When Curtis, CJ, Ella, and the kids pack their bags and head for Florida in order to visit some distant relatives, their sole mistake is leaving Calvin in charge of the house. Recognizing the potential for profit now that he's got the whole place to himself, Calvin wastes no time in contacting his homeboys Pookie and Peanut to set up a house party. Trouble arises, however, when Calvin is called away from the party in order to battle a blaze, leaving Pookie and Peanut to watch over the Payne household. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

CJ has accepted Curtis' generous offer to help his family get back on their feet, but just as the bags are being packed Janine shows up with news that she's been completely sober for forty-eight hours. Without first consulting Curtis, CJ impulsively uses the money meant to secure his family a new place to put Janine in rehab. Later, after Janine breaks out of rehab and disappears, Calvin attempts to help CJ prepare to break the news concerning the non-refundable loan to Curtis. Meanwhile, in an attempt to make an impression on a pretty girl he's interested in, Calvin claims that Curtis and Ella's house is actually his, and that the real owners are merely his employees. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

With Janine still missing and the household in chaos, Curtis' mounting frustration leads to an outburst that prompts an old friend to recommend he take an anger management course. As the classes get underway and the flamboyant instructor comes to the conclusion that he and Curtis will need some serious one-on-one time in order to truly resolve the issues at hand, news arrives that Janine has been found. As Janine's finances completely bottom out, Calvin attempts to remedy his own money woes by selling imitation purses. Later, Janine persuades CJ to lend her some money and promptly hits the streets in search of some crack. To this point in time, CJ has remained blissfully unaware of Janine's addiction. All of that changes, however, when Ella, Calvin, Curtis, and Claretha decide that it's time for the truth to come out. Understandably preoccupied with the fact that his house went up in flames, CJ receives yet another blow in the form of an unpaid electrical bill. Meanwhile, as Janine loses her patience with the kids and starts receiving odd phone calls from a man named Blue, Calvin gets word that arson may be to blame for the fire that claimed CJ's house. Determined to get to the bottom of the issue, CJ sets out to find the truth when the insurance company calls claiming he's months behind on his payments. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
Tyler Perry's House of Payne: I Can Cry if I Want To
It's Curtis' birthday, but after a blazing inferno interrupts the celebration it quickly becomes apparent that the Payne household is going to be quite a bit more crowded than usual over the next few weeks. Every year, when his birthday rolls around, Curtis makes an effort to "refresh" his look; this year the annual makeover involves bleaching his teeth, dying his hair, and attempting to squeeze back into his rookie uniform. Later, when Curtis dashes off to work, Ella and the rest of the family begin preparing for the big surprise birthday party. Despite the fact that Ella had given Janine the money to pick up a cake, Janine eventually shows up at the party making no mention of neither the cake or the cash, confounding everyone. Either way, Curtis isn't happy about getting older, and he, CJ, and Calvin are quickly called away to battle a four-alarm blaze. As fate would have it, the house that is burning belongs to CJ. Realizing that his old friend is now without home, Curtis immediately invites CJ and his family to stay with the Paynes for the time being - but not without listing a strict set of rules first. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Finding Janine in a crack house has taken its toll on CJ, and lately things both at home and at work have been especially tense. The problems in the Payne household are only compounded, however, when Curtis spies Malik in a tutu and starts to suspect that the boy is gay. Repeatedly assured by Ella and CJ that this is not the case, Curtis subsequently attempts to get his old friend back out and about by offering CJ a bit of his retirement fund as a down payment on a new place. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Already fed up with the endless onslaught of relatives constantly streaming through his front door, Curtis is distressed to hear that his son Malik is being harassed by a schoolyard bully. When Curtis arrives at a conference with the school principal to discuss the matter, he is taken aback to find out that the thuggish lunch money thief is actually a young girl named Nikki. Upon meeting Nikki's foster mother Madea, Curtis immediately begins to understand where the young girl's attitude problems originated. Later, when the principal suggests that Nikki and Curtis attempt to move beyond their problems by studying together, Curtis and Madea begrudgingly agree to go along with the plan. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

When Jazmine arrives home from school shaken after a particularly intense anti-drug presentation, CJ tries his best to be tiptoe around the facts regarding Janine's situation but eventually ends up spelling it out in relatively clear terms. Meanwhile, as the family gathers to pray for Janine's recovery, Curtis buys a new massage chair with the reward money he received for rescuing a poodle from a locked car. Due to the fact that everyone was involved with the rescue effort, the purchase doesn't sit well with Curtis' coworkers though. Despite his determination not to answer the call of jury duty, Curtis has a change of heart when he realizes that Claretha has also been summoned to perform her civic duty. As it happens, both Curtis and Claretha are both chosen to be on the same jury - with Clartha to serve as forewoman.
