Expensive, Unreliable & roblematic Customer upport
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Are you excited to have completely wire-free camera system? I was too, until of course I was spending $40-$50 every other month on new batteries. Since using about 2-3 sets of batteries I decided on buying some authentic rechargeable batteries (made for arlo cameras only). They were excellent and couldn't of been happier with my $90 purchase for 16 rechargeable batteries. Since using these cameras about 8 months I've discovered the motion detection works, sometimes too often but always too late. They won't even triggered when I'm standing directly in from of camera. So, after reading how they work, these cameras only detect new objects coming in to the screen from sides. Weird but seemed like a cheap software. But, my main concern is when checking these motion notifications or the live view via Arlo mobile app. Every single time I attempt to view these cameras in live view or check out the motion alerts is that the camera can't stay connected more than 5-8 seconds, as you can see for yourself in my photos. Not only do I seem to have connection issues with the app, the cameras are literally only 15-25 feet away from the base station. I just deal with the issues every day and try not to let it bother me, even after 2 or 3 attempts. No customer should need to worry, especially if there's someone lurking around the home. The worst thing to encounter would be connection failures if something were to happen and you missed it. Lately these Arlo cameras haves been OK since the new batteries, but the newest issue is that I've now been plagued with the pink camera issue. A well known issue from Arlo support blog. I just randomly got it and luckily I am still under 1 year warranty and they were able to send a replacement and told me that we waived shipping costs for your replacement, LOL. Wow, I'm feeling blessed up to this point. But wait there's more. After receiving the replacement camera fairly quickly from FedEx, I open the package and see multiple scratches and dents on the outer casing of my new replacement from Arlo. I thought for sure they would send a new camera, but I was 100% wrong. I'm simply upset to say the least and after doing plenty research on outdoor cameras, Arlo was definitely not the 1st or initial pick, but we decided to go with Arlo during a holiday deal for about $350 ish. Like the saying goes "cheap is expensive". But, actually Arlo pro products are simply outrageously priced. Now the saying doesn't make sense, or are big corporations again taking more advantage of the general population. Oh I forgot to add that when I opened a case regarding my pink camera, I didn't hear anything back for almost two weeks & then decided to check up and get the status. After calling in it was discovered someone had closed my case and the issue was somehow resolved. Man, good thing I got back to them before my 1 year manufacture warranty expired. Be careful and do your research. That means checking reviews on multiple websites, not just the websites Arlo pays people to submit reviews on. Overall, I'm now reluctant to return my new camera for a refurbished one. I guess I have no choice this time now that I'm in the hole for more than $400 with everything. But, I certainly have a choice next time when shopping for outdoor surveillance systems and I'll likely disregard any/all Arlo coupons or deals at this point. No more headache and I work too hard for my money to just spend it on same products year after year. I just want a camera to last me at least 3-5 years before having to upgrade. All the best to you folks. PS) Do not put a review unless you've taken the product home and used it for at least a few months. My god!

Pretty, but poor software + critical hardware flaw
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly I hate to be frank, but really these cameras should have never been released, they have a critical design flaw and some lack-luster software support. I will elaborate, however here are my minor complaints. 1) the 2nd day my app said my base station was offline, it however had green light to cameras and internet. While i had the app open i power cycled the base unit and low and behold it all came back to life. Having a cloud only unit that does not properly reconnect to the cloud on problems is unacceptable. I have my entire network battery backed up including the Arlo base unit, power wasn't an issue. Needless to say this does not instill confidence in me as a reliable product when I need it. 2) The software while looking pretty is practically functionally useless. 10 seconds to 120 seconds recording option? Really why not record X seconds after motion stops. If you leave it at 10 seconds (factory setting) it's just garbage since the clips are not consecutive. IE lag, 10 seconds record (of UPS truck driving in), another maybe 10 second gap (where important stuff happens like UPS guy throws package down that you missed), 10 seconds recording (of UPS driving away). So as a user your forced to select 120 always making the other settings useless. Related note on Android you can't even scrub the video playback, you see a play button that you can toggle between playing and pausing but you can never go back in time. The only way to do it is to force refresh the chrome page. If you're going to use built in web pages to play the video make sure the actual player web pages work. I have a Google Nexus 5 so it's not like this is a custom setup. 3) Last and by far the most critical. Motion detected to camera recording lag. Wow this is bad, and I mean REAL bad. This product should have never gotten made if this is indeed a physical design problem. I have the camera over looking a large area, so lets say a person walking is like 20 feet away, they are able to walk anywhere from 1/2 the frame to 3/4 of the frame before it kicks into video mode. So basically you're forced to put the cameras so far back to give adequate boot up time for camera recording that the video quality is useless. People have reported online anywhere from 5 to 20 seconds of lag, mine was definitely over 5. The solution posted on your forums is to use 2 cameras to over lap an area and daisy chain the detection of one to start the next one. At $150 a camera that is NOT acceptable. You've gone and said, look that base station, really is a 2, maybe 3 camera max, at 300 a camera. WOW, and hopefully you have enough space to not care about the initial 5 to 20 seconds of video. Sorry to sound harsh but I'm just amazed that this product is on the shelf at major stores and costs this much for these major holes. As soon as another company makes a weatherproof battery powered wireless camera you're going to have some serious problems.

LESS than SAFE, Defective & Constantly Failing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1-Star is because the concept of wire-free a. BATTERY LIFE is SHORT - a month to 6 weeks at most. b.Recording to the Cloud constantly failing c. False & inconsistent text alerts d. Camera DEFECTS, images in PINK, GREEN or BLACK, night vision failure e. Customer Service adds insult to issues with tactics in attempting to trouble shoot an issue, knowingly the failure is on their end & waste your time in hopes a fix will ensue while making you perform a dog & pony act. f. sometimes motion detection works, sometimes it doesn't even when jumping up & down in front of it. G. FEELING LESS than SAFE as an intruder was on my property & ARLO failed as promised to keep me safe, their constant cloud issues, base-station issues & product defects makes their product horrifying, after spending over $1,000.00 for 12 cameras 3 base stations and have had issues each one.

Unreliable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the two camera system. From the very first day one camera has continually dropped of line. If I am not there to reset the camera the same day, the batteries are completely drained when I do get it reset. I replaced my digital cable modem and always have download speeds of over 16 mbps. Before replacing the modem the one camera would drop off line hourly. After replacing the modem I get a day or two before it drops off line. I've dealt with the frustrating Netgear support people for over a month and asked them to replace the one bad camera with negative results. I've wasted hundreds of dollars in batteries on this one camera trying to troubleshoot the problem to no avail. The second camera has worked perfect the entire time so it would appear that I have a bad camera that Netgear refused to replace. I have downloaded all the firmwear updates that I thought would fix the problem, but they did not. I've wasted way to much time and money trying to make this one camera work as advertised. This product is not reliable enough to be used as a security system.

Disgusting Customer Service
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never been so disgusted with a company. They allowed someone to call in and change my account so that the perpetrator that I was watching had possession of the video I needed for court. I immediately called to get it straightened out. For two weeks they gave me promise after promise that they would call me back. After more than 4 hours of phone calls and being placed on hold, I finally got through to someone who said they could help. They were to call me back with information on my video footage. I never received a call, but I got an email that stated that the footage had been erased from the system after 7 days per their guidelines. Now I can't get in touch with them again. If they had responded to me to begin with the footage wouldn't have been in the hands of the person it was meant to catch. I now have $550 worth of equipment that I can't use and can't return. I will NEVER purchase anything from Netgear again.

TERRIBLE PRODUCT!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product as a recommendation from the Best Buy employee as they didn't have any products I had reviewed/picked out. The camera's motion sensor hardly ever stays on. I turn it on then pull the site immediately back up and the motion detection is turned off. When it does stay on, it doesn't pick up on movement until a person has time to go in and out of the house, so nothing is ever caught. Complete waste of $200+!!!

Not worth the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Batteries die FAST & it's like $10 for 2 small replacement batteries.each camera takes 2 batteries, multiply that by 4+ cameras every 2-3 weeks = an arm and a leg -_- camera skips recordings. Playback is only 10 seconds at a time. it makes u watch a million mini clips that are inconsistent instead of one good one. Doesn't even record a waving hand until a whole 2mins after the fact or sometimes not at all! Needs better motion detecting technology and cheaper batteries. especially for that pretty price tag! Overall terrible buy.

Worst Ever
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was sold by the Best Buy sales person and an Arlo Rep that this camera system was the best. I was so excited about this system but when I had it installed up and running the batteries drained in 1 day. 4 cameras on these batteries and draining in one day is unacceptable! Worst system ever!

A big swing and a miss...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lured by the promise of great things, and backed by a company I have used with great success for years, I purchased this Arlo Security Camera. No wires, 4-6 month battery life, 720p, night visions, and motion detection! It pretty much met all of my needs... at least the advertising met all of my needs. I have had several issues with this setup. First, the top few centimeters of the image stays at full resolution when I zoom in to look at something, may not be a big deal to some, but this shouldn't be happening in a brand new system. Secondly I have had multiple recordings that froze within the first 3 seconds and stayed frozen for the entire recording. Lastly, the batteries lasted me 44 days. That's right, 44 days. Not 4-6 months like they claim. Netgear support says it is because I have the quality set on high, and must have a lot of traffic setting off the camera multiple times a day. Even if that were true, I would still expect the 4 month estimate. Truth be told, I have the quality set on balanced between resolution and battery life. I will admit that it probably detected motion 6 times (average) per day. I don't feel like this is overly active and is something that would cause the batteries to die after 6 weeks. Netgear also says my 44 day battery life is "almost 2 months". Again, still half of the low end of their own estimate. They then move on to tell me my network must not be able to handle the camera (as a solution to the "lagging recordings" I was having). My Nighthawk keeps up pretty well with everything and is definitely not the bottleneck. They also asked me to move the base station and camera closer to each other as that is most likely my issue as well. Seeing as how they are already 30 feet from each other, I feel like that is close enough given the 300 foot range they claim (in perfect conditions). All in all this camera is not for me. I have already returned it for a refund and will not be purchasing this again. I have to recommend against getting this unit unless you have no other option and require a camera. It was a disappointing seeing all of their claimed specs fail... Try again Netgear... try again.

Couldn't set it up
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Couldn't setup the cameras. They did not sync to base station which would have been ok, but the tech help at Netgear did not resolve the problem despite 4-5 hours chatting. Will try to set it up at my office. Even if there was a problem, I was hopeful that it would be easily resolved by communicating with tech support. Tech support didn't seem to be very knowledgeable; very disappointing. Hope to set it up at a different location; my office and not my home.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this unit because my father has this system in his house his works perfectly when I opened mine up it was chipped in the corner and after three days it started smoking from inside the main netgear box as well my system came with dead batteries for the camera. I am Very disappointed I just wanted a working system. The manager was of no help at the Sanford store and was actually quite rude.

Wasn’t seemless streaming
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The cameras were good while they were showing video but they didn’t constantly stream live video. I had to constantly tell it to refresh the live feed and there were several times where I’d walk right in front of the camera and the notification would come in 10min later. I had bought these to see someone who had been trying to break in two nights in a row so that late notification was no good.

Don't believe the battery life projections...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera itself is pretty awesome. But I was told the batteries last an average of 3 months.. I've had it for exactly 3 months and I am about to purchase the second set of batteries (Not including the set it came with) for this thing at $20-$25 a pop. If you absolutely need wireless, I guess get it... If not, DO NOT BUY IT!!!!

Average entry level wireless camera
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tested out the cameras for a couple days but the quality just wasn't up to par. Had my coworker stand about 20 feet away from a camera and you couldn't really make out their facial features. Aside from that the battery life is terrible only had them running 3 days and they were already on low life.

Several Negatives
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You need to buy an outdoor mount for a secure fit. The magnetic ball and screw isn't secure if you live in a windy region. The video doesn't detect motion from a good distant. When I turned the camera off for three days, it showed the battery life dropped from 90% to 27%. THREE days with the camera OFF! This shouldn't happen. I'm taking it back!
