QuestionIs clipping problem likely using this with SKB-540 7.1 speaker system? I have always thought that these were 6-ohm, 100 watt but tried looking these up online and now see some differing specs. Thank You. Older receivers have died from flaws.

- Answer Hello Skb540, The speaker rating for the SKB 540's are 8 ohms 130 watts. I would recommend checking the receiver to see what it is able output. Is the issue only happening on certain speakers or all speakers? Have you taking the speaker that its happening to and put it onto another terminal to see if you are experiencing the same issues? QuestionI have an older TX-SR605 7.1 Onkyo av receiver that needs replacement. Will this TX-SR494 model be able to connect to all my existing 7 + 1 speakers and HDMI cable box tv?

- Answer Hello Greg, The TXSR605 was a 90 watt channel receiver and the TXSR494 is at 80 watts per channel at 8ohms. It would also be recommended to check the speakers ratings as well before going with the TXSR494. Also, the TXSR494 does also support 7.1 channel hook up. Thank you Onkyo

QuestionDoes this receiver require separate speakers….or can I use it hooked up to a CD Player WITHOUT speakers? With my Bose system, it had the speakers in the unit itself!

- Answer Hello Derrol, The TXSR494 has the HDMI Standby Through setting. To set that up, you would have to within the Hardware section of the setup then under the HDMI. Within there you would go and enable HDMI Standby Through. Thank you Onkyo

QuestionCan I select which speakers are active? Typically when listening to music, you only want signal going to the front left/right speakers and the subwoofer. Other brands have made this difficult by the introduction of scenes. Thanks!

- Answer Hello Shel, Besides the Chromecast Google TV device, is there another source like a physical BluRay/DVD player that is hooked up through the receiver that you can try to play Dolby Digital or DTS? When playing back that source is the Center channel providing you sound? Thank you Onkyo

- Answer Hello Multizone, Having to many speakers on a one amplifier could potentially put the receiver into protection because of an overload. Try to put space out the speakers on the receiver so it wouldn’t be a to much of a load on one set of terminals. Thank you, Onkyo

- Answer Hello Renzio, Unfortunately, the TXSR494 doesn’t have a 3.5mm connection for a microphone to be connected. The only audio connections that the receiver supports is RCA (analog audio inputs), coaxial and optical digital inputs. It would be suggested to contact the Microphone manufacture to see what they would recommend for the connections to be connected to the receiver for the best quality performance. Thank you Onkyo
