Prior to its release serj tankian stated this album would "represent a whole new sound" and would be quite an adventurous musical experience. this is very true. Imperfect Harmonies sound would best be described as orchestral, jazzy, classical, and possibly electronic [meaning ample use of drum machines/synthesizers]. there seems to be very little electric guitar and the main instrument on this album is the violin. to some fans, the lack of guitar and the prominence of violins may be unappealing. if you're into an orchestral sound, this album will appeal to you very much. personally, i feel that this album is just kind of boring, especially compared to elect the dead. maybe i didnt approach it with the right mindset or something. being a long time fan of SOAD and serj's first solo album, i guess i was expecting something heavier [which is bad, i know, since serj's solo stuff is a totally separate entity from SOAD] i just feel that NONE of the tracks on the album would do well in a live setting. overall, do not get this album if you're expecting something like elect the dead. and i do realize that it was announced prior to its release that the album would have a totally different sound. imagine if the violin on this album was replaced with electric guitar... its very clear serj is leaning more towards an orchestral sound for future releases. something to keep in mind.
