This is a great laptop for the money. However, there are a few things you have to do to it out of the box to speed it up. First, go to "Control Panel", click "Uninstall a Program" and then uninstall the bloatware. I uninstalled every Acer program, McAfee antivirus, Wild tangent Games, Amazon, MS Office trial, and a couple of other things. Next, I went to "Start" and then "All Apps" and I went down the list and uninstalled a lot of the Microsoft apps that I didn't need, as well as Candy crush and so on. After that, I used a free program called "Ccleaner" to run through the registry and clean up any temporary files that weren't needed. After that, all you have to do is install a good security suite like Norton or Kaspersky, and do your updates. My computer is smoking fast now. I'll probably upgrade the memory to 8gb ($40) in the next few days, although not necessary. I have been working on PC's and laptops for 12 years now and I can honestly say that this laptop is a steal at $350. Sure, the build quality might not be the same as a high end Dell or HP, but the specs are great and if you take care of it and don't throw it around, you will be fine. Don't forget to defrag!

Great affordable laptop
Posted by: mozes from: on
Bought it for 349$ (before taxes) at BestBuy. A computer with these features should cost at least 30% more. Couldn't find any other model from any manufacturer with these feature for even close price, so bought 3 (for wife and daughter too) right away.
You should keep in mind that the 4GB RAM that comes with it will most probably be insufficient for your needs (unless you're using really really few apps at a time). So you should definitely consider an addition of 8GB (or 2X8GB RAM replacing the 4GB, in my case) to make sure you forget about memory issues. It'll still be great deal!
*** NOTE! ***
1.) BEFORE adding/replacing the RAM make sure with your dealer that your warranty will not be voided. (It would probably won't, because I checked, but just to make sure)
2.) Make sure the new RAM is DDR4 and with the correct frequency

Pretty good budget laptop.

It does everything the specs say, and it's an OK budget laptop. The screen is somewhat disappointing, with low viewing angles. The sound quality from the internal speakers is very poor, but from headphones is good. One thing that irritates, and it may be true of most newer budget laptops, is that there is no LED blinking anywhere to show hard disk activity. I know it costs a tiny bit of money to include that, but I wish the engineers could find a way to make either the operating or charging LED do double duty and blink or flicker with HDD activity. As it is, the machine can be very busy doing something (like a big windows update) and there are few clues because the HDD is so very quiet.

Cheap but effective
Posted by: Phil from: on
So I got this laptop for the sole purpose of writing scripts and testing applications. I was looking for a notebook with an i5 processor and at least 4G of ram so I could go back and install different Linux distros.
Took me a minute to get around all the bios security locking it to Windows (ongoing pet peeve of mine with the new UEFI BIOS but that's for a different time)
It's a little bulky for what's actually in it. Sounds a bit hollow when typing.
I grabbed it up as a deal of the day where it was around $200.
Not a bad laptop by any means. It works and at that price with a gen-6 i5?! Yeah I definitely couldn't fight that.
If you're a basic user looking for a cheap laptop that'll get you around the interwebs, this will do it. If you're looking for a cheap test machine as I was, it works wonderfully.

I wanted to get a laptop as a supplement to our desk-top computer so I wouldn't have to always go upstairs to check mail, etc.
I don't need the super-best, most current product out there; just something that's reliable. I am extremely pleased with my 2-yr old ACER desktop so I went with them for this purchase too...and there have been NO surprises.
It is fast, it is sleek, the keyboard has a very responsive 'feel' to it as does the mouse-pad.
Best Buy store matched their online price for me and I got this for a very good price. This model may be in the process of being replaced for a newer version so it would be good to hunt for this while they are still available but regardless, I would definitely recommend the ACER brand for reliability.

Great budget laptop

The laptop itself has great specs and it runs great, but some of the downside to it are 1) the Num Lock has to be pressed every time the computer turns on in order to use the Number Pad, and 2) the battery cannot be removed. Otherwise, it was definitely worth the price.

It is definitely a good one .

I got this laptop just looking at its specs . It seemed to be a good bet for the deal 370$ . It has good sound , display , customizable ddr4 memory . Also it has almost all connectors *on earth* you don't need to carry any cords to mix and match i/p's or o/p's . Has a good processor . I am using ubuntu on it so it has a pretty good speed with the default config . The only problem I have noticed till now is when I connect it with a bluetooth speaker the wifi doesn't work properly . I don't know if it is the problem with my speaker BT radio or with the one in the laptop . Except that it is a good one for the price .

A good basic laptop
Posted by: Tomas from: on
The trend is going away from laptops. I have an IPad, Kindle and a smartphone, but sometimes you really need a laptop. This laptop fits that need. It has a powerful enough processor and large enough screen to allow you to do most non power user tasks. Windows 10 runs fine with 4 Gb of memory, but would run better with 8 Gb. The keyboard takes a little time to get used to, but doesn't have feel that would be unfamiliar to Acer users. Three USB ports allow you to use a mouse if you don't like the track pad. The hard drive is more than adequate for most users. This laptop isn't exceptional in any area, but it is perfect for someone looking for a good basic laptop.

A quality i5 standard laptop for $300. Yes please. All day every day. Functions as expected and priced like a computer far less zippy. More please!

Good Utility Laptop
Posted by: Coverall from: on
I make this purchase based on price. It has satisfied my needs. Not a gamer or streamer so I didn't need or want the fastest tool in town. Simple word processing, spreadsheets, email and light internet surfing is handled with easy. More disk storage than the average user will ever use. My only complaint would be the placement of the power on/off switch. Poor location in my opinion. Acer placed it were every laptop I've owned has the delete key. For the price, you'll be satisfied .
