A: I originally purchased the geek squad certified. Everything looked good and all the packaging was there. However, I noticed odd hang-ups/hesitation when background programs spooled up or shut down. This madwill me nervous and, when I started to have some power off issues, I returned it for a full refund and purchased a new one. Although many open boxes are just items people tried and didn't like enough to keep, there are some that are problems waiting to be passed on. Luckily, the issues all happened when the geek squad agent trates it when I returned it. He thought it was a defective motherboard or ssd.
Q: Does this model has 1. Tobii eye? is it work properly? 2. 99Wh battery?
A: I have the same model & it is for Tobii, Tobii is an IR Eye-tracking presence detection system. It is primarily used for gaming and power saving settings. If you pull up your software list by hitting the Windows key, scroll down to Tobii & select Tobii eye tracking. It should then be in your hidden icons on the task bar. Left click the icon, Games/experience & settings should come up. ***CANNOT USE WITH MULTIPLE SCREENS***
A: I heard of those too, but IIRC it was the QHD/UHD screens, not the 1080P screens. I have not had any issues whatsoever with my 1080P screen. My temps are also good while playing Tomb Raider/MKXL/DOOM/Assetto Corsa on max settings for hours at a time, though the fans do kick out the heat. Never had a problem with my keyboard either. My build was 1/4/2017, so it is a newer model that may have had the bugs worked out, but I did update the firmware to 1.00.08. For the record my rig is a AW17R4-272 (SKU: 5623233) with Tobii.
Q: What's the battery life of this model? 68 Wh or 99 Wh?
A: I have the 99wh. Getting about 4 - 4.5 hours with mixed use. Photo/video editing, web surfing, Youtube, etc. Brightness is usually at 20% which has been plenty for me indoors. I do not play games unplugged.
Q: Can i change the color of the lights on the sides and the key board?
A: Yes u can in the alien head icon bottom right of ur taskbar
Q: Why is it much cheaper than getting from official website? Is it refurbished or somehow?
A: My best guess is, the one you are looking at on the website has the new kabylake i7 and the newer screen. This model has the skylake processor. It also could be marked down simply because they need to move the stock.
Q: In open box cases, best buy tells you the reason why the old owner returned the laptop?
A: Yes, Best Buy explained the reason why the old owner returned the laptop. In this case, a member of the customer's family purchased an amazing PC, with all the bells and whistles. It had much the same hardware, but the expansion capabilities won the day.
A: I've done a little research and I did purchase Alienware Vindicator backpack for the 17 inch model laptops. Everything I came across says that the new were ones don't fit because of the bigger strip on the back of the laptop of mine fits just tight. There's enough padding on the front and back of it making me fully confident in the way it's held in. My main concern was whether or not the zippers would rub on the corners of the laptop and so far I haven't had any issues with that. I highly recommend the bag because of its versatility as well as nice compartments. the center divider is actually on Zippers and can be removed from the bag as well as a small bag for your power brick
