while this may not have been the best season ( in my opinion, season 4 was one of the best), it definately held its own. with the ending of kripke's 5 season storyarc and a change in 'showrunner', it was a solid foray into a new chapter for this show. the leads, jensen ackles and jared padalecki, did an amazing job at portraying their characters in new ways. jensen showed us a softer, more domestic side of dean, while maintaining just a hint of the seasoned hunter just beneath the surface. he took dean to new and sometimes intense emotional levels, while mixing in the much beloved dean snarkiness. jared showed us a sam without a soul. he also gave us a taste of the hell-tortured sam. in one episode alone, he showed 3 very different sides to the youngest winchester brother. he also brought back the sensitive sam that we're all familiar with. jim beaver treated us to a look into the fatherly seasoned hunter, bobby singer. he showed us that bobby is far more than just someone who the brothers turn to for help. we saw the intelligent seasoned hunter,as well as the caring good man that he is. misha collins took castiel to a very shady place this season. it gave the troubled wayward angel more flavor and intrigue. we also got to meet castiel's angelic ally, balthazar. this character was so much like the beloved (recently departed) archangel gabriel, that you sometimes questioned whether it was him in disguise. sebastian roche did an amazing job with this character. we also got to see two other recent fan favorites again, crowley and 'death'. as usual, mark sheppard was outstanding as the sassy king of hell. while julian richards once again gave a haunting yet humaorous performance as the horseman,'death'. the performances alone make this dvd well worth the cost of buying it.if for no other reason, the 'brotherly hug' alone make it well worth it : )

I enjoyed all the special features as well on the Supernatural dvd - just would liked to have had personal commentaries by the stars like they did in season 1. Loved the t shirt !
