The Jurassic Park Trilogy, particularly the original Jurassic Park movie, was on my top 5 most anticipated blu-ray releases. I did not hesitate to purchase the exclusive metal case collector's edition. The case is beautiful and really shows that the publisher cared about this trilogy a great deal. Unfortunately, they did not care enough to get the best quality or original film stock to remaster the first movie. Even though the first movie is most likely the reason for everyone to buy this, it is, unfortunately, given a half-hearted makeover. In bright, outdoor areas, the film looks phenomenal. It really looks like it is a high caliber blu-ray release with bright, vibrant colors and clear visuals. Once you get to the night or dark scenes, it gets muddy, over contrast-corrected and a lot of dust and noise. This is unacceptable for a masterpiece from Steven Spielberg when you have seen the amazing treatment given to the blu-ray release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind 30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition. Even more unbelievable, is that the quality of the transfer gets better as the quality of the movies get worse. The video quality of Jurassic Park III is fantastic. While this may be a newer movie, it's still not new enough to look THAT much better. Same with Jurassic Park II. It's not that much newer than the first movie. This is a huge oversight. With gripes about the first movie's transfer quality in dark scenes aside, this set is wonderful. The audio quality is great across all three movies and the second and third movies look amazing. Hearing the T-Rex roar for the first time in 7.1 HD surround is goosebump inducing. The CGI on the dinosaurs is still some of the best effects ever done. Even with the enhancements of the blu-ray that usually make intangible objects look obvious, it still looks like a T-Rex is truly attacking the kids in the Explorer. If you are only buying this set for the first film, you may want to wait for an uber remastered version of it rather than this set but if you can overlook the issues with dark scenes and care about the other two movies than this is a definite must buy.

This was purchased specifically because it offered the BlueRay discs along with the regular DVDs and also included digital copies. We travel a lot and like to have digital copies for our computer or iPad. We kept the BlueRay discs for ourselves along with the digital copies. We gave the regular DVDs to our grandson who lives in FL. Unfortunately the BlueRay disc for the last movie (Jurassic Park III) doesn't work properly. It's defective. And since we don't have the original case (sent to FL with the DVDs to our grandson), we can't return it. So we are stuck probably having to buy the last movie again separately. Other than that we are happy with the purchase and its pretty good value considering how many copies you get.

Unfortunately, the movies could look better. The transfers are just not as good as they could be by a long shot (specifically the first film). They are a big upgrade from the DVDs though. There are a lot of extras; though some were left out from previous releases. The packaging is pretty darn cool. I did not like the packaging of the normal release at all.
