Q: QuestionDoes this receiver have dual zone capability. Can you listen to different sources in different rooms?
Asked by LeeLee.
- A:Answer Hello LeeLee, The TXSR494 has dual zone function but it is called Zone B. With Zone B, you can adjust the volume but it will be a same source that would be playing in the main room. If you are looking to have a different source on another zone you would have to go with the TXNR6100 and up for the zone 2 function. That function would then allow you to play a separate source from the main room. Thank you Onkyo

Q: Questionthe usb port on the appears to be a power out, not for playing audio from a usb drive. I also do not see USB as a source on the remote. Can someone confirm playback from the usb port?
Asked by ptbuzzcut.
- A:Answer Hello ptbuzzcut, The TXSR494 usb is for power supply of a streaming device or to perform firmware updates. However, when it comes to the power supply, it would be suggested to check the streaming devices amp/voltage before connecting to the receivers usb power supply. If the usb is not powerful enough for the device then it would be recommend to the use the power adaptor for the streaming device to work properly. Thank you Onkyo

Q: Questionhow do you get it out of protect mode
Asked by jaiden.
- A:Answer Hi Jaiden, I too bought an open box version of this head unit from Best Buy about a month and a half ago and experienced the same problem. Likely you have just re-bought the unit I returned which means Best Buy is not thoroughly checking the units when they are returned and is putting them back up to re-sell in a damaged state. You will not be able to clear the code as there is some circuitry damaged inside the unit permanently. After some thorough research I've come to two possible conclusions: 1.) The first person that bought this unit from Best Buy brand new stripped their speaker wires over the top of the unit and small strands of copper shed off and fell through the ventilation slits in the top of the unit and landed on circuitry which then shorted out when it was plugged in to the power outlet. 2.) It's also been noted elsewhere that this is a known issue with poorly manufactured circuitry on Onkyo's part at the factory and some units seem to be failing in this manner just due to poorly manufactured circuitry and are not due to user error at all. Either way, Best Buy should stop trying to sell these as open box if the units are stuck in protection mode and clearly have some sort of permanent circuitry damage.

Q: QuestionWhere are zone B speaker connections
Asked by Chiz.
- A:Answer Hello Chiz On the TXSR494 for the Zone B speakers you have the choice of using the speaker terminals which are located for Heights/Surround Back terminals. Or you can get a sperate power amp and use the Pre/Iine Out RCA connections. Whatever way that you are going to use zone B you would have to make the change in the receiver within the menu: Speaker Setup so you can get sound through the speakers when you choose them. Thank you Onkyo

Q: Questiondoes this receiver support 2 speakers in zone B
Asked by chiz.
- A:Answer Hello Chiz Zone B speaker terminals on the TXSR494 are only able to support 2 speakers. However, if you get a power amp and if that amp can support more than 2 speakers then you can connect the power amp via the RCA connections in the Pre/Line output for zone B. Thank you Onkyo
