I have been a photographer (mostly amateur but some semi-pro work) since the late 1960's, so I have had the opportunity to use rangefinder, twin lens reflex and SLR cameras for many years. For those of us who remember the days before built in flashes, this unit will bring only good things to your pictures. The 'new-gen' group might find the added weight a bit bothersome, but for those who need a flash that communicates with DSLR format cameras and need some distance, this unit is excellent. I bought it to take pictures of my grandsons at their basketball games, usually on a four year old Nikon D-60 paired with a Nikkor 55-200mm zoom lens. Being able to 'point and shoot' without adjusting f-stop for distance to image considerations is a wonderful thing. The flash and camera share data and the end product is consistently exposed photographs from a variety of distances; and the power of the unit allows me to freeze action in photos taken across the length of a basketball court. Additionally, for those inclined to more sedate subjects, the flash has several modes and capabilities for portrait/architectural photography as well. Mechanically, it allows bounce flash with a hinged body and built in diffuser plate/bounce card. Additional snap on filters are also available. Electronically, it allows multiple slave/master configurations for those really looking to go high end/professional. The unit uses dry cell batteries (spec calls for 4 AA alkaline) instead of built-in rechargeable cells; while some might find this an aggravation, I prefer it since I know I can always have power in my flash by simply throwing a pack of batteries in my gadget bag (and not have to sit around while a charger is regenerating the built in batteries). For the environmentally concerned out there, just use rechargeable batteries if you want to protect our landfills. While the rechargeable batteries don't last quite as long as the single use cells, I have had no problems using them as well. If you think you will use the unit quite a bit, the price is well worth the advantages it brings to your photographic efforts.

I bought my wife a Nikon D3100 for Christmas 2009, the following summer I got her 55-300 lens and also purchased this flash to go along with it. I was able to light up a little league field for our pictures last summer. Action stopping power. We later bought a Sigma 50-150mm with 2.8 aperture and with the flash we can do beautiful portraits with the bounce flash and diffuser that comes with it. I got 2 sets of rechargeable batteries so that we cycle and always have a set ready. With fresh batteries it fires every time in burst mode and keeps up. I do a lot of night photography and use this a lot for that. The pics I uploaded with the review are of a hand carved canoe in it's shed and a baseball field that the flash was able to light up the grass quite well.

Love the SB-910 Speedlight flash unit! It is a bit pricey but it is super reliable and offers consistent performance and compatibility with my D7100, which was a primary consideration when choosing a flash. I've had many after-market units in the past which functioned but offered nothing of note in the way of creativity or camera-specific options. Nikon quality is evident in every aspect of this unit and its functionality.

I purchased this flash to replace my SB-800, which was the flash to have 10+ years ago. I was sure the 910 was the best before I bought it and having used it for several jobs plus personal work, I now know it is. This flash is so smooth but yet so powerful. You can use it effortlessly off camera too. Yes, it is expensive but if you want the best- if you want a true work horse-you will gladly pay for it. No regrets !!

The replacement to the short-lived former flagship D900 is a terrific addition to any Nikon DSLR camera outfit. I've used the SB910 on both my D800 and D7100 with fantastic results. The greatest fun comes in using the S910 as a remote or master flash as part of the Nikon CLS (Creative Lighting System), wherein you can control multiple speedlights using the TTL input of one or several speedlights to create some unusual lighting effects. Specifically, I have used this in conjunction with the also highly capable SB700 as well as a number of smaller "close-up" flashes for both some dramatic portrait and macro photography. I suggesting investing in either some rechargeable batteries (AAs) or the Nikon rechargeable battery option (extra cost and as with everything else Nikon, likely to be absurdly priced). Note: While there is a filter kit available for the SB910 (as there is for the SB700), it does NOT include the necessary filter lens to fit over the speedlight, as this was apparently included with the SB900 but neglected when Nikon retooled and re-released that product as the SB910 with improved thermal cutout management. It does, however, include wolfram (tungsten)/incandescent and fluorescent lenses for appropriate white balance correction in those lighting environments. TTL works beautifully, as you'd expect, information exchange with an equipped Nikon camera is flawless, and menu navigation is functional if a bit clunky given the rudimentary input device (click wheel with center button). The flash is also equipped with a separate mount should you choose to place it in a position other than the hotshoe mount on your camera. The versatility and powerful yet easily accessible technology this speedlight offers make it a fantastic addition to the advanced enthusiast's arsenal, as I imagine it would for a professional photographer. Experimenting with lighting, especially with a flash as capable as this one, can be a great deal of fun and yield some exciting results.

This is the best speedlight. I bought other speedlights for less and I wish I went straight to this. Range is tremendous and pictures come clear even in dark room or outside at night.

I needed a flash, and was really considering the model below this one. Doing a lot of thinking, and knowing when I get the next camera, it would be the next step above the D5300 i have, I went selected this unit. I have to say it impressed me a lot with the TTL feature, the flash auto adjusts the intensity. Truly plug-and-play. Just be aware, this flash does make the camera heavy. And if you add a zoom lens, the extra dual battery pack for the camera and the battery pack for the flash (for a Fast flash recycle time) you have a very nice monster. Yes it is worth it for the price.

I shoot real estate properties. I needed a flash that would fill the room and give me range when I need it. Weeks of research kept telling me this is the flash and was simply a easy decision. No regrets! It eats AA's, but what flash doesn't? $14.95 and I have rechargeable duracells.
Love the lock feature. Communicates great with my D750 and assortment of Nikon glass. Very happy!
A:AnswerAnswer to 1st question, yes, SB800, SB700, SB900 and SB910 can fire each other wirelessly using iTTL creative light system.
Do not understand 2nd question, I assume you are taalking about R1 closeup light system, if yes, you can control above flashes using R1. Remember line of sight and other limiting factors in iTTL system.
A:AnswerBoth the SB-700 and the SB-910 are compatible with the Nikon Creative Wireless system and can be used on-camera or remotely. The SB-910 is a more powerful flash with advanced flash features, such as Auto Aperture flash and Non-TTL auto flash, that are not included in the SB-700. The SB-910 has a guide number of 34m/11.5ft compared to the SB-700’s 28m/92ft (at ISO100, 35mm Zoom Head position, FX format, standard illumination pattern). The SB-910 has a lens coverage of 17mm to 200mm, while the SB-700 has a lens coverage of 24mm to 120mm. The SB-700 is smaller and lighter than the SB-910 and features a faster recycle time of 2.5 seconds when NiMH or alkaline batteries are used. Both speedlights feature heads that can be rotated or angled, and both have the ability to manually adjust the output level. Care should always be taken to not fire any flash directly into the eyes of someone that is at close range, regardless of the power rating or output level of the flash. Detailed specifications for each flash, as well as testing criteria, can be found in the product manuals which can be downloaded from Nikon’s Download Center. Please contact Nikon USA Support for more information.
A:AnswerI did a lot of research, and was wondering, like you, how TTL works. After getting the flash and doing a lot of playing it is pretty nice feature, Honestly i was thinking it was like the old time flash units I used to have. TTL is Thru The Lens.
For the people who just want to take a picture and not use the flash on the camera because it will wash out the subject, cause red-eye and not the best for distance, this flash with the TTL technology works by adjusting the flash intensity. During my testing, the flash auto adjusts when I change the lens and when I change the angle of the flash head and if I add the filter. The flash knows the angle of the head and if the filter(s) are added. I asked my daughter to watch from the side, she was able to see the change in the flash intensity with me looking thru the view finder could not. I wanted to make sure my wife could use it and not have to know a thing about it. This works. I Hope this answer helps.
A:AnswerGo to Nikon USA site and select both flashes to compare features side by side. I have used both. SB910 have brighter LCD, dedicated menu button, hard plastic color filters and the BEST!!!! it does not heat as SB900. There is a big birth defect in SB910, you will have problem in connecting any other device to PC sync socket on flash. Other than this, best flash Nikon have produced yet.
