Like many people, I find ink cartridges expensive. HP is no different. I have used "off brands" but the last time I bought them my printer would not accept them. Fortunately the store where I bought them (not Best Buy) took them back and issued a refund. Again, the cartridges work fine so quality is not an issue. It is the price I find too expensive. You can buy a printer relatively inexpensively, but replacing cartridges is the expensive part. Especially color.

Expensive, doubt it actually gives the number of prints that are advertised and the worst part about owning an ink jet printer. Buying ink isn't fun. I contemplate junking the printer and buying a new one every time I need to buy ink. My printer goes into energy saving mode each night, and when it wakes up, I'm sure it consumes some ink to prep itself. Maybe it's a trade off, saving electricity or ink. At least the XL version increases the interval between forced purchases.

I actually came home from Best Buy with two of these (long story). I put one in my printer and got the message, "Printer Failure. There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn the printer off, then on." Did that; same message. HP's help site suggested unplugging the printer for a minute. Did that; same message. I searched the net for help with this message, and found a half dozen ways to clean the printer's print head. That's the cubbyhole in the printer that you push all the cartridges into. (It's actually quite easy to remove from the printer, and it would be worth trying to clean it yourself if the alternative is buying a new print head, which costs well north of 100 bucks.) Before going this route and making a fool of myself I went back to the HP site and had a stilted conversation with their 'virtual assistant', After telling me to do all the things I'd already done it finally suggested replacing the cartridges with new ones. Even though this smelled like an attempt to sell me more stuff, I just 'happened' to already have that second one on hand, so why not try using it instead? To my surprise, it worked! Now I know that HP is capable of selling me a cartridge that's DOA, so it got kicked off my pedestal of trustworthy companies. Since serendipity isn't going to strike twice I'm going to collect the pieces for a DIY head cleaning kit just to CMA.

What do you say about printer ink? Not like I have a choice and the printer company is well aware of that. Ink is good, price is ridiculous, but HP knows that as well. The only thing that makes the price easier to swallow is that the XL lasts longer. Otherwise, stuck between a rock and a hard place.

My HP Printer needed black ink. I got replacement. When I replaced it, the HP printer immediately asked me to replace one of the colors (which had been go until then). So I was forced to get new colors as well. Then after that color was switched out it asked for another color right away. You be judge of whether this is fair and whether it is worth buying black ink and following up with all the HP consequences...

PRINT AND SCAN QUALITY ON THE UNIT ARE EXCELLENT. MY GRIPE IS THE CYAN CART TRIGGERS A SHUTDOWN OF THE MACHINE (8600) AND NOW ALL CARTS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. WHEN FIRST INSTALLED, THO, DIDN'T WORK. SO I REINSTALLED STARTUP CARTS, AND IT WORKED FOR A SHORT TIME, ONLY TO STOP AGAIN. REINSTALL NEW CARTS AND THIS TIME IT WORKS. WE'LL SEE HOW LONG IT LASTS THIS TIME.

The thing is, this is a need if you have a printer and use a computer. It's ridiculous that they charge the prices that they do. Yes, the ink works well, but I am not happy paying the prices that they charge and I don't think you are happy either. I would never recommend to a friend a product such as this, that blatantly rips its customers off.

The price is high it's just ink and personally I think they charge way too much for ink it doesn't cost much for these ink companies to make it is one item that is way over priced you can buy a printer with ink included for a few dollars more I guess that's shows how truly over priced it is but we need it so unless we all stand up and get our voices head about what people are getting over charged for it will not change in essence it is up to people to help change things for the better and if we would stand up and let our voices be heard for what we believe in things won't change please use your voice to help change the small things which will in turn start to change the big things thank you Jesus for free will so we can have a voice for change and I pray it glorifies you .there are cheaper inks if you buy the right printer this is for my fax printer scanner check ink prices before you buy the printer

Good film and original manufacturer's ink quality, But the ink is way too expensive and it is criminal what they charge for ink these days...but HP printers clog up if you use off brand ink...what a racket!

Printer works with this ink. Unfortunately there were not other inks available. Love the printer. Love the quality of printing using this ink. However, I find that ink is too expensive for all printers. I have yet to find reasonably priced ink for any printer.

All the companies sell large black inks and they all sell small all other colors. Told by HP rep in store it's done to ensure fresh ink !!!!!! Laughed about it HP laughed louder as I left with 5 replacments.

Simple product, easy to use, but expensive compared to competition. Bought at Best Buy because I had cash reward expiring.

Product you hate having to replace but need. Good color. Easy setup. Width it didn’t cost so much.

The cartridge cost more than I would like to pay, but buying it was necessary. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with the quality of the printing.

This was pretty expensive, but it's what you pay now a days for ink. The good thing that it lasted longer than I expected....but maybe thats due to the printer.

While it's nice to be able to have twice the black ink at one replacement it would be even better to have a multiple pack of double black ink cartridges.

I am building a robotic octopus and this ink works great for discharging out of a synthetic ink sac. His name is Harry, in case you were wondering.

It transfer on to the paper correctly. It shows letters and numbers in black.
