Only worked for a week

It was bought as an open box- (no problem- it was missing some parts: mounting brackets, screws, box, instructions, etc., & had a small scratch. However, within a week the unit stopped working and shows just a white screen with colored vertical lines, or a black screen. Apparently its a common problem with this unit that I was unaware of, and it seems as if Best Buy is taking these returns, and just reselling them, rather than sending them back to Pioneer or disposing of them. I was told it was likely a display model- again, not a big deal, it was going in my commuter car anyways- so I dont mind a scratch or minor imperfections. But its a problem if the unit doesnt work!! How is it the same Best Buy location has several of these units all open box just like mine. Its not possible that they are all display models from the same location. Like my girl Judge Judy told me- when the story doesnt make sense, its nonsense!! Installing a head unit is a chore, and I'm not happy I have to do it again because its very likely some other customer experienced the same thing as me, & Best Buy likely just resold it. I encourage you to read the reviews for this unit, and see all the other complaints of the unit failing just as mine did. I didn't believe it, and thought the reviews were from the outliers, but it seems it us the norm with this product.

Do Not Buy. Screen Dies.

Callers were unable to hear me clearly through the microphone, therefore I always had to transfer calls to my phone. Screen died after 22 months of use. Unacceptable. Typical white screen. Pioneer support never responded. Upgraded to a new Pioneer DMH-2660NEX unit with an extended 4 year warranty, for ease of installation. Microphone works and callers can hear me clearly.

pioneer 1770nex white screen

Double din started to turn off and on by itself. Then the screen turns white with stripes. My brother bought the same double din and its now doing the something. Do not buy this model its garbage. I read on line and this model is known for this issue.

Garbage product, garbage customer service

The Best Buy technician told me it needed to be replaced & gave me the option to warranty it with Pioneer directly - returning it to Best Buy for the warranty was not an option. So he could leave the defective unit installed or uninstall it & leave a gaping hole in my dash while I fight Pioneer to warranty their garbage product. I felt forced into purchasing a new unit, which I did. I have been running in circles with Pioneer for 2 months, unable to make contact with any human being to warranty the product that conveniently will fall out of warranty in 12 days. I do not recommend Pioneer & I do not recommend Best Buy for your car audio purchases/installations.

Worked great until it didn't

It's now October 5th 2023 and the unit is completely unusable. Turn my vehicle on to go to work today and the screen is completely white. Occasionally the NEX loading screen would appear, but then it was just stuck on the loading screen. Looked online and apparently it's a common issue with this unit.

I’d give it zero stars if I could

Had nothing but issues with the install and now the screen has quit all together. Very common intermittent issue where the screen turns white and the unit goes non responsive and will not function. Seems like it’s going to work for a few minutes once in a while then goes white again. Do not buy this radio. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Do Not Buy There is a Problem With These Units

I liked it so much I brought 2 more to install in my other vehicles. 2 of the units stopped working after about 5 months. They freeze up on a white screen and then have to be sent in for repair to Pioneer. 1 of the units has been back twice already. $30 shipping to California and without a radio for 3 weeks. There is clearly a problem with this model. If you do a little research online you'll find others with the exact same problem. I would like Pioneer to offer me a full refund on all 3 units. They have refused.

Made Stock Speakers Worse

Maybe silly, but I thought a lot of the apps (you see on the box) were pre-installed, or Pioneer had an app you could use to download and customize what apps you wanted, but no. You have to have your phone plugged in, at all times, to use Android Play or CarPlay in order to get those features. If you don't want to do that, you can use bluetooth to listen to music or answer calls, but you'll be messing with your phone to do anything. Defeating the purpose of this head unit. FYI: Pioneer has a really dumb safety feature. In order to use some features ex. Mirroring (which I CANNOT GET TO WORK) you have to triggered the emergency brake three times in order for those features to work. Stupid. I think putting it in park should suffice. You can put in a micro bypass to trick the HU to thinking you did that, buuuuut that’s on you. Also, you can't use your stock MIC, you need to use the aftermarket. Mine is currently on the steering column, which I really hate. The tech explained why, and I understood his point, but I like a clean look and this looks cheap. From reading reviews, prior to install, usually head units improve stock speakers, but not in my case. This HU made stock speakers sound worse. It sounds like my tweeters are doing all the work and they sound clear, but the back door speakers sound quiet and not a crisp sound either. It doesn't sound like the sound is distributed equally. Also, it sounds like the bass checked out, almost muffled. So when I change the Balance/Fader to the rear they sound quiet compared to the front. The front is harder to tell because the door and dash speakers are close together, and the F/B plays them together. I brought it up to the install techs, later that day, but they assured me it sounded fine. However, they listened in a garage with the doors open, music up. That will give you a different sound reverberation/acoustics vs being in the truck driving the road. FYI to techs to keep in mind. They were nice, respectful, and told me they “wanted me to be happy” but said it sounded like every other Chevy with the cheap paper stock speakers. For me personally though, I'm not going out to spend more money on speakers to improve the sound. Especially if I don't know that will even work. I'd rather return the HU. They also informed me HU don’t change sound quality but I disagree. I bought this as a gift for my husband and I feel bad because he can tell the sound isn't right, so I know it’s not me. I I wish I had a recording of my stock 13ChevySil no nav, no Bose HU prior to install, because I have no reference of the sound beside knowing it’s not right. Not sure if the stock HU had a better AMP or what. I think the worst part is you don't know how these things are going to go/sound until you get it installed, but at that point you're stuck with it. So now that I invested time and money we're stuck with a HU that made the sound quality worse. This isn’t a dig at the Techs. They were informative and respectful and maybe don't deal with this "specific" issue, but I know that it’s changed and that’s what sucks. If I had the knowledge to go through the wiring to narrow down the issue, I’d fix it myself, but who knows if that’s even the issue. Could be a wire not tight. Could be the harness that's faulty. Who knows. Note: this HU is attached to a PAC RP5-GM31.

Malfunctioning pioneer screen of death..

About a month ago started to get a issue with the screen turning white or it will freeze up on the end NEX loading screen. It will not go to the next stage and it will not play music at all. Told Best buy about the issue they gave me the runaround they wouldn't even take a look at the at the radio. I will never buy a pioneer product ever again nor by anything from Best buy.. I had a horrible experience and I'm stuck with a pioneer radio that does not work...

Didn’t last longer than I expected

Stopped working after 18 months

Unit stared rebooting randomly about a year after purchase, then died completely after 18 months (see photo). I went to Geek Squad and the best they could offer was to send it to Pioneer for repair, since I didn’t have the protection plan. I decided to buy a similar Sony model, instead of opting for repair since repairs would cost ME money (I was not going to let Pioneer waste my money twice). I was HAD, because I remember Pioneer being a good brand in the 80s and 90s. Stay away from this product. Read the one star reviews. I don’t think they are a dependable brand anymore.

Good head unit with features only while it lasted

Pioneer quality is not what it used to be. Google it and you will see. Gave out with less than 1 year of use to the infamous white screen of death. If you buy Pioneer, get the extended warranty to give you some peace of mind. Pioneer charges $80 - 100 for a non-refundable diagnostic fee and you pay for shipping. Unknown costs to actually fix the unit. IMHO not worth fixing.

White screen of dead radio

Around 4 months ago, it woukd freeze every so often. Yesterday, it completly died. White screen of death. Its done. Accepts no input. Pressing the reset button cones back to the same thing. Sad, it was a buce radio. Ill be finding something else next tine. What waste of $400

This unit has went white screen or unexpectedly restarting multiple times as long as it's on. This is utter garbage. Pioneer is aware of this issue and charging for shipping when it isn't our fault. I have bestbuy coverage and have to pay a deductible for a KNOWN issue. This is just so disappointing. Getting rid of it completely.

Stay away from this unit!

A few months later, the unit is entirely useless, stereo is nothing but a blank screen and my backup camera is useless. Stay away!!!

Terrible

I have had it for a little over a month and it is not working correctly. Every couple of times when I turn it on I get a blank white screen with lines and it does not work. Now I have to contact Pioneer to see what I have to do to get it fixed.
