I bought this because I bought my original Garmin 53 in 2017. Both the old and the new have outdated maps. I was disappointed that the new 53 didn't have an updated map. When I needed to go 270N, the old 53 would have me turn right at 161W/270S and then cross over two lanes to get to 270N. This is DANGEROUS because, not only is the driver merging into traffic, but they would also need to cross two lanes in about 50 yards while other cars are traveling at 70+mph. When I use a different navigation system, it takes me on a different route that is safer. I do not like that system, so I decided to buy an "updated" newer model 53. After I bought the new 53, I checked for updates. The newer model has a the power button on the back instead of the top, the input functionality is fingers, the old one I could type with my fingernails. It takes a long time to bring the map and directions up after inputting an address or location. The attached map shows the route in pink, but the line is so thick that it does not show that I have drive down 270S and then try to get to 270. I missed getting onto 270N one time because the traffic already on 270S is going 70mph and there was no way, I could both merge AND cross two traffic lanes to get to 270N. The map with the black background is from the navigation software that I do not like.

This GPS was pretty much useless. I bought it for a trip to Florida from Tennessee. It kept malfunctioning. I forgot to turn it so I guess I’m stuck with this piece of junk.

NOT user friendly at all. Unlike my last GPS, it doesn't alert me to traffic ahead & offer re-route suggestions, in fact, when I hit the 'traffic' button, it tells me I don't have the right power cord in to detect traffic? I still haven't been able to find different routing modes (ie: my last GPS had shortest time, shortest distance, least use of freeways, mostly freeways, etc). It can't be used when not plugged in! Even when it is fully 'charged' (has been plugged in over an hour), as soon as it is unplugged, it turns off - it will not run on battery! I want my Magellan back!!!

In order to receive traffic on your Garmin Drive 53, you will need to pair it with a GTM 36 cable. Once you have that, a traffic event that will cause a delay of 5 minutes or greater can be detected during navigation. Only medium and severe traffic events will trigger an alert on the device.
Please get in touch with automotive support for further assistance or ways to purchase this cable.

It has been a while since I didn’t “just use my phone” so I could have done it wrong but mine wouldn’t connect to the satellite to work

Thought it would be up to date as far as area's in 2025 and couldn't find a street in Bedford N.H./ Goffstown N.H. It's called Eaton Rd. But as stated the GPS is new and not up to date for some odd reason.
