The Nest hub is an excellent way to control all your smart home devices. Its definitely way better than Siri when it comes to understand commands and compatibility with products. The screen size is ok. I would recommend going for the bigger Hub Max, but the price of this one vs. the Max is significant. You can usually catch these on sale for $49. While the Hub Max lowest price I’ve seen is $150. The touchscreen is very responsive and the speakers work fine, just don’t expect it to have audio like an Apple Homepod mini. I have been using three of these around my house for over a year. Two are working fine and one already has the screen failing. There are color lines through the LCD screen that have made it difficult to see whats on the screen. Although, it still works and responds to commands, the screen is definitely an issue. I have these hubs synced with google cams all around the house and I enjoy being able to see my front door and all my Google Cams with a command. I usually find myself using it with my Nest Thermostat as well, and use it as my daily alarm clock. The overall quality for what you pay is fine. I know my screen is now broken, but for $49 Im not going to complain. I will mention that I never used the touchscreen on the hub that has the LCD screen broken. I barely even used that hub so I would have expected a much longer life expectancy. If Apple had a LCD screen I would be all over it, and would pay the premium. But im not going to pay the premium on a Google Hub. There just isn’t many options out there for a smart hub with a screen except for Alexa products and Google for the most part.

its ok. often the assistant will activate for no reason, and the apps it can install are limited. the interface is not the most intuitive, the apps are very limited and limiting. for instance spotify and youtube are impossible to browse if you don't know what you want to hear/see. in addition to that unlike the Max Hub it can't work like a security camera. i am sure a future generation will show much improvements but this isn't worth it and the Max isn't much better.

Nearly complete and utter garbage. It gets two stars because it meets the bare basic minimum requirements that I had. As a twitch streamer (md278x) it’s important I get my rest and wake up for my streams. My requirements were: 1. Show me the time 2. Show me the weather It does that. However, hardly any useful customization. It HAS to be in a particular setting to show me the time and weather. If I add a picture, the information is too small to read. What is the point of that? You essentially have to do all of the settings on the device. WHY?! It is just out of arms reach for my use case and it takes a great deal of effort to set the alarms and so on. Yes you can use voice commands (I haven’t tried to be honest but I shouldn’t have to) but what about if you’re away and you want to set an alarm for something that just came up? Don’t even bother trying to change the tones. This is what actually prompted this review by the way. Twice now, as I was scrolling through the different alarms looking for a heavy hitter, the thing just times out (while trying to play sample sound) and goes back to the home screen. What the heck! Just simple stuff like that is very frustrating.

Hi MAJCapers, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that Nest Hub (2nd gen) didn’t meet your expectations.
For changing the alarm sounds, we suggest resetting Nest Hub (2nd Gen). This may be helpful to refresh the system and will improve the overall performance of your device. Doing a factory reset will erase all data and you may need to set it up again. To reset Nest Hub (2nd Gen), press and hold both volume buttons together at the back for about 10 seconds. Your Nest Hub will let you know that it's resetting.

Underpowered “hub” that is a glorified digital frame. Bought it because I added 2 Nest floodlight cameras and a doorbell to my home. It is clunky and slow to respond. Phone is far faster. The speaker is Ok for sound, but integration with Spotify via hub is terrible and if you’re an iOS household forget pushing from your phone to hub. Oh, and YouTube music works, but changing songs is slow and unresponsive. Should I expect more from Google? Probably not given the clunky install of 3 Nest products (dependent on QR codes). Use your phone or get an Android tablet instead.

Hey there. Thanks for investing high on Google Nest devices, and for giving us feedback about the Nest Hub (2nd gen). We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations. We are committed to providing exceptional experience, and feedback like this helps us identify areas we can improve for users like you.
Meanwhile, it can be helpful to check for any wireless interference or rang issue that can affect the overall performance of your Nest display. Although the device can pass the connection test during setup, it will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away from your router. If you're experiencing a spotty connection or weak signal, we also recommend checking your Wi-Fi network to see if your bandwidth is congested, which happens if you have too many devices connected on the same bandwidth or if your network package is not enough to handle the data traffic on the network. Removing other connected devices to your Wi-Fi may relieve network congestion. You may need to extend your Wi-Fi network’s range using boosters or additional Wi-Fi access points if your display is located too far from your Wi-Fi router.

It is slow, sometimes taking up to 30 seconds to respond. It has completely wild misinterpretations of requests. For example, I'll ask it "Turn off family room TV" and it will respond "Master Bedroom TV is not available". The worst is when I ask it to turn off an outlet I have labeled "Microwave" to child proof a microwave my 2 yo son can reach. I'll say "Turn on Microwave" and it responds with "turning on 7 lights" and proceeds to turn on every smart bulb in the house while most people are trying to sleep. Seriously, you have to annunciate to a ridiculous level, it takes too long to understand, and sometimes just does random stuff that is nothing close to the request. I feel like everything Google makes has just gone downhill the last 2 years. I'll deal with the google crap I have now until it's worth replacing it all with a better brand

The screen is nice. The display is a good size. However, it has one fatal flaw. It just does not hold a signal with its Google nest cams. It’s been an issue for years. It’s still an issue. I bought these for the purpose of monitoring my home, including my child’s room. The camera will.not.stay.on. I am lucky if it stays on the screen for more than 15 minutes before displaying “camera feed is not available” I know this is a software/design issue because it works just fine on my Google home app on my iPhone. But, I don’t want to have to use my iPhone as a monitor 24/7. That what these are for!! Big, big flaw in the unit. I cannot give it any more than 2 stars

Easily one of the worst electronic devices ive ever owned...When it works its fine, but this is my second of this version and they literally have the attention span of a two year old. Randomly, multiple times a week it just decides it no longer wants to hear anything you say, and i don't mean the "i dont know what you mean", it doesn't even acknowledge the "hey google". Then 1/4 of the time when it does actually acknowledge you it either takes 10 minutes to do what you ask/said, or just fail outright. I've had the exact same issues with both units

Hi James, thanks for your feedback. We're sorry for the frustrating experience you have with the voice command for Nest Hub (2nd Gen).
For the best experience when giving voice commands with Nest Hub, especially if you have other family members in your home using the Nest Hub (2nd Gen), setting up your Voice Match will help improve voice recognition and identify different accounts for your device. Here are some steps you can follow to enable this feature:
- Open the Google Home app.
- At the top right, tap your account.
- Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
- Tap Assistant settings > Voice Match > Add devices.
- Make sure any devices you want to link your voice to are checked.
- Tap Next > I agree.
- Follow the in-app steps.
- To hear personal information, you must turn on Personal results. Tap I agree and proceed with the Voice Match setup.
- To invite others to set up Voice Match for tailored results, tap Invite > choose your communication method, and send the invite. To skip this step, tap No thanks.
We also recommend enabling the Personal Results for your account. Simply follow the steps on this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7684543

Trouble is, I have too much that is Nest but if I didn't I would absolutely ditch the google nest products in favor of something else. Longevity/reliability is an issue and the app is very clunky. Google really ruined Nest unfortunately.

Thanks for reaching out on your Nest Hub (2nd gen). Sorry you're experiencing issues with screen responsiveness — that seems out of the ordinary. A factory reset can help solve that problem and here’s how:
On the back of Nest Hub, press and hold both volume buttons together for about 10 seconds. Your Nest Hub will let you know that it's resetting. Once it does, you’ll need to set up your device again.
If that doesn’t work, we’d be glad to investigate, reach out to us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp?

It has a lot of neat/cool features. Practically, though, I mostly use it to play music in my kitchen and as an alarm clock in my bedroom (it also controls my bedroom lights). Every day or two, the Hubs will all disconnect from the wifi and be unusable until I go through the setup process with all of them in Google Home again (it's tedious, and I can't turn my bedroom lights on without google home...). When they do work, they're pretty good. The sleep tracking is useless, not worth paying for (especially if you share a bed).

Hi there BeefSupreme, we're glad to hear you liked the cool features of Nest Hub (2nd Gen). We do apologize for the disconnection issue you are experiencing.
Here are some recommended steps you can try that can prove to be helpful with the issue:
- Check for possible congestion in your Wi-Fi network. Removing some of your connected devices can help free up some bandwidth space. You may then check to see if you will still experience the same connectivity issue.
- You may also check for possible sources of interference such as the thick walls and appliances in your home.
- Resetting Nest Hub is also a good idea to try out. This process will erase all data and you may need to set up your account again. To reset, check out this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7073477

I bought this specifically to control my home lighting and audio. I am an Android user since Doughnut and have used almost 2 dozen different Android devices including phones, tablets, STBs and speakers. This is the first device i have used in over a decade that has had issues recognizing and responding to voice commands. I have it fully updated and it sits within 10 feet of my router, but constantly gives an error "something went wrong, please try again in a few seconds" when asking it to do basic tasks like turn on lights. I even disabled voice recognition on my other devices to ensure it wasn't getting confused by multiple devices trying to respond, but the issues persist. Definitely returning it.

I tried this unit because I got tired of the way that Amazon keeps infringing on my space in their quest to monetize everything, especially with their Alexa app. The price was right and I also picked up a Nest Mini. If things had worked out better, I would have purchased two more of the hubs and another Mini. But actual performance never matched the set of Alexas that I'm using all over the house. -- The skills are not as mature. I use my current setup to listen two three different programming streams from the local NPR affiliate. But with Nest, no matter which one I asked for (and got confirmation) the same single station was selected -- the one I listen to the least. -- And then there are all those Pages on the top. I don't care about some of them and I don't want them cluttering up things -- but you can't delete or hide them. -- It appears that you can broadcast audio to all your other smart speakers. -- The Hub would never recognize my Android phone because there were on different WiFi channels. Except that they were on the same channel. ++ The audio is better, but that doesn't do much good when I can't listen to some audio sources. After spending a few hours and two factory resets, I'm taking it back to Best Buy.

The display and speaker work great. However, the smart assistant echo system is very poor. The smart assistant will connect to all of my devices, but will only control them about 50% of the time. At this time you would be better off staying with Amazon Alexa.

Not as useful as I hoped. It’s interface is difficult to maneuver. I didn’t want to use my voice to make it function but it always wants you to. There are no directions for it and googling how to get to certain settings or setting it up to be more personalized just made it a headache!I wanted more detailed information from the nest part of this thing because if I’m not home and someone else is they should be able to see everything I own through nest — a google product— but it doesn’t function that way. To make phone calls- google is far too invasive. If internet connection is lost for even a split second it switches to a setup internet screen and stays there permanently until unplugged from the power and restarted. Will be returning.
