I own the "WIsh You Were Here" boxed set already and plan to get D.S.O.T.M. as well. If you are an avid Floyd fan, you may have most of these recordings already, through bootleg gathering. But it's great to have them "officially" as well as to have the official albums re-mastered and packaged together like this. The extras in this set are awesome. Artwork, photos, historical facsimiles...Most of these items are suitable for framing or displaying on your bookshelf. Also, my original copy had a disc missing, disc #5. I called BestBuy and they replaced my set instantly! That's great customer service!

    They Built A New 'Wall'

Pink Floyd - 'The Wall' (Immersion Box Set, 2012 EMI Records) So, can we build a better 'Wall' that brings us something we haven't heard before? Oh Yes! ... Overall it's far better then my original CD version with a clean detailed presentation with a solid low end and an opened up midrange that's especially reveling on David Gilmour's acoustic & electric guitars. Richard Wright's keyboards have a fuller body & weight to them and I actually heard parts here (more of) of both keys & guitars that were more 'back of mix' on the old CD. Roger Waters bass is more ominous and resonant while not overblown. Nick Mason's kit provides the right amount of thud on the bass drum and a nice woody tone on the toms and a snappy snare and clear cymbals. Vocals hover delightfully at stereo midpoint as well as pan nicely between channels and have very good timbre. Treble has added aire & breath, soundstaging is very good for both width & depth, and again the resonance of the low end is extremely pleasing to my ears with an exceptionally low black noise floor (thank you James and...Oppo BDP-83, Pioneer Elite AVR, B&W CM9 mains & 2 JBL powered subs). So in a nutshell - James Guthrie’s remastering is again exceptional, bringing out the details in the band’s intricate playing as well as the production of Bob Ezrin, Roger Waters and David Gilmour. A thoroughly enjoyable music & sonic adventure & a welcome addition to the other 2 Immersion Box Sets of DSOTM & WYWH and TDB Anniversary Box in my collection. Yeah, I'm a Floyd Fan!

Immersion Edition Opens New Doors in "The Wall"

I have always considered "The Wall" one of the most powerful and cohesive concept albums of all time. Roger Waters and the rest of Pink Floyd really hit this one out of the park. The Immersion edition is a revelation for fans of this masterpiece. The new mixes by James Guthrie (who co-produced the original album and has since done a lot of mixing, re-mixing and production work for the Floyd), are excellent, exceeding even the quality of the Gold Disk edition I bought many years ago, which had been the sound standard for "The Wall." The re-mix of "Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live 1980-81" is less dramatic, since James Guthrie mixed the original just about ten years ago, it already sounded great and it is difficult to hear much difference. The supplements are fantastic, though. The DVD includes a wonderful documentary and conversation with Gerald Scarfe, who animated "The Wall," both the live shows and ultimately the film. The DVD also includes a live performance of "The Happiest Days of Our Lives" at Earls Court, which is great and the video for "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2." Also revealing are the two discs of demo recordings, many by Roger Waters, many by the whole band and a few by David Gilmour. The books are very nicely designed and put together as well.

    Makes me want more

For fans only. The nature of Pink Floyd leaves very little room for difference between the studio and live versions. There is some stretching of the solos and endings. An extra song or two, but essentially the studio album performed live. The two discs of demos are only summarily explained unlike the Beatles Anthology for example. Also there is quite a bit of repetition in the demos as you follow the development of the album. The video disc if very interesting as it includes excellent footage of original Wall performances. The documentary is also very good and different from the documentaries on the Wall movie DVD. The books and trinkets are nothing to write home about. No revelations. More marbles. Overall, very satisfying. Missing are the Blu-ray and surround mixes of the previous Immersion sets, but due to the double LP nature of the album, it is understandable. The footage from the original concerts are the most intriguing and raises hopes for further Wall offerings. (and more marbles, yay!)
