Q: QuestionA question about connecting a record player had 2 "yays" & two "nays." But not all record players are the same. That is why some are called "turntables." So to clarify: can you connect a quality TURNTABLE to this? In other words, does it have a preamp?

• A:Answer Hello Luislast, The TXSR494 does not have a phono pre amp input for a turntable. However, if you get a separate pre amp you can connect a turntable to that and then use the RCA inputs on the TXSR 494 receiver. But if you are wanting a receiver that supports a phono input built-in you would have to go with TXNR696 or higher in the Onkyo Receiver line. Thank you Onkyo

Q: QuestionHow can I use a USB FLASH DRIVE on this receiver?

• A:Answer This unit has a USB connection on the back panel. See photos. It has the ability to be set to supply power out to whatever is connected or not, also. I just connected a USB cord for Apple products to it and leave it hanging off to the side of the unit for ease of use. You would have to plug USB Stick into the back (need easy access to rear pane) or get an extension cable and connect that like I did and leave it hanging to the side for easy access.

Q: QuestionIs the units ARC channel bi directional. I want to input my TVs ARC channel to allow the use of the TVs remote to control the AVR.

• A:Answer Hello Tombc, For the TV's remote to control the receiver’s volume you would have to turn on the HDMI CEC within the receiver’s menu. You would do the same within the tv’s menu by turning on the HDMI CEC for the receiver and the tv to communicate. For more information, you can check page 33 of the TXSR494 manual. Thank you Onkyo

• A:Answer Hello Question The TX-8470 stereo receiver has the 75 ohm coaxial connection for the FM connection. The TXSR494 can also be setup as stereo receiver and that also has the 75 ohm coaxial connection. Thank you Onkyo

Q: QuestionDoes this receiver have dual zone capability. Can you listen to different sources in different rooms?

• A:Answer Hello LeeLee, The TXSR494 has dual zone function but it is called Zone B. With Zone B, you can adjust the volume but it will be a same source that would be playing in the main room. If you are looking to have a different source on another zone you would have to go with the TXNR6100 and up for the zone 2 function. That function would then allow you to play a separate source from the main room. Thank you Onkyo

Q: Questionthe usb port on the appears to be a power out, not for playing audio from a usb drive. I also do not see USB as a source on the remote. Can someone confirm playback from the usb port?

• A:Answer Hello ptbuzzcut, The TXSR494 usb is for power supply of a streaming device or to perform firmware updates. However, when it comes to the power supply, it would be suggested to check the streaming devices amp/voltage before connecting to the receivers usb power supply. If the usb is not powerful enough for the device then it would be recommend to the use the power adaptor for the streaming device to work properly. Thank you Onkyo

Q: QuestionIs the remote a standard infrared type, or does it enable remote access to the Onkyo using Bluetooth (in other word, you would not need line-of-sight for operation).
