore and I install all my games with their updates. After installing all all the games and gold free games, I still have 3.9 TB of space left. That's freakin Insane!
Pros:
-Games and Applications run faster than being stored on the internal drive for Xbox 1
-Durable case that keeps the hard drive enclosed
-Massive space is insane!
Cons:
-It needs to be plugged into an outlet to power on
-The LEDs inside the casing can be too bright if not positioned right.
-No power off switch
-The design of the case could be a little better
Final thoughts:
I had this hard drive for almost a month and it's still going strong. I will do an update if anything comes up. For anyone looking for a hard drive to increase space either on your X1, PC, or WiiU, I highly recommend this product!

Massive external HDD, perfect for XBox One

I bought this massive HDD as extra storage for my XBox One, as I had already filled up the 500GB HDD that came with it (only 320GB usuable, of course). Setup was super simple: with my XBox One on, I went to Settings, then System, and finally Manage Storage. Then I plugged in the HDD and voila, the XBox One automatically detected it. I followed the onscreen prompts to format it (took about 4 seconds) and then I was ready to go. I moved all 320GB of data from my XBox One to the drive in about an hour and set it so that all future games are downloaded directly to the external drive. Most of my games actually load slightly faster now, but only by a second or two... it's not really noticeable unless you're timing it. But seeing "4.5TB free space" on my XBox screen is pretty awesome -- I feel well prepared for whatever games the future throws at me!

I am a professional photographer so I have a great need for reliable hard drives that have a lot of storage. This is my 6th WD drive that I have purchased and it's the same quality that I've come to know from this company. Super easy, plug and play.

I purchased this external hard drive to link to my son's X Box one for storage. The price was phenomenal for the amount of space available on the drive which was the primary reason for my purchase. The unit was VERY easy to connect to the Xbox and the functionality between the two units is seamless. This is an incredible buy from Best Buy!

This is a fantastic external hard drive. I am only using it for backups of my computer. Total backups system files, programs, and everything else. I learned the hard way that I need an external drive for a back up that is connected to the computer itself.I had a networked server with the back up of my computer but I forgot the username and password so I did not have a back up. When there was a install of the new OS it messed up the computer so I lost everything when I had to reload the whole computer. With this I will never have this happen again! I trust WD drives they are the only drives I will buy.

I'm using it to increase space on my Xbox one. No issues setting it up on the Xbox one and it helps load up the games quicker.
I've had other WD storage devices and I've always been happy with them (using them for backups for computers and putting videos on them to watch on my tv via usb, etc.)
If you're on the fence about this don't be. WD has a good name to it and you'll be happy to spend the extra money on the 5tb in the long run especially if you're using it for the Xbox one or just a media storage device.
Several months in and no issues.

This is the first 5 Terabyte hard drive I've purchased and it works great. I plugged it in, connected it to my computer and haven't looked back. I got it on sale at a very good price and am very pleased with this purchase. They say that it is a question of when, not if, a hard drive will fail. I bought a 320 Gigabyte hard drive seven years ago from Best Buy and it cost about as much as this one. It is a WD and I haven't had a lick of problems yet. It will die some day but now I have plenty of storage to save the files on it.

My 3TB Seagate Drive Died :(

What good is a backup drive if your backup drive fails? Well! Good by Seagate and hello Western Digital. WD comes with Acronis Lite and a special deal for $13.99 to get cloud service backup for a year from Acronis. Best Buy had the bestest price on the NET too. Costco was selling the Seagate same size drive for the same price so that tells you Best Buy is willing to go toe to toe with the big box retailers. Bottom line is it does what it's supposed to do.

I wanted to backup my favorite movies and this drive will hold about 600 of them. I like to watch my movies on computers that do not integrate a DVD drive, so I put them on thumb drives. Now I rip the DVD once and can load it on a thumb drive whenever I want it. I first thought I could store them only on thumb drives, but that turned out to be impractical when I realized how many devices would be required. The 5TB drive is fast even on a USB 2.0 port.

I recently purchased this 5 TB drive to add to my ever-expanding hard drive collection, and it's a winner. The speed of access is just fine for my needs - it's USB 3.0 compatible, but all I have are USB 2.0 ports. It's still pretty speedy even on my USB 2.0 port. So far this one and my other WD drive are still going strong with no read or write errors. That's about all you can ask for from a hard drive.
