Great with few drawbacks... Posted by: from: on The apple tv device is a great product like any other apple devices. This is my first apple tv, Not saying this because of the brand, I always test out any device of any brand myself before making any assumptions and judgements. It does everything as it states for streaming quality viewing, synchronizing with an ipad, macbook and iphone with an icloud/ apple account only. The remote control is cool, touch pad but very sensitive. It takes getting use to. Very small so if you get it make sure you dont loose it. The Only drawback is that amazon app is not available for apple tv, I find this odd. Even when i have my ipad in sync amazon app doesnt appear. And the device freezes at least once a day, I would have to restart the system every time it happens. I have no idea why this happens. None of these are not major drawbacks. Maybe the amazom app will be added to newer future models? These are Just what I personally experienced. Over all the setup is a breeze. Works fast. Quality is great.

Nice remote, but Posted by: from: on This is my second Apple TV. I upgraded just so I can have the App Store and get channels I was missing from the previous version (AMC, Syfy ECT). I would get it again just for that. My only problem is that I use air play a lot from my iPhone to the Apple TV. I kept the old one in my bedroom and that function works great, when I try it on the new Apple TV , not so much. It works maybe 20% of the time. That's right, almost useless for that function. Hope a software update soon will fix it.

Not terribly different from past ATV Posted by: from: on I purchased this when my previous Apple TV was on the fritz. As always, I was excited to open it and get it hooked up. Set up was simple and self-explanatory, especially if you've set up an Apple TV in the past. I kept it for a couple of days, downloaded some apps, played some games, used Siri a bunch. Ultimately, I ended up returning it. There's nothing wrong with this by any stretch. It just didn't feel like it was leaps and bounds beyond my past Apple TV. Searching with Siri was nice, but didn't feel as polished as I would like it too. I don't subscribe to cable, so many of the apps that require cable logins were of little use to me. I opted to replace my power supply on my past Apple TV with a new one from eBay, at a cost of four dollars. I was a little sad to have to return this, but it just didn't have enough value to justify the cost at the time.

Not quite ready for prime-time Posted by: from: on This is a review for the initial release of the Gen 4 Apple TV 32GB. The interface isn't as cluttered but there is a lot of missing functionality. Love the size of the new remote but the swipe touch surface is hit or miss. It seems pretty inconsistent. The screensavers are amazing but the video quality for playing movies and TV shows is worse than the Gen3. There are lot of stutters and pauses even with lots of bandwidth. Hulu's App(not made by Apple) is really buggy and the video quality is pretty bad. There are a lot of missing features (e.g. can't change name of device, bluetooth keyboards don't work on Gen4 now, parental controls don't consistantly work,, audio is hit or miss, DTS doesn't seem to always work, etc.). Overall the device seems to have a lot of horsepower but the software isn't quite ready yet. I would wait until they get some of these things fixed before buying one. Hopefully they will get a lot of the issues fixed before Christmas so it can be used as nice little presents for loved ones. Right now, my advice is to hold off.

Apple Posted by: from: on In the past I would've said definitely get an Apple TV box. However with most TVs now it's really not necessary unless you're going to purchase movies off of Apple's iTunes service. I happen to have a large collection of Apple movies because they have deals every week on a new selection of movies. If you're going to be using Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Then any other device or smart TV will get you there. You should note that AppleTV does not have Amazon on it simply because they compete against each other. For what this does it's a wonderful interface and if you are into using and having games available to you through the App Store and definitely get the Apple TV.

Great Upgrade Posted by: from: on I own the previous generation AppleTV, this one is a great upgrade. Pros: * Speed - much faster than the last one and seems quicker than Roku * App store - a lot more options for media and games. Before it was limited to whatever Apple provided. Cons: * The remote - its not horrible but it can be annoying to type with and is super sensitive. I have accidentally fast forwarded movies just by picking up the remote. This is easily remedied by using a universal remote or downloading the remote app on your iphone. * Missing some apps - This is more Amazon's fault by not including their app here. Would be nice to have all services in one device. Also, still no Spotify. Overall, great media streamer. If you only have Amazon Prime, look elsewhere, otherwise this is a top contender.

4.5 Stars Posted by: from: on Set up was a breeze. Basically plug and play when using an iOS device to set up. There aren't many apps as of yet, but enough to keep you busy for now. I love the new Siri remote. It's larger than our Apple TV 3 remote so it feels better in your hand. The trackpad has a little learning curve and Siri works great. So easy to search for shows as opposed to having to open each app to search. The picture looks great even when casting videos through services like Amazon Video. There's quite a few accessibility features. I've only used the zoom feature, which I love as I don't need my glasses to browse through movies/shows. My only minor gripes are there's no way to check how much storage you have available. It only lists the apps and how much space they're taking up, which is great. However, it would be nice to know how much storage you're using and have available. The remote app is not compatible as of yet. It would be great to have the keyboard for typing log in info. While some things are the same as the previous Apple TV I feel there's enough new features to upgrade.

Advances, but disappoints Posted by: from: Houston, TX on While I like the Apple TV with the app store and Siri, but having to manually type passwords over and over again with a poor interface is very disappointing. It simply makes using the device feel like something from 5 years ago. It set up with a breeze with the iPhone 6 with iOS 9, but the remote app should have been updated before the release of this product (or release a new app). Huge oversight and very disappointing. I wouldn't give it a one star since it advances in many areas, but not giving the user the ability to enter passwords with the remote app, the iPhone, or a keyboard is disappointing. They added a remote controller so they could of integrated this since its just an essential part of the experience. Siri is a nice enhancement, but is very limited. The universal search is still in its infancy, but another nice enhancement. The beautiful piece is that these deficiencies can be corrected with software updates. The app store is going to be a serious money maker for Apple. However, its interface is pretty bad with two categories. It will simply be hard to find new apps by smaller developers since its basically a scroll to view apps (like Netflix and iTunes use). Honestly, I should of waited to purchase this item. I am normally an earlier adopter, but this product feels like a 1.0 rather than a true innovation. Its a nice product, it just needs some attention on the software side.

another Apple success! Posted by: from: on We have been primarily a Roku family when it comes to streaming, trying different models and really liking them overall...that is until we came across this little gem! We LOVE it! There are still so many features of this work of art I have not yet toyed around with. If you have any Apple products, then this is pretty user-friendly; it responds exactly like an iPhone. We are now Apple TV fans in our house!

Potential to be awesome Posted by: from: on Bought this to replace an Apple TV 2 and a Roku 3. RIght now as is it feels like I am beta testing a product. There are a lot of stability and performance issues. Used it for a total of 4 hours last night. It crashed/rebooted on its own 8 times. Displayed NOT AVAILABLE about 1/2 the time when I tried to airplay to it in several different apps on my iphone 6s. Airplay with the Amazon Video app did not work at all. Would not use/see my iphone 6s to do the set up at the beginning. Lost connection to the remote several times (even while using it). Every game I played (except for Asphalt 8) stuttered. NO support for the Remote App. Scrolling is wonky at times- especially when using the keyboard. (Charged the remote for 2 hours before using it) That said - I like Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, Vevo, etc. I like the search function and hope it expands to everything on the ATV4. Asphalt 8 played very well and looks great. Being able to FFW and RW with a swipe is great as is just saying "Go back 1 minute" or "What did he say?" There is a lot of potential here. Hopefully an OS update fixes the stability and performance issues. 9.1 just went into Beta so we shall see.
