Q: Can I trade in a Quest 2 for a Quest 3s?

The Meta Quest 3S 128GB

Right out of the box, the setup is fast and painless. Within minutes I was fully immersed, and the upgraded performance is immediately noticeable. Everything feels smooth, responsive, and powerful — from fast-paced action games to productivity apps and mixed-reality experiences. Load times are short, tracking is incredibly accurate, and the visuals are crisp and vibrant without feeling over-processed. What really surprised me is how comfortable and accessible the Quest 3S is. The headset is lightweight, well-balanced, and comfortable even during longer sessions. The controllers feel natural in your hands, and the intuitive interface makes it easy for both newcomers and experienced VR users to jump in without frustration. Best VR under $400
I’ve been using the Quest 2 for a couple of years now and was debating whether to drop $500 on the Quest 3 or just wait. When the 3S came out at $249, I finally pulled the trigger. Honestly, I’m glad I saved the money, though there are definitely some tradeoffs. The performance jump is the first thing you notice. The menus are snappier, and games like Batman: Arkham Shadow (which came free with it!) look way better and load faster than anything on my Q2. The mixed reality (color passthrough) is the biggest game changer, though. It isn't "real life" perfect—it’s still a bit grainy, especially if your room isn't super bright—but being able to walk to the fridge or check a text without taking the headset off is huge. The lenses are the main compromise here. If you’re coming from a Quest 2, they look identical (Fresnel), so you still have those subtle "god-rays" and a smaller sweet spot compared to the pancake lenses everyone raves about on the regular Quest 3. I tried my friend's Quest 3 once, and yeah, that edge-to-edge clarity is nicer, but is it worth an extra $200? For me, no. Once you're actually playing a game, you stop noticing the edges anyway. Comfort is... okay. It feels slightly bulkier on the front than I expected, and the stock strap is still pretty terrible. Do yourself a favor and use the money you saved to buy a third-party strap immediately. Bottom line: If you have a Quest 2 and want mixed reality and better graphics without emptying your wallet, this is it. If you have an unlimited budget, get the regular Quest 3, but for $249 this thing is a steal.

Solid VR headset with a few small drawbacks
The Quest 3S delivers an impressive mixed reality experience with sharp visuals and smooth performance. Setup was easy, and the included 3-month Horizon+ trial is a nice bonus. The headset is comfortable for shorter sessions, but it can feel a bit heavy over time. Overall, a great value for the price.
