QuestionCan I hook speaker wires to this receiver

- Answer Yes, I believe thats the only way to connect speakers. I dont think they have wireless. It does have bluetooth, But you cant choose to connect to a device with it, For example:you have to use your phone or PC bluetooth and connect to it. The stereo itself cannot "connect" to a speaker thats "ready to pair", If that makes sense.

- Answer Hello Bob, On the TXSR494 there is two subwoofer RCA pre out connections on the rear of the receiver. Those connections are located next to the Front speaker terminals. Thank you Onkyo

- Answer Hello Richard, You can configure the TXSR494 as a 5.1 instead of doing 7.1 receiver. Your configuration would be the Front (2), Center (1) and Surround (2) is your 5.1. The two surround back speakers are 6 or 7.1 configuration. Thank you Onkyo

QuestionWill bose 301 be a good March with this reciever

- Answer Hello --- T The TXSR494 has the ability to connect the BOSE 301's. It would be recommended to check with BOSE on what setting for the impedance should be selected on the TXSR494 since the BOSE are a range 4 to 8 ohm load. Once you have that information then you can set the receiver to support the impedance of the speakers. You can reference this information on pg 22 and pg 72 within the manual of the TXSR494. QuestionCan I drive 30 yr old Bose 301 speakers with this receiver?

- Answer Hello --- The TXSR494 has the ability to connect the BOSE 301's. It would be recommended to check with BOSE on what setting for the impedance should be selected on the TXSR494 since the BOSE are a range 4 to 8 ohm load. Once you have that information then you can set the receiver to support the impedance of the speakers. You can reference this information on pg 22 and pg 72 within the manual of the TXSR494. - Answer Hello RC You have the ability to connect either a 5.2 or 7.2 channels depending on how many speakers you are wanting to connect to the main room. Or if you are planning to hook a second room, which would be Zone B. Then the main room would 5.2 and the surround back/Heights terminals is what you would use for Zone B. Thank you Onkyo

- Answer Hello ---- The TXSR494 does have a Vocal button on the remote control( located in between the volume button) that you can adjust the center channels vocals. Depending on the input source or the listening mode the Vocal function may not be available. Thank you Onkyo

- Answer Hello Humayun To configure that receiver as a 5.1 the speaker terminals that would need to be use is as follows: Front(Left and Right) Center Surround(Left and Right) Subwoofer(Subwoofer pre out) If you would like more information or diagrams you can refer to page 23 for the subwoofer and page 24 for the speaker terminal configuration. QuestionI have 5.1 surround sound setup - with powered sub-woofer. Does this allow me to setup to wired stereo speakers in a remote location of the house --and hear audio in that remote location only? Or does the main speaker setup have to be heard as well?

- Answer Hello Ric, The TXSR494 has a zone B preout(RCA connections) that would have to be connected via a powered amp. Or you can use the Height/Surround Back terminals to connect the zone b speakers. Once you have zone B connection, below is the different variations on how you want to playback audio through the receiver. Below are the speaker selections: Displays the audio output destination. A: Outputs audio only to the main room (ZONE A). B: Outputs audio only to the separate room (ZONE B). AB: Outputs audio to both the main room (ZONE A) and separate room (ZONE B). Thank you Onkyo

QuestionDoes the Onkyo - TX-SR494 have a modem to connect to a home network for firmware updates etc? If not how are firmware updates accomplished?

- Answer Hello AZhermit, The TXSR494 doesn't have the ethernet connection. So in order to perform an update you would have use the USB connection. To obtain the firmware you would have to go to the Onkyo site on the Product Page for the firmware drop down to be able to download the firmware and instructions. Thank You Onkyo

QuestionCan the Pre/Line Out zone B be assigned to be used as the Front sound source? I have powered speakers I want to use as the "front" sound source in my home theater set up.

- Answer Hello Outputs, Unfortunately, there is no setting to switch zone B to be apart of the surround setting. If you need a receiver that has pre-out so that you can use a separate amp to power speakers then you would have to go with TXNR696 and up. Thank you Onkyo

- Answer Hello Gerry, You would need to have the bluetooth transmitter feature for you to connect to the wireless headphones. The TXSR494 doesn't have that feature. The starting model that would have the bluetooth transmit(TX) and receive is the TXNR5100 and up. Once you enable the transmit feature then you would the headphones. Thank you Onkyo
