I’ve generally been a fan of Shark vacuums and have owned a few over the years. They’ve always been powerful and reliable. The LA802 has been living up to that so far and it’s a good upright vacuum with great suction that works on a variety of surfaces. I have some nitpicks with it but overall I think it’s a good vacuum. The box includes the vacuum and 3 basic attachments, which are the crevice tool, a pet/upholstery multitool, and a dust brush. There is also an odor neutralizer cartridge, which is supposed to prevent odor buildup inside the vacuum. The assembly was simple and everything snapped together and was ready to go in just a few minutes. The vacuum has a nice look and build quality feels decent. All the buttons and latches feel solid and everything pulls away and attaches cleanly. In terms of general ergonomics and use, The LA802 is pretty intuitive to use. You can lift the pod off of the floor nozzle and carry it in one hand while using the handle in the other with the included attachments. The attachments can connect either directly to the handle or at the end of the wand, depending on what you are doing. One thing you cannot do is lift the pod away and still use the floor nozzle, which is pretty disappointing. On my old Shark upright you could do this and essentially turn it into a stick vac with a handheld canister and it made getting into tight spaces really easy. The LA802 does have enough clearance between the pod and and the floor nozzle that it can get a good amount of the way under couches and beds, but the farther reaches will require something else. The vacuum isn’t lightweight, but it’s not heavy either and carrying it around wasn’t bad. The cord is 25ft, which is just a little too short for me - I was having to reposition the plug a bit more than I’d like and I think an extra 5-10ft would have been helpful here. The cord holder is at an odd position behind where the hose is and I noticed it would fall off a lot while I was vacuuming. The LA802 has great suction and with the roller and soft brush it works great on both carpet and hard surfaces. Even with the best cordless vacuums it’s hard to beat the power of the cord. The power switch goes between 4 modes that are Detect, Hard Floor, Carpet, and Thick Carpet. The Detect mode is the automatic one and uses the sensors to figure out the floor type, how much dirt there is, and if you are close to an edge and it adjusts itself accordingly. Overall I found the Detect mode to work really well. It quickly adjusted between different floor types and was consistent at detecting edges and upping the suction power. It only really struggled on an area rug I had with a lot of varying surface heights and patterns and for that I had to change to the Carpet mode. The other modes are more manual and don’t utilize the sensors. The noise level was quieter than I expected and generally as inoffensive as a vacuum can be when it’s on, though the Carpet and High Carpet modes do introduce this grinding sound that isn’t as pleasant. The dust bin is 0.8qt and big enough that I could vacuum most of my house without having to empty it. I did find it odd to see the “Max Fill” line at the bottom of the bin though. That seems like a mistake to me as you hit that line pretty quickly with plenty of room still left in the bin. I’m not exactly sure what the purpose of the odor neutralizer is. It’s a cartridge that Shark says should be replaced every 6 months. At first I thought it was supposed to be like a carpet deodorizer, but from what I can see it’s supposed to keep the vacuum itself from smelling, which is not an issue I can say I’ve experienced. Overall I’m happy with the LA802. It does have its quirks but it still adds up to a good experience if you’re looking at a corded upright vacuum cleaner.

I have tried so many vacuums over the years and feel like I'm not easily impressed but the Shark Detect Pro® Lift-Away® ADV Bagless Upright Vacuum with DuoClean Detect, Anti-Allergen, Lift-Away®, and Odor Neutralizer Technology has actually managed to impress me after a few uses. I'm very familiar with the Shark brand so for a long time I just felt like most of their upright options were just slight tweaks of each other but nothing big. This one felt a little different. The detect technology is similar to a cordless version I have from the brand (which works well but the design of the actual vacuum needs some work) and it works excellently. It almost makes you a little ashamed of how well you THOUGHT your previous vacuum was cleaning because it lets you know the spots you need to keep going over to truly get it clean with the dark purple/lighter purple/white indicator alerting you. The suction is excellent on this machine BUT this is perhaps the noisiest Shark vacuum I have ever owned. Initially I thought maybe I had accidentally left some packaging on it that was causing the noise but nope. It just appears to be the way it works. It doesn't appear to affect the actual functionality of the vacuum though. The Odor Neutralizer Technology does make it a little easier to forgive the noisiness. An included pop simply snaps into the base of the vacuum and while vacuuming releases a fresh scent. I thought it would feel gimmicky but I actually like it. We'll see how well it performs over time but so far it's a nice touch. If it lasts for a decent amount of time before needing to replace it then that will be an even better touch. The attachments are what I have come to expect from Shark (this one includes 3) and I like that at least 2 of them can be stored on the vacuum (for some of their vacuums they seemed to go away from the storage spots meaning you had to keep the attachments somewhere else instead of having easy access). There are a lot of other attachments you can purchase to truly personalize for your needs which is nice. Overall, I think this is a great option from the Shark family. I also really like the 5-year warranty included to give a little peace of mind when choosing this vacuum.

This is my third Shark upright vacuum cleaner. I have a two story house and I like to have a vacuum on each floor. This one operates fairly similarly to the others, but the power button is not on the handle, which is where I’m used to it. I have to bend over (first world problems, I know) and push it, after trying to just turn it on or off with the handle which is already in my hand. The detect feature is okay, I have tile and Berber-like carpet and a few area rugs in between. At this point I prefer just selecting a pile height and leaving it there. The odor neutralizing technology is fine. I don’t think it does a whole lot, but I have it installed on my vacuum. You can also not install it if you don’t like the way it smells. The cartridge should be replaced every 6 months according to the instructions. Pros: Self-cleaning brushroll is great and doesn’t accumulate hair like old vacuums used to. If you have never owned a Shark vacuum with this feature, you will like it. It is hard not to like. I have cut hair off of many a vacuum roller, and you definitely won’t have to do that on this vacuum. The dust cup is large and easy to empty. Don’t forget about the upper part of the dust cup which spins long hair into a tidy clump on the cone shaped part. There are headlights on the main vacuum brushroll unit. This is really helpful for seeing dust and pet hair in your house that you didn’t know existed. Cons: Not crazy about the power button location. The other Shark vacuums I own have the power button on the handle, which feels more intuitive. There is no light on the handle, so if you use the attachments you have to rely on your own lighting. No turbo stair upholstery tool is included but there is an anti-allergen dust brush. Use the wand release extension to use the wand and attach the dust tool to it in order to vacuum underneath a deeper piece of furniture like a couch or a bed. The dust tool can be maneuvered in order to fit in various ways. There is no button to turn the rollers off if you are using the wand attachment and the rollers are on a surface that might be affected by them, put the body of the vacuum on a different surface. Although the rollers are soft, I had this situation happen to me once with an older Dyson model, which did have the off button, but I forgot to push it. The roller chewed through my softer puzzle piece-like gym flooring. It is a nice feature to have in a vacuum. I feel like this model is more of a base model than my others. If you want the additional features, just look into a higher level Shark vacuum, because I’m really happy with those.

Overall, it's a good vacuum. This model features an auto detect which controls suction power of the surface being vacuumed. It works well cleaning up pet fur on hard surfaces. The rug suction is strong, it pulls out rug fibers and may damage the edges of section rugs.

I have always been a canister person, however, they are hard to find. So when my last vac broke down, I needed something right away. The Shark - Detect was on-sale for an unbelievable price, so I went for it! I was stunned at the amount of dirt that came out of my carpeting! It even took out what I thought was a stain I would have to scrub. The real downsides of this vacuum are that the hose is very short and not very easy to use. It's very hard to use on area rugs, which is really disappointing. Most annoying of all is the cord doesn't stay in the holder on the wand so it's in the way all the time unless you hols it out of the way. But it does a great job on caroeting and hard floors, is easy to manoeuvre and empty, and takes up less space in my closet than my old machine.

Assembly was easy and fast! The vacuum has good power and works well on a variety of surfaces. It is a little heavy and at times tough to maneuver, but some of that is because of how strong the suction is to the floor. Easy empty and the tools work really well!

This is a good vacuum. We got another one after our first shark bit the dust (hahahaa) after 10 years. We still wanted to go with a corded option instead of cordless. Doesn't have to switch out parts moving from carpet to hardwood, so that's a plus. But you can't use the wand separate with the big attachment. Only the smaller ones.

It picks up dirty/hair really well. We haven't noticed the roller getting clogged up like the previous generations. So that's a huge plus. We purchased this after our old Shark vacuum stopped working. It's a little different to get used to but overall much improved. I still wish the modes switch was on the handle but that's not a huge deal. The unit seems a bit larger but overall is lighter. It's actually a little too good on suction and some of our area rugs I can't use on anymore because it gets stuck in the roller! It's still great for carpet and hard surfaces though.

Overall this vacuum has me amazing. Unlike my stick vacuum, it doesn't suck, because it actually sucks! Lol. I feel like the sensors need to be cleaned a little too often for my likely, but overall I love this vacuum! I will not that the pull is pretty strong on carpet so keep that in mind if you have arthritis or something along those lines.

This is a great corded bagless vacuum. I like the edge detect and it does work. Does well on my hardwood floors and carpet. For the price on sale I could not find a better vac.

This thing has amazing suction, so much so that it can pull you while vacuum specifically when boost activates. The one caveat of these bagless vacuums though is the cleaning. Lot of dust gets inside the vacuum and have to use a dust rag to clean it.

Strong vacuum cleaner, get the job done for sure. Worst part about it is the “no touch dump” which works partly if there is no kind of hair to get stuck higher up in the chamber have to push it out through top or reach in and free it up.

This vacuum works well. Its easy to detach the dirt compartment and dump it out. An older vacuum I had was similar but there was a filter in the canister and you always had to fish out all the dust. This one is a much better design - just shake it out, if even that. For a higher tech vacuum, it has an old school wind-up cord. I wish it had a retractable cord like my older vac which was convenient (even if it takes a few tries to completely retract). Good length to the cord tho.

The vacuum has powerful suction. The problem is the brush stops on thin rugs. Everything thing esle works. It needs to have some way for it's brush to adjust for thin rugs.

Very powerful suction. Handheld tools work great on couches and dog hair. I didnt think I’d care too much for the front lights but its one of my favorite features now. Attachment holders dont to the best job securing but overall great vacuum.
