Bose® SoundTouch® 10 Wireless Music System: The SoundTouch® 10 wireless music system is the easiest way to play music throughout your home. Plus, it's so small, you can place it just about anywhere to stream millions of songs from music services, Internet radio stations and your stored music library - all with full, rich sound. You can even play your favorite music instantly, without a phone or tablet. Simply press one of six presets on the speaker or remote, and the music starts.
Bose's response to the SONOS PLAY: 1
Posted by: AaronG from: on
First let me just say that this is one of the first Bose products that I've actually owned. Having not really used their brand I was curious upon hearing about their new line of SoundTouch devices. I came from a family that was mainly with SONOS from the beginning and while I can say that for the most part SONOS is probably one of the best sounding speaker brands you could ask for, I did have minor annoyances with it from time to time.
I recently moved away from my home and into an apartment and although I did like how SONOS hooked up to my Wi-Fi I still would have a dedicated speaker for just bluetooth devices. So since the SONOS speakers stayed with my family I had to ask myself the question of whether or not I would purchase a SONOS for my apartment or if I would give a different speaker a shot. The biggest factors for me, was that like SONOS there was a dedicated Bose app that can be accessed from my phone and tablet (which I really like) and based on other reviews I had read I knew that the sound would be very similar as well. The price point was the exact same to the PLAY: 1 which was nice, but the biggest reason that intrigued me was that the SoundTouch devices also supported simple bluetooth pairing which was a feature that I really wished SONOS would have included from the beginning.
WHAT IS IT?: The Bose SoundTouch 10, part of Bose's new line of speakers that in certain aspects could almost be comparable to the SONOS PLAY: 1. With the same price range, similar sizes, and fantastic balance of highs and lows. It would almost appear that Bose is trying to win over people and take over a portion of the SONOS market.
WHY DOES IT MATTER?: The biggest thing that the SoundTouch series has going for it when comparing it to SONOS is that this also supports normal bluetooth pairing!
WHAT'S IN THE BOX?: The SoundTouch 10 system, power cable, USB cable, and remote.
DESIGN: While I do feel as though there are better designs out there, this is not bad by any means. It's a very simple, clean look, that overall doesn't really draw too much attention to itself. This can be a good thing if you were looking for a nice speaker that would blend in with everything else in the room and not really stand out.
PERFORMANCE: I basically have been using this constantly for the past couple weeks and I am really impressed with the sound! I like that it can be programmed with six different presets (Spotify, iTunes, Pandora, iHeartRADIO, etc.) and because it has Wi-Fi it can seemlessly play your internet stations just by pressing the correct preset button that you set it to.
FINAL SCORE: 5 / 5
I really can't complain. The SoundTouch 10 provides just the right amount of sound for my studio apartment. And when I move to a bigger place eventually, I plan to either get another 10 or maybe a 20 or 30 to expand throughout different rooms. The fact that this speaker line is also expandable too makes it even better since you can start with just one and add more of them as you go.
If you're on the fence about it, just bite the bullet and dive in. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with what you hear.

Great sound for size

Overall the size is small but the sound fills the room well. The buttons on top help with customized presets so I don't need a device in order to play a station I love

Great Speaker But No Apple Music
Posted by: LoSo from: on
I Love this speaker, I love how BOSE lets you preset all of your stations, I love the fact it comes with a remote so you don't need your phone. The only problem is It don't support APPLE MUSIC, because of this I'm thinking about return this and getting the SONOs speaker. I hate to return the speaker but I use mostly use APPLE MUSIC more than any other streaming services

super cool speaker

I love the app that goes with this speaker! There was virtually no set up. It was easy to use and understand. It immediately connected thru the app wirelessly. The Bluetooth capability is just as straightforward, with easy immediate set up and use. I expect a superior product from Bose and this speaker does not disappoint.

Good Wi-FI Speaker/performance, but.....
Posted by: MTang1106 from: on
Bose/Sonos are the two biggest players in the Wi-Fi sound arena right now with competition emerging from all other companies (LG, Samsung, etc.). Bose has the luxury of long being a major player in the speaker/sound arena, and Sonos has been the leader in wireless Hi-Fi.
I have tried both systems, and I feel it's best summarized as Bose being a jack of all trades, and Sonos being a master of one. Sonos has the superior app (I have not had the opportunity to try the new Soundtouch app to date), as well as superior sound to the Soundtouch 10. That's not to say that the Soundtouch 10 is not good, but it just is not as good as the Sonos Play 1.
The Soundtouch 10 is a good speaker. It has great highs and mids, but it lacks bass definition if you're in a more open space. When I put the speaker with it's back in a corner, the bass improved, but the Sonos was good everywhere. Sonos was SIGNIFICANTLY louder as well at lower volume levels while maintaining excellent sound clarity. I found myself missing the bass lines on some of my music. And by bass, I don't mean club thumping bass, I mean bass guitar lines in rock music. To most listeners, the Bose will prob. sound really good, but side by side to a Sonos, there is no comparison in sound quality.
Where this unit wins is functionality. The presets are nice and convenient, and there is Bluetooth and aux. input connectivity, which allows you more flexibility in the content you can play on the speaker. Sonos is only for music, whereas the Bose Soundtouch can be used for streaming your Netflix on your iPad, or quick connectivity for a guest.
Another thing is the ecosystem. Bose also has the Soundtouch 300 sound bar which in my opinion is significantly better than the Sonos playbar both in sound and aesthetics. Once you commit to Soundtouch or Sonos you're committed unless you want to use multiple apps which would defeat the purpose of Wi-Fi speakers in the first place.
I would suggest weighing whether you want superior sound purely for music of if you would like more flexibility in functionality I would give this a 3/5 stars for sound and a 4.5/5 for functionality.

Great product but....
Posted by: jimboslice from: on
I recently purchased the SoundTouch 10 and it is a wonderful product, however, I also own the SoundTouch 20. Since I own the 20, I can't fully endorse the 10. I enjoy having the display screen on the 20 which isn't offered on the 10. I would highly recommend the SoundTouch, however, I would go with the 20 rather than the 10.
