The speaker rating for the SKB 540's are 8 ohms 130 watts. I would recommend checking the receiver to see what it is able output. Is the issue only happening on certain speakers or all speakers? Have you taking the speaker that its happening to and put it onto another terminal to see if you are experiencing the same issues?

The TXSR605 was a 90 watt channel receiver and the TXSR494 is at 80 watts per channel at 8ohms. It would also be recommended to check the speakers ratings as well before going with the TXSR494. Also, the TXSR494 does also support 7.1 channel hook up.

The TXSR494 has the HDMI Standby Through setting. To set that up, you would have to within the Hardware section of the setup then under the HDMI. Within there you would go and enable HDMI Standby Through.

Unfortunately, the TXSR494 doesn’t have a 3.5mm connection for a microphone to be connected. The only audio connections that the receiver supports is RCA (analog audio inputs), coaxial and optical digital inputs. It would be suggested to contact the Microphone manufacture to see what they would recommend for the connections to be connected to the receiver for the best quality performance.

It would be recommended to check with BOSE on what setting for the impedance should be selected on the TXSR494 since the BOSE are a range 4 to 8 ohm load. Once you have that information then you can set the receiver to support the impedance of the speakers. You can reference this information on pg 22 and pg 72 within the manual of the TXSR494.

You have the ability to connect either a 5.2 or 7.2 channels depending on how many speakers you are wanting to connect to the main room. Or if you are planning to hook a second room, which would be Zone B. Then the main room would 5.2 and the surround back/Heights terminals is what you would use for Zone B.

Unfortunately, there is no setting to switch zone B to be apart of the surround setting. If you need a receiver that has pre-out so that you can use a separate amp to power speakers then you would have to go with TXNR696 and up.
