I had this product for a year and a half now and i use it for work. The battery life is TERRIBLE and now it will turn on at all. For 300 that i paid for at the time i feel like it wasnt work the cost. Had a one year warranty and now im screwed. Works perfect other than that. Just doesn’t last long.

This Garmin DriveSmart 66 froze and stop working in a middle of a trip more than once and could not be turned off while it was getting hot. I was afraid that it may burn up. I plan to return this unit.

Will not turn on half the time. Seems to be a battery issue. Works well the few times it has turned on. Used it successfully six times, six times, it wouldn't turn on.

A severe letdown bought to replace my Nuvi 2595LM that mysteriously died. It had all of the features I need but the DriveSmart 66 is about the Dollar Store version of the old one. I own Garmin GPS units dating back to a still-functional Garmin GPS III, a marine combo fishfinder and the dead Nuvi but this new one has none of the features I have come to expect from a Garmin GPS, instead, silly interconnectivity trash that are about Middle School toy level and designed to gather marketable data on users to feed mass marketers and other 'influencers.' I should have bought the $59. no-name off of Ebay and gotten the same lack of quality. User's manual is a JOKE....directs to links with no information. Mentions the SIM slot and says there are accessories available at another link.... that is a vacant lot. And AND...... the Off button does not turn it OFF. Holding it down for a few seconds gets a query "Do you want to turn it OFF?"....YES,. did that.... and it drained a fully charged, 3 month old Group 65 car battery in 4 days of sitting. I hooked up my digital Volt meter and in OFF mode it still draws .21 amps..... but does the manual mention that fact at all ?....ohhhh hellllllll noooooooo...... Garmin, your new DriveSmart line sucks !

Overall I am happy with the user interface of my new Garmin - DriveSmart 66 6" GPS. It is easy to select a destination and the audible alerts for upcoming turns and changes in speed limits are great. Where the Garmin - DriveSmart 66 6" GPS is lacking is GPS & direction accuracy. Even though I had already installed the latest version of GPS maps, in several instances in just 1 month of use I was given incorrect directions. In one instance I knew where I was going, a store located on a frontage road adjacent to a 4 lane highway, but I was using the GPS to get familiar with it. The GPS kept giving wrong directions and when I was finally parked in front of the store the GPS was telling me to go back out onto the 4 lane highway. In another instance I did not know where I was going, I was searching for a tire dealer to get a spare tire fixed. When I got to the location, the GPS told me I had arrived at my destination on the right, but the actual location was on the left. In yet another instance I was pretty much in the middle of now where in northern Wisconsin. Again I knew where I was going, but the GPS told me to take a single lane dirt forest road, hardly wide enough for even 1 vehicle, and much longer in time and distance than taking me to the nearest preferred main paved road. Since the main use of the GPS is for navigating, for the price paid the incorrect locations and directions are unacceptable.

To many problems. I have been using Garmin for about 14 years and 75,000 miles per year, this is the only Garmin that I have ever had any problems, I will be bringing it back to the store

I bought this Garmin model at my local Best Buy store three weeks ago, for use for this past Memorial Weekend. I have had a previous Drivesmart model that was about 8 years old and was not able to charge itself, so I figured it would be a good time to replace with a newer model. I chose the 66. On the 2nd day of my 4 day trip, the estimated time jumped itself from 11:54am to 6:32pm in a blink. We stopped at a rest stop and when the car turned off, so did the Garmin(as did my previous model). When I went to continue my trip, the Garmin 66 would not turn on. It was a little warm, so I let it set unplugged for a half hour. I tried it again, and it powered on and reset the arrival time to the original time given. We arrived within 4 minutes of that time. The next day of the trip, the Garmin started fine and programmed our trip. After 15 minutes, we stopped to fuel up for the day, and when we started the car back up, the Garmin did not power up. I unplugged it, left it idle for 15-20 minutes, tried it again and it turned on and worked. But here is the kicker...Before we stopped at the next rest area, I cancelled the route and then manually turned the Garmin off from the back power button. I also unplugged the unit from the car accessory plug. When we started again, I plugged it in, it came on, and I reprogrammed the rest of the trip. I did this about 4 more times thru the weekend and the Garmin worked fine. Not sure if this is a "glitch" that Garmin can fix with an update, but it will be a pain to have to go through this every time I want to use it. And of course, with me buying it 3 weeks before to be prepared for my trip, the return policy for Best Buy has expired after 15 days.

It only last four months. It stopped working in the middle of a trip. It left me downtown Cincinnati and I had to figure out where to go.

It gets me in the general vacinity of where I want to go, especially if the place is in a shopping center.
I was not able to calculate my day as with past units because there isn't a place to put in the time on site.

The build quality is not as good as the Garmin - DriveLuxe 50LMTHD 5". Also I noticed that it will auto shut off even though still being powered, WHY?? I use this for work and sometimes need to be stationary BUT need it for it's Bluetooth connection to my phone. I've gone through all the settings without any luck.

You are correct in that we no longer offer a device with a alloy case such as the older DriveLuxe devices. Not at par with the quality we’ve come to expect from Garmin. During navigation it went off on a loop on its own and would not stop adjusting the position.

It was pretty mid not gonna lie I don’t know if I’d use it again.
