The bundle includes two WD Red Pro 12TB 3.5" SATA III internal NAS hard drives, each backed by a Western Digital 5-year limited warranty. Designed specifically for NAS systems, these drives deliver enterprise-class performance and reliability. They feature Western Digital’s NASware 3.0 firmware, which enhances data protection, optimizes performance, and ensures seamless compatibility with various NAS enclosures and operating systems. These drives are built with CMR (Conventional Magnetic Recording) technology, which ensures consistent performance in RAID and write-intensive environments—unlike SMR drives, which may struggle under such workloads. Vibration control and advanced error recovery mechanisms are built in to maintain stability in multi-drive systems and prevent issues like drives dropping out of RAID arrays due to prolonged error correction. Some models may include specific power management features such as low-power idle states and rapid spin-up/spin-down capabilities tailored to particular usage patterns. While not helium-filled like certain Ultrastar models, the Red Pro series is engineered for efficient operation and durability. Security is also a focus, with select drives offering advanced features like TCG Opal encryption or Instant Secure Erase (ISE) for quick and secure repurposing. Rated for high workloads—up to 300TB per year or more—these drives are far more capable than typical desktop hard drives, which are generally rated for around 55TB per year. This makes them ideal for demanding, always-on NAS environments in both home and business settings.
