“Does the Onkyo - TX-SR494 have a modem to connect to a home network for firmware updates etc? If not how are firmware updates accomplished?”

Hello AZhermit, The TXSR494 doesn't have the ethernet connection. So in order to perform an update you would have use the USB connection. To obtain the firmware you would have to go to the Onkyo site on the Product Page for the firmware drop down to be able to download the firmware and instructions. Thank You Onkyo
