Q: Is the video capture motion detection only or streaming with playback (SD card auto overwrite)?
A: Hi! This battery operated camera will detect motion/activity based on the parameters set by the user in the Tapo app. When motion is detected, based on those parameters, the cameras can save recorded videos to a microSD card (up to 512 GB), or by using Tapo Care cloud services via a Tapo Care subscription. If using the microSD card option, once the card reaches its storage capacity, the newest activity clips will overwrite the oldest activity clips.
A: No; these cameras record clips based on detected activity, which you can set the threshold, and zones for, within the Tapo app.
A: Yes you can review old videos from anywhere you have internet access on your phone. Remember that if your setting is to loop recordings over older videos then you might loose what you were looking to review. Downloading the videos you want to store for longer periods helps.
A: Yes, they will continue to record locally to the MicroSD card, even if connectivity to the Internet is lost.
A: It will take about five and a half hours with the original charger (5V 2A USB Charger) included in the product package. The batteries in the TC85 are non-removable, and are designed to provide reliable use over time. However, should any concerns arise, our 2-year manufacturer's warranty provides peace of mind.
A: Yes, you can configure notifications in the Tapo app based on detected activity.
A: U3: UHS speed class: U3 indicates the cards speed. This card, will have the ability to record 2K and 4K video. A U3 card can record up to 30 MB/s. A2: Application performance class. There are two classes, A1 & A2. A2 is 2.5 to 4 times faster. This is the input-output, write speed of the card. V30: Video speed class I’m far from an expert, but I believe the U3 rating is the most important. I purchased cards from known manufactures that had both U3 and A2 ratings in 256GB & 512GB. I don’t think you need a pro/extreme/endurance card since the card will not be written to over and over. However, temperature might be an argument for one. FYI: Samsung EVO Select is exclusive, Amazon branding, and is identical to Samsung EVO Plus.

Good choice for basic home surveillance
Overall the cameras produce a high-quality image with entirely sufficient audio for basic home surveillance. Battery life lives up to advertised claims. Features are useful but not terribly intuitive and have required a fair amount of tweaking. (These are my first home cameras, so the difficulty with features may be attributed to my lack of experience, at least in part.) The range of the cameras’ viewing angle is impressive, Low-light and nighttime viewing is solid and fully meets my needs. Person Detection and Motion detection is reliable. Installation was simple, basically two screws that are easily stripped with power tools but can be set with hand tools or substituted with higher quality screws. The magnetic base holds the camera well in most conditions, but can move slightly in high winds. The movement triggers motion detection but was so slight that I have not had to readjust. The cameras have alerted me to a neighbor attempting to steal my push mower. It took a moment to figure out the process, but I was able to berate them via the Talk feature mid-theft. They ultimately abandoned the caper, however I realized afterword that only the initial 15-second Motion Detection clip was recorded. In the fluster to save my mower, I didn’t think to hit the record button. The would-be thief set off motion detection by moving the camera with my rake, but the wide angle still captured their face and as I was able to describe to them exactly what they were wearing, I was able to give the impression that the whole event was saved on video. So there’s that. The Alarm function can be triggered by Motion/Person detection but I was unable to set it off while viewing the live feed. Connecting to WiFi is easy. Cycling between cameras is a bit convoluted at times. Wholly a good purchase.

Great Value and Quality
I love how much they last, everything depends on your are if there is too much movement, I love that we can use micro sd cards if we don’t want subscription! They are super easy to set up as well, it would be great if they used usb c.
