Compact size makes it usable in a PC audio system
I paired the SVS SB-1000 with the Edifier R1850DB powered bookshelf speakers for my gaming computer. The Edifier's have a subwoofer out that allows you to use any subwoofer you want. A really nice feature! The compact size made the SVS easy to fit under the desk, but I still may move it around to maximize the performance. I honestly don't know how SVS squeezed a 300w amplifier and a 12" driver in such a small enclosure. This sub can fill a small or medium size room quite well, and provides punchy, deep, high quality bass. None of that buzzy sounding bass you get from lower quality subwoofers. I use it primarily for music and gaming, and find it to be quick and responsive. If you have a larger room you may need to add a second one of these or upgrade to the ported or higher level model, as the SB-1000 doesn't produce high SPL levels in larger areas. This SB-1000 fit my needs perfectly and looks and sounds great. Looking forward to many years of enjoyment.

Improves my 5.1 bi-amp spearker performance
I added this to setup with two bi-amp full size floor tower speakers and two medium size rear pedastal mounted speakers and a center speaker for voice or dialog. Four-way, floorstanding, acoustic-suspension Drive-units: 1" fluid-cooled aluminum-dome tweeter 4" upper-midrange unit, Crossover frequency 320Hz 6.5" lower-midrange unit; Crossover frequency 100Hz 10" long-throw polypropylene-cone woofer Base was very good with these speakers with bi-amp output from my Denon 4300H receiver. I wanted more low end punch and did not want to add to the load of the receiver and went with a powered subwoofer with its on internal amp. The choice then became whether to go with a ported or non-ported design. For the size of my room and with the 10" woofers in the two front tower speakers I knew that I did not need the larger ported SVS subwoofers. With this setup and playing home theater content the subwoofer literally makes itself felt, and without any distortion. Some folks recommend a dual subwoofer setup which makes no sense at all. There is no directionality with the lower frequency output of subs and so very little to be gained by adding a second subwoofer. I highly recommend using a SVS interconnect cable for the amp to subwoofer connection. They are very well made and reasonably priced. You can buy more expensive ones for grins but they will not improve the quality of the audio regardless of the marketing hype.

Nice sub
A bit too glossy (I would have preferred a white satin finish) but bass response is great and easily fills a large room. I still need to tweak some of my receiver settings but this is paired up with Kef T-series surround speakers and it adds a nice whomp to movie effects. Recommended.
