Posted by: kris2 from houston, tx on 04/06/2010the main reason why i bought the phone was for its bluetooth - PDA capability to store all your contacts without having to input them manually.
well...it doesn't work with the palm Pre or iphone!!! i tried going thru tech support and they couldn't resolve this issue, so i had to return the phone.
it's not worth the expense for all the other features that you probably can get in other competing products.

very,very nice phone

Posted by: bbalways from Cary, NC on 03/04/2010I've owned my new phone for almost a month. Overall, I am very happy with it, but there are some quirks I haven't figured out yet.
I do like the operation of the handset itself. Others complained about the plastic back, but I think it is sturdy and fine. I do find it nearly impossible to pry off the belt clip, so when it comes time to change a battery or if you want to resync with PC etc that may be a problem - DON'T put it on until after you have done your first sync or want to resync often. Wish the USB connection was on outside of handset, not under the cover for this reason (but this way it is well protected). The cover itself does come off easily with a coin as instructed.
The instructions are not clear about a number of things including setting up area code on the handset or the software. I ended up having to go through all my numbers and delete duplicated 1+ area codes and 1+ area codes for local numbers ( I have Outlook with the full 10 digit numbers).
It is very much like holding a cell phone, I think it is a little too small (thickness) in the hand (female with lg hands). Having the belt clip on helps give me a better grasp of the handset. I would prefer having two handsets for the house so I don't have to carry from room to room, but they are expensive because the answering machine is built into the phone not the base (a feature I do really like). Maybe later, I'll add a 2nd handset.
Some of my calls go on for two hours at a time so the long battery life btw charges is great (one reason I was comfortable having just one handset). The full duplex speaker phone is a great feature, especially for those long calls. Off speaker phone, I do notice a slight hissing on my end when I'm not speaking - between sentences or pauses (???). If you don't use the ECO feature, it has really great range throughout my 2400sqft home and even if I go outside.
I really like the look and feel of the handset including the buttons. It doesn't bother me that you it takes several clicks to get to a name in the directory. Having a separate quick key list is helpful and a very nice feature. I don't know how to undo a digit key assignment. I usually don't use that feature in phones as I can't remember who I assigned to what digit.
The display in idle is very nice, letting you know if missed calls, if bluetooth devise is synced, battery charge etc. I do have my handset set to be blank when not in use to conserve battery. I absolutely love that I can set silence mode during a specific time period while sleeping at night.
The redial feature is nice. It gives the name if they are in your directory. I don't use the calendar to speak on that feature. I get a bluetooth device icon on the handset, but it doesn't act like it is actually found so I can name it (???). I haven't figured out how to add pictures to a specific caller. The ones in Outlook did not transfer over when I synced.

Gigaset SL785 - Step Above Many other Cordless Pho

Posted by: JohnAJ5TT from Friendswood, TX on 01/17/2010Over time, I have gone through a few phones only to see the quality fade to a memory of the past. My last cordless phone keypad started to fail were it was difficult to press the buttons. In an attempt to find quality led me to Siemens and the Gigaset phones. I purchased the SL785 which is made in Germany.
- Here is a quick list of likes and dislikes.
• The phone pad number lettering will not wear off, appears laser cut and each key is backlit.
• Phone is clear, good audio and
• Small and light in size, do not expect to use your shoulder to comfortably hold the phone.
• Able to easily sync a Bluetooth headset for hands free operation
• Base is solid and the phone easily is placed into the cradle for charging however when picking up the phone you may need to place a finger on the base to lift the handset out of the base.
• Largest and clear color display in comparison to any phone I previously owned
• Ability to sync phone numbers to your contact list with the included software. Had a little trouble at first getting the numbers in the correct order along with the area codes. You can connect either a USB cable (provided) or Bluetooth if your computer is equipped with Bluetooth.
• Available application software update plus phone firmware updates available from the Gigaset web site.
• Ability to store up to 500 entries. While I doubt I will ever use 500 sure beats the 50 entries on my previous phone. Internal memory max 3GB but 2+GB available for use.
• The hands free speaker phone capability is good. Speaker on the back of the phone.
• One odd thing, the caller ID screen only shows the caller's number and not the name
• The ring tone is softer then my previous phones.
• You can upload your own ring tones and pictures. The pictures can be a background or assigned to a number. Keep in mind, small size pictures. To size pictures search "resize images online or Shrink Pictures"
• Odd that the phone could not detect an off hook condition from another phone in the house. Careful that you could interrupt an ongoing conversation. No information on handset that the line is in use by another phone.
Overall, I hope I bought a quality phone that will last for several years. It is definitely better than many phones on the market. I have had the phone for two months and satisfied to the point that I am now waiting for a second handset. Impossible to find in retail stores, on line order only. Wish Best Buy would stock them in stores.

Posted by: wrf517 from Chicago, IL on 01/12/2010This phone has great sound quality, is great looking and has useful bluetooth flexibility. However, the base needs two plug-ins which is a pain if you already have some plugged into the closest outlet
, the phone is expensive and the phone has a cheap plastic back cover which seems out of place.

Posted by: MAlam from Gilbert AZ on 08/12/2009hone looks cool and great Rep. Phone is not to bulky and looks nice in living room or in any room. The plastic battery cover. It would be nice if it had Sim card reader for contacts. little bit price but worth it.
